I am working on doing something very simular in my backyard. What part of the country do you live? I live in central FL and I will have to heat my pond for my oscars and bring my redfoots in for the winter. I will have argentine tegus out there year round. Id love more info about your setup hit me up.
wow...... no words to describe...it's like the EDEN! you' re great. only a question: in wich country do you live? I ask this because it's quite impossible (i belive) to take all this species of animals that r coming from all over the world in a backyard..and they looks happy...thanks (I' m sorry for my terrible english)
No I dont know of a forum like that. But, it sure is a great idea. You should start one! You can get some great ideas from the various tortoise groups on google and yahoo. Thank you for the compliment on my setup. There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting on my patio and watching them just do their thing. Good luck and have fun.
You certainly have a fantastic setup. I am quite envious. I liked when the two turtles crossed they stopped, checked one another out, and continued on there ways. All under the watchful eyes of Buddha. What do you feed the water dragon? and have you considered allowing any of your wards to breed? As if you have the extra time, right? I'm checking for more of your videos immediately!
The water dragons are in a diet transition right now. I used to feed them superworms, crickets, and greens. The adult got a mouse occasionally. Now they spend more time free roaming by the pond and are beginning to eat their natural food sources. I saw one eat a bee the other day :)
Oh yeah. I really like your Buddha statue and your tortoises are really, really cute. I have a dragon myself--only it's a Beardie instead of a Water. AND I AM SO JEALOUS OF THE FAT RED FANTAIL AND YOUR ORANDA. Golds are my favorite fish ever!!!!
Thank you! I LOVE the bearded dragons but they require a more desert environment for me to keep outside with my other lizards. I adore the fancy gold fish they are some of my favorite to watch. Thanks for your comments ~Ginger
YOU HAVE AN OSCAR IN WITH KOI???? That must be a big pond and those must be some BIIIG Koi. That's awesome. I used to work in a pet store specializing in fish. We tried the Oscar in with big Koi once. It did not work. Nope...were those little parrotfish I saw swim under him? What does he eat???? You must live somewhere very warm to keep him out there.
LOL.. I was waiting for someone to notice and ask about that. I actually have several types of chiclids in the pond. The two Oscars and a bunch of different kinds of peacocks. Living in Houston it IS very warm. But in the winter I still have to heat the pond with 8 400 wt heaters. The tropical fish stay in the shallow part with the heaters in the winter. I feed chiclid crisps, blood worms and some of the water dragon's insects to the tropical fish.
In this video there are mostly land tortoises. The few water turtles are red-eared sliders and one African side-necked (she is the grey one. II have 6 red-eared sliders in all. The two young boys who are just over a year old are the most active. They have lived in the pond sense they were the size of a half dollar coin. I hand feed them all some chicken every now and then to help tame them. ~ Ginger
My one sulcata is a juvenile about the size of dinner plate so although he loves to dig he hasnt really done any damage yet. I also have other areas on the side of my house, almost like a sandbox for him to dig in. I expect that the day will come when my animals will force my into getting a place with a bigger yard. Right now..it is all ok. ~ Ginger
That's neat,I've been wanting to build a pond too,but I need some help on the instructions, might use your help.I have a dwarf caiman but I want a backyard like yours,I have much space.
Oh cool! what a neat animal. I tell ya.. I wish now that I had gotten professional help building my pond. I did an ok job and it looks great but i constantly have leaks I have to deal with. Make sure you use an underliner whatever you do! Take care ~ Ginger
Chinese water dragons can be pink, blue, white or a combination under their chins. This adult male has lots of bright pink :) When he gets in his defensive all puffed up stance, he gets a triangle of skin below his chin that drops down and it is almost purple in color. Very pretty:) I'm glad you liked the video. Ginger
Thanks! This is my backyard in Houston, TX. My daughter and I built the pond. The dragon lives in an outdoor enclosure, but I let him out to play and watch him carefully. I'm glad you enjoyed it. ~ Ginger

First off this is awesome, secondly I was wondering if a sulcata tortoise and a water dragon will get along in the same enclosure?
