@thebradybunchlover Different stations (and newspapers!) came quite often, word got around about it (and similar houses), and every year or so they'd all do a bit on "vintage" and come calling. I have others like this, but they're all on VHS.........
@RobNLynchburgVA Oh, that was then, you should see it now - something of the opposite (however there IS still fake food in all available kitchen spaces, yes...)
Oh gawd...where's the barf bag? Why do gay guys always overdo it? Let's hope you created this harlem nightmare just for the news show and that you don't live in this atrocity everyday.
@ElCriticon82 YOU'RE BACK! I remember you from a lonnnng time ago! So nice to hear from you - as I recall, you were going to show ME what a *REAL* 1950's house looked like! I'm still waiting, Mr. Critical-Con! : D
@themamagoatshow ...I asked some friends once WHY they couldn't just MAKE a 1950's car again, JUST ONE model, for those who would love it, like, the popular classic Cadillac or the Chevrolet Bel Air, and the answer was logical: TOO much money would be involved in the CHROME alone, let alone all the excessive use of metal, etc. Still. I WOULD love it if all the ladies wore hats and gloves and bouffants again. It would not be a Perfect World, BUT IT COULD LOOK LIKE ONE! : )
man it pisses me off when people have to hate on other people's ways. just because they are jaded by the shitty era we live in now doesn't make this house inappropriate or insane or anything. I personally am in love with the 50's-60's, maybe not as much as this dude but still there's something about the era that is so comforting to me. I wish i lived back then man. sweet house.
@shinnygloomyglass Thank you! It's deliberately extreme, obviously, hence the comments about how it is absurdly NOT a "realistic" 1950's, too much, looks like a retro store, etc., but that is largely why it is "an INSANE 1950's house," so I am glad you could appreciate it.
@Abiroll And there's even more in my mom's basement...I am shocked what it goes for on Ebay now, and I really SHOULD, but I am too lazy to mes with that. I mean, just the IDEA of mailing a CHAIR? : O
@V8Deuce Ah, thank you! I will look it up! Mom also recently relocated the original GE Frost Free with DeLuxe Swing Out Shelves she and my dad had when they were married in '57. It's turquoise inside (of course) and has lots of cool script on it - all she needs do is plug it in, and if it works, then I'll have TWO (which is frightening). But then I'd have a place to put the REAL food I guess.
What no vintage fridge? How come? Thats the one vintage item that one can find with hardly any effort . This house looks like a thrift/vintage/antique store where way too much stuff is thrown everywhere. Too much stuff makes it look like the 50's exploded and there's no rhyme or reason to anything. Makes you look like an eccentric.
@V8Deuce Well, yeah, that's KIND of what I am, um...I did get a new/old fridge since this was taped, mom donated her 1955 Crosley Shelvador (it has to be defrosted though - ick).
Great job...like stepping back in time...I love the care and attention to every detail, including the contents of the fridge, etc. Your home is an art piece, a very special place indeed.
@jenzeppelin Well, thank you kindly! I STILL have that stuff in the fridge (But I do get lazy about ALWAYS transferring the milk into the glass bottles anymore...)
i love tis great job! i have also fifties furniture i like the mucis from the fifties and the colors are amazing from that time warm ! and feels so good!
@louiscaponecchia Yep. They make "Fonzie" look fun, but in real life I guess those guys in black leather jackets were bad news and they would cut you. : )
Plus they hadn't invented Ding Dongs snack cakes yet and there were no DVDs. I *DO* wish ladies still whirled around in high heels and pearls though.
This is also a dream I have.. I want a 50's & 60's themed house. EVERYONE thinks I am nuts =( I have already started the collecting we will see how far I get.
