  • I still can't belive that some a***** nominated Kubrick for the worst director for the razzie award of 1981.

  • i remember spotting the helicopter the first time i saw the movie

  • ha ha of course the tricycle has three wheels........ or it wouldn't be a tricycle, right?????........

  • and even the tricycle has 3 wheels...wooow you lost me there

  • Not bad, but there is one basic and critical mistake. You focus too much on things like these tiny details, mistakes, looking at moives again and again analysing these things more than loking at what the really important in the movie is. And that number thing at the end of your review? Common... A joke? OK my turn - the sum of letter amount of director full name is '14'. So it is 13+1, and 13 is the number meaning bad luck in some cultures. Come on man.. Get a life.

  • movie mistake at 4:37

    your mouth doesn't move!!!

  • First, there are no life for sale on ebay.

I gotta say, I like this vid man. You are funny, and the mistakes are interesting.

  • awesome vid !!

  • this is the stupidest thing i have ever seen

  • I can't even understand what that asshole is saying!

  • that random stuff was BRILLIANT O.O

  • your review isn't bad, but don't be too picky. nobody cares about tiny little details and all that

  • Wow, even the tricycle has 3 wheels? Maybe that's why it's called a "tri" cycle in the first place. I heard bicycles sometimes have 2 wheels too.

  • Jack is just so badass, he broke the other side by looking at it. >:|

  • REDRUM worked in my mirror, so yours is a dull one...too.

Try writing REDRUM. Use specular reflections for Rs, E, and D. U and M remain unchanged due to their symmetry. Or simply follow the character typos as seen on the movie in the wall. And use a better mirror.

  • All Work and no Play makes mx50virus a dull boy!

  • "all work and no play makes the typewriter go blue" Classic!!!

  • To be fair, Kubrick was a renowned perfectionist. A lot of these "mistakes" such as the blue typewriter, are indeed intentional, sometimes in order to give you a disoriented feeling. The Helicopter could have to do with the aspect ratio, in the sense that it wouldn't have been seen in it's earlier format. That, or it could be there as a subliminal reminder that you are watching a movie, which is a technique that many filmmakers, as well as playwriters use to throw you off.

  • woah how did you spot that at the end, your very clever :)

  • When I first saw redrum i thought it said rectum

  • the shining leaves many unawnsered questions

  • @rowanewiets any movie of Kubrick leaves tenths of unaswered or unawnswerable questions!

  • You amuse me. I like the jokes

  • Ive been thinking how the "mistakes" in this movie aren't really mistakes, they are more like metaphors (as other people said before). Just like you said that about Tony eating the sandwich lol its true. Seriously, Kubrick paid so much attention to this movie, its impeccable, there are no mistakes.

  • What about the helicopter in the opening scene?

  • Some say that was also on purpose. They had ONE year to edit this movie... i think they saw that helicopter.

  • Very funny/clever. Good job.

  • "All work and no play,... Make typewriter blue..."

    best statement ever :-)

  • i dead loved this :)

  • this was a great movie thx alot

  • All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

  • I give you 5 stars just for reviewing this movie..

  • "She has very fast hands. That's...kinda good."

  • The helicopter is not technically a mistake because it would not be seen if the movie were presented properly. This copy of the film you are using exposes the entire frame as it appeared on the negative, but it was meant to be cropped on top and bottom. Note how much dead space is over the characters' heads in all the other clips. Look at a widescreen version of the film and you won't see the helicopter.

  • they had widescreen and other dvd options in the 70's??!! wow! hahaha jk

  • You have something with the Numberology though. Kubrick had something about the number 12. In 2001, Bowman and Poole watch a programme on BBC 12. Kubrick was well read in Semiotics and steganography. There's some symbolic code going on. Kubrick planted it there to be solved as it means something deeper.

  • You are missing the hidden narritives. It has been suggested that the film flips in and out of reality(Mum, Danny and a murderous Father), Danny's visions((basically they replay the abuse Jack dishes out to Danny) and the book that Jack is actually writing.(Jack being a hack writer and 'using' his growing madness to inspire him). There are many, many hidden layers in this film, Kubrick was a master at hiding hidden narratives and suggested their existence by use of symbols and symbolism.

  • Watched this on Blu Ray recently, it was pretty amazing. I must have the 2001 and Clockwork Orange Blu Rays! Kubrick's stuff is so aesthetic.

Your bit on the numerology in the movie is fascinating, actually!

  • The sandwich thing is not a mistake. During the last bite it's obvious the sandwich breaks in half. But the other stuff, VERY VERY GOOD SIR

  • But in the book Dick Hallorann Lives and i the movie i dies

  • I hate this movie... bot because it's bad but because it's terrifying!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thats the whole point its a horror movie and a fucking awesome one at that

  • So how is this a review?

  • great video (:

  • some1 gonna jump from the helicopter to the...

    lol

  • Wasn't that WOW/MOM idea in Dare Devil.

Although that movie was bad so i guess you can get away with it =]

  • this guys face.. lol

when i started to watch i was like hey is the the pedro i'm supposed to vote for?

    vote for pedrooo!!

  • damn the thing the kid does with his finger is fucking annoying. while i'm on the subject of ranting this movie was shit. read the book way better

  • im 13 and im dieing to watch it, ive watched it up to when hes playing with his toy cars, my brother says it will haunt me if i watch it all, what actually else happens in it which haunts you?

  • nothing really. I think he's just messing with you.

  • fuck what ur brother says lol watch the movie, you wont be haunted i mean yeah its creepy but its a great film despite the mistakes that are shown in this video lol so yeah just watch it (Y)

  • No offense, but the sandwich definitely wasn't a mistake. Do some research on Kubrick, I'm sure someone has a perfectly logical explanation as to what the sandwich change symbolizes

  • You are right.

  • How come no one gives any credit to Stephen King for writing the thing? Shit, it's an amazing book.

  • The only think I don't like about the movie is that it doesn't focus very much on "the shining." If you read the book, or watch the mini-series (which is closer to the book), it goes a lot more in depth. Also, jack is supposed to have a giant croquet mallet, which he bangs on the walls as he is searching for Danny, not an axe.

  • yea and the black guy doesn't die in the book so wtf

  • I completely agree.

  • the book definatly was 100 precent better than the movie. id say i am a king fan, ive read lots of his stuff, but the book was fucking weird, like what the fuck was he smoking when he wrote that thing? a fire extinguisher turning in to a snake, like come on what the fuck. it was an excellent book, dont get me wrong just fucked up, but in a good way.

  • Agreed, his fucked up imagination makes it awesome.

  • The movie was WAY too different from the book

  • because the film is a separate work. the novel is merely a starting point for Kubrick to tell his own story. A well known book being adapted would ensure he'd get finance to make the movie and it's what would get bums on seats in a theater. It's Kubrick playing with the system in order to make a movie full or sub conscious symbolism and meaning.

  • I agree. Kubrick just used the book as a basis. It was a Kubrick movie simply based on the King book.

Stephen King took issue with Kubrick because he said the movie wasn't how he envisioned it when he wrote the book. But I don't think Kubrick was trying to make it purely based on King's vision. King then made his own version of the movie and it was crappy.

  • Of course it was, Kubrick didn't make it. Kubrick was quetly subversive. He did want to comment on America and those that rule it. He wouldn't of been able to do this if he came straight out and said it. so he hid his feelings in hidden narratives. That's all well and good, but he wouldn't make much money if his films were straight up.political comments. Instead, he tricked both film studios and film audiences. That's why he picked famous books or themes, to get money from the studios...

  • ....and audience bums on seat. The studio thought they were funding a film of the famous King book, but instead they got a film that deals with the murder of the Native Americans and with child abuse. He was very clever like that. I do remember thinking when I saw the Shining first, 'that's a lot of trouble to go to make just a horror film'. I had a feeling there was something more. That was the intention. It made you want to look at them again and again to find out what was really going on.

  • You think Kubrick looked that deep in to it? Native Americans were mentioned in the King book (I think the hotel was built on a burial ground, or was the site of a slaughter or something)... I don't know, I do believe Kubrick used a lot of symbolism, but I don't think his purpose was to make political statements in the guise of a movie, like you are suggesting.

  • There is a lot more to Kubrick than pretty pictures. Check them both and open your mind to the real genius of the man. Enjoy.

  • A part of my comments were not posted. He certainly did have an agenda other than film making, of course he did. He was profundly intelligent. check out two links and you will learn more. The first, google a site called The Kubrick Corner for several essays on his movies and his motives. Also, search for reviews by Rob Ager here on Youtube. It will open your mind to what Kubrick was really at.

  • @DiverseLA I would have to disagree. Look at some of his other movies and you'll see a very, very clear political message. Dr. Strangelove is about a secret cabal that kick starts WW3. Clockwork Orange has The State using a delinquent boy to show off their brain washing techniques. Spartacus is about a slave revolt. They are all political, they all feature corrupt figures of power.

  • i didnt reply and im still alive

  • 1:33 I guess danny was pretty fucking hungry.

  • one more thing, the guy on the radio has U S on his arm. u is the 21st letter of the alphabet, s is the 19th... 1921.

  • Actually, U.S. is an acronym for United States (of America).

  • nice, i also noticed above the 21 pictures there are two candles and one shadow: 21!!

  • Modern movies just expect a fake model type you'll never see in the real world!

  • awsom...i woulda nvr noticed any of this XD

  • Awesome! I noticed to door spontaneously breaking in one of my prior viewings of the movie (my favorite movie ever), but man, you got a lot of stuff. Love the blue typewriter. Now go check out how quickly Wendy's cigarette burns when she's talking to the shrink about Danny!