@melzaelf It's not nuts at all. Likely your house will be cooler than anyone else's, as you will have one-of-a-kind items (meaning it is rare to find duplicates anymore) and most of all, YOU will be comfortable in it! Go for it. : )
Paul, I swear, I'm speechless about this video! I'm so proud about the fact I know who you are! You're the greatest person I've ever met!! I'm so happy you once noticed my comment about your work!! I was shocked by the amount of work you've done. But seriously, you're great!! You're greater than almost all the people in the world! :)
@LizaChernikova Well, now *I* am for once speechless! THANK you Liza! My my my....! This makes me want to go clean the house (it doesn't look so much like this now, but with some work...) : D
Oh, thank you! You can see me WEARING them in my adventures as a 1950's housewife in - (oh, maybe I shouldn't be bragging about wearing 50's dresses - oh what the heck) a series of videos on my channel, an 8-part saga titled "A 1950's Housewife" (I think - it's been awhile, I did it on VHS in the 90's). But you WILL see those very hats and bags, most of which I still have, I love collecting it...
exactly, the modern era has no distinguished look or style. we don't really have a culture anymore either. the 50s 60s was cool cars, space age furniture, hamburgers, cigarettes, chrome appliances ...ect.
finally, someone who has the same obsession as me. i cant stand to walk into places decorated with that ugly ass tuscan old world look. i love the 50s and my retro appliances.
Thank you! Yes, in twenty, thirty, forty years, I don't know HOW they will distinguish the 90's or later as far as a design stand point - whereas the 50's, 60's, and even (gulp) the 70's are VERY distinctive to their decades.
wow amazing this really helps because i'm redoing my bedroom into an authentic 1950's living room, your home is amazing, i'm in love with it! great job! i saw your home on HGTV to!
Oh yes! The Home & Garden thing- so you got to see the Giant Roaches in the kitchen (they were leery about showing that, but showed a GLIMPSE!) Glad you liked it, thanks for the compliment!
Wow, your house is amazing! I don't understand why someone is writing so many negative comments. I think you are very creative and I would do something like that too. I also loved the Poseidon adventure dining room, that was beautiful. That woman seemed very abnoxius (sp? sorry for my bad english xD), saying she wouldn't take a bath there...what was in it anyway?
Thank you much!! Well, as far as negativity, look at their username: El- CRITIC -on - sounds like they "critique" all! But I don't mind, it is an insane house. and as I said, you should see it NOW. As far as the news lady saying she wouldn't take a bath, maybe she is afraid the water would be fake like everything else? I have no idea! The bathroom was fine; but the other one DID have fake body parts stored in the shower stall and was decorated like the Bates Motel bathroom!
Thank you again! I am glad you approve - and as I MAKE some of that prop food (I work in theater) a lot of folks ask if it makes me hungry! Alas, no...styrofoam and acrylic paint just doesn't do it!!
And indeed, I titled this "INSANE Fiftie's House," because it IS extreme. Lordy you should see it NOW! The news chose to call it "out of a magazine," and, of course, it is not, not at all, as a real home of the period was either A.) traditional, as seen in "Leave it to Beaver" or "Patty Duke;" or B.) minimalist, Frank Lloyd Wright-ish, with a FEW random "Jetsons" furnishings, which mine once WAS several years before they filmed this, choosing to get shots of crazy heaps of 70's era props, etc.
Well, anyway...to each his own. If you did that where I live in So. Cal. you would have code enforcement and the fire department breathing down your back. Having all that stuff in there, as you do, is not safe and is a fire hazard.
I guess I'm more of a purist, you might say. If you like what you have, that's cool...you have to live with it. I like more of a "clean, organized" look that sticks with one period. All my furniture and accessories are no older than 1950 and no newer than 1959.
And what of your soups? Are they '50 through '59? Manischewitz (or BMG as it was also known) holds up great; Crosse & Blackwell Creme of Shrimp, not so well - it leaked - Lobster Bisque, all the condensed ones, etc., are fine.
Um...no. First, I'm not a soup eater and second, my food you can eat. I'm a purist, but not that anal of one. I will get a video up soon and show you a real 50's house. Stay tuned and don't touch that dial!
The CUPBOARD interiors, I am proud to say, are impeccable. ONE SOUP CAN has a date on it of 1957, while a Cream of Shrimp can is from '61, but visually and aesthetically they are close enough they blend, and as far as the Pounce treats, well, awful as those were, I DID apologize for their being there.
Holy frijoles!!! Ok...no offense, but you have a major retro nightmare going on. Nothing blends and it looks like a 50's retro antique store...too busy and unrealistic. Show me a house in the 50's that was furnished like this. What's it going to be guy...the 50's 60's or 70's? Make your mind up. I give it a 1, because I'm nice.
it looks amazing!