  • First of all I LOVE THE SHINING. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Second of all...You are awesome my friend.

  • There are colours changing all the way through the film. I think it has something to do with the Shining (The "Ability" not the film)

  • I LOVE this film. Heeeeeeeere's Johnny!

  • btw stop at 3:43 there u see the left part of the door is broken which it isn't at the beginning.

  • I noticed it the first time I watched the movie... I was like "what". I don't know, maybe the fellatio-bear did it.

  • great shit :D

  • ok...the rest...

the hand is where you shoot a scene, then again from another anlgle, a very respectible adn understandble mistake. if you have worked on a set then you would know this. =]

the door, well thats bad. =[

the sandwich is where you shoot the scene over and over from diffrent angles then put it together. thats kind of to do with bad editing. =S

the helicopter could have been in the sky, you know those thing s arnt exactly un-common. =]

    xx

  • WHAHAHA XD the ending was so EPIC XD

  • Keep on making reviews, this was really funny

  • The mistakes are subliminal.

    - The helicopter is there to make it obvious to the audience that they are being followed by something.

    - The sandwich means that there is someone else eating the sandwich besides Danny. (eg. Tony)

    - The hand trick. To show that they are mirror images?

As far as I know, Stanley Kubrick was a perfectionist who would not change the colour of the typewriter accidentally. There is a purpose.

  • 'Subliminal' means that something appears beyong the threshold of conscience, or that something makes an impact on you even if you cannot sense it consciously.

Nothing that you can detect by looking at iot in a movie can be subliminal by definition. These 'mistakes' are continuity and editing blunders most of the time.

  • no, they were not subliminal. stop reading so much into it.

i think there just mistakes, of corse i may be wrong.

wow! a change or typewriter! oh no wait, its called LIGHT. yes thats right. LIGHT. when the light changes the typewriter LOOKS as though its changer colour but its actually just a trick of the light.

look at my post for the rest. =]

    they wouldnt all fit. =]

    x

  • Yes, yes, yes. How right you are!!!! Kubrick always hinted at what he was at in a subtle manner. The movie has a hidden narritve, ie there is no haunting. Jack is an abusive father. He abuses Danny. The visions(the old woman in the room with Jack for eg) are Danny re living abusive episodes with Jack. Jack in that scene represents Danny and the old lady is Jack. Basically, it's Danny reliving the episode with jack in the Bedroom.

  • the last part when u said complicated things was the best and i checked 4 lives on ebay and i could not find any lol :)

    mom=wow

  • kubrick is the greatest

  • He sucks

  • This movie is so great that those slip ups doesn't ruin it. That kids eats fast! By the way she was cast it because her looks make it easier to understand how she downfalls into full horror.

  • damn I love this movie i own this movie one of my fav scary movies 5 stars man thanks :)

  • The mistake of the hellacopter wasn't on purpose, ok. But I think the one of the sandwich, and the one of the hand of Wendy on Jack's leg, were made on purpose, like in Full metal jacket, when Hartman gives a blow to Joker with his right hand, and in the next shot the hand is the left.

  • well done :D

  • I haven't seen the film, can anyone tell me what it's about?

  • a family that stays away from home and something supernatural makes the guy crazy

  • No, actually. It's left ambiguous whether he just goes nuts from boredom and anxiety or whether it's really a ghost.

  • or alcohol

  • Just see the movie. It's worth 2 hours of your life and then you'll watch it 12 more times. Which equals 24 ...

  • "WOW" XD I loved that. Keep up the good work.

  • tvennyifour :)

I havent seen the movie, but why didn't the silly bitch cut his face with the knife when he pushed it in..., or maybe they have to fill in the remaining 30 minutes with some more excitements :)

  • ive seen this movie a lot and i wanna know if this is a true or fuctional story, i know that the overlook hotel is real but i just wanna know

  • i love now wendy just spaz's the fuck out when the axe goes all the way through the door at 2:42

  • Awesome review. Keep it up!

  • Also, 42 is 21 * 2, and 24 is 12 * 2

  • "all work no play make the typewrite go blue"

love you accent man i wish i had it

  • Hilarious review for a hilarious movie.

  • That was great. You're hilarious

  • AA thers a mistake in your video to when you flip mom over and it sais wow you dont say wow you just lik your lips

  • Some of the continuity errors are there because Kubrick wanted some scenes to be disorienting and confusing to the audience. another example arethe wine bottles in a scene in 'A Clockwork Orange'. Stanley wanted this scene to seem unnatural to the audience, so he purposefully put many continuity errors in it, such as the wine bottles mysteriously becoming full, then mpty, then full again.

  • You made me laugh ^^'

  • That was really good, awesome, it made me keep watching.

  • That was really good, awesome, it made me keep watching.

  • The part where both the panels on the door were broken can be easily explained away by the time we see from Halloran's pov in the snowcat on the way to the hotel. During that time, Jack could've easily chopped out the other panel.

  • In the last scene you talk about

    i think that that's not a mistake...

Kubrick made that to give a scarious sensation to the people who watch... is ideia is that probably it happened something...

    Hopping an answer

sorry the bad english, i'm portuguese

  • lmao even the tricycle has 3 wheels.

  • excellent job on this. you pay wayyyy too much attention to numbers though, haha. i like the accent, don't lose it, it made the video more fun to watch

  • LOL.

    XD

  • wow dude you are a genius

  • I laughed at the end with all the numbers lmaoo.

    so dumb haha

  • Actually none of those are mistakes...kubrick changed the movie from the novel on purpose.

  • I've found a Movie mistake in your movie, u said "before we say good night"

Look outside your window. oh, wait! is it not dark yet? :O

  • lulz, you remind me of my freind, hes the only one who sees this shit

  • wow the ending of that video was awkward

how you figure all that out

    how long it take

what led u to trying to figure that out

    SO MANY QUESTIONS

  • These little "mistakes" were insignificant and didn't take away from the gist of the movie.

Cute video, though. Like the accent.

  • Who really cares?

  • Damn I dont know how Kubrick could have missed different colored typewriters.

  • Great info!

  • how did you figure all of that out???

  • That was good =] But I think the last bit with all the numbers was a bit...I dunno. kind of like the number 23, people deliberately look for the number, instead of just coincidence. I think that may have just been coincidence.

  • very interesting thank you.

  • Thanx a lot you have a good eye for movies .

  • your so awesome mx50virus :)

  • i think that 30 seconds to mars's song is based on this movie

  • Well yeah, just like all movies, this one has mistakes too. Humans aren't perfect, simple as that. But, interesting. Looks like big directors makes mistakes too. Hehe. But, ofcourse. Anyway this movie is kul !

  • cool

  • to

    norfolkenchants1

    VVVVV

  • This guy is clearly a numpty, isn't it possible that Kubrick, arguably the greatest film maker ever, intended these "movie mistakes" to be included.

  • the first part could of cut out the copter scene and had enough room fer the scene

  • ur a fucking arse hole norfolkenchants1 we all bleed the same colour blood... u racise fuck . one day ur get wats comeing to u i promise u

  • Shutup mother fucker u dam racist invaders scumbag of europe

  • really ?

you dont like his video so you geuss where hes from (hes german) ad then you become a racist and pakistan isnt involved with bin laden in any way and then you call him a fag

you should stop acting like youve got a dick up your ass and get your facts straight , try to think of a better burn and go give handjobs to sailors

  • Interesting, I heard Kubrick was a control freak who supervised the whole process of making a movie very thoroughly.

  • Actually, I'm pretty sure the change in typewriter is deliberate. Things change color, move or disappear throughout the movie, either because the hotel is fucking with them or they unconsciously doing it themselves because not everyone who can shine is aware of their ability.

  • Here's Johnny Scene: Explanation is he axed it down when we saw the driving scene.

  • clearly you have to much time on your hand you need to get out more.

  • your voice is scarier than this movie

  • "That's... Kinda good" LMAO

  • Jose, just curious what is your native Language? You speak good English, but I hear an Italian accent, a Spanish accent, Asian, and Portuguese. You got to reply on this, what do you speak? Also are you gay, I'd like a date with you.. Bob

  • I thought someone was going to jump from the helicopter to the Volkswagon, but it didn't happen...made me laugh.

  • IMO, you're paying too much attention. These things don't matter, as you'd have to watch the movie like ten times to notice. Even then, they're insignificant.

5:35-6:33 that's just like the movie The Number 23. If anything, that proves that you SHOULDN'T pay that much attention. Philosophy and numerology have been known to drive people insane.

  • Nice. That's hilarious.

  • no offense but i agree with carllarsson123

    lolxD

  • Wow

  • hahahahahahhaa

i love the stuff with all the numbers xdddddd

  • its so freakin freakin great

  • you have a great life. im not being sarcastic. good video

  • You've got good eyes my friend.

also, your english isn't the best around, but your sense of humor definetly comes through.

  • funny i lold...alot

  • haha poor guy, get a life

  • i REALY luv wachin da vid mistakz!ur azum n u mus hav a lota time on hand cuz how u conectd al da #s in da end wuz koo...bt kina creepy

  • That made no sense at all fool.

This is for mere entertainment and by your watching this somehow you have obtained the thought that this is all he does? Bye bye.

  • Retard, its intressting to see mistakes that have been done in movies, he seems to be good at finding mistakes so fuck of ur fool.

  • i really enjoyed this

    good work! :)
