I thought such a bad video would be made by a kid who found the manual and thought it would be cool but with you're voice its like if we could actually see the pictures better and we could read the words you're looking at (without you having to zoom in) i could totally see this being on TV as an AD XD
wastelandtv2 - Hasbro does not own TSR anymore and has not for sometime now, a company in Ohio bought all the Rights, Copyrights, Trademarks, Marks and all names TSR a few years back. none of this info is not commonly known, but word is that the new owners of TSR are making a new D&Desque RPG due out within the next 2 years (and none of the material has anything to do with WOTC or its parent company Hasbro). Just a FYI
lmfao, I can't believe you don't know what D&D is but do know warhammer is... Well, D&D is basically a board game, with story elements. The core concept is, roll a 20sided die, add your modifiers, which depend on your character, and put it up against the same thing with a monster, such as you attacking a monster. It would be your 20sided roll, plus your strength(usually) and then compare it to the monster's defence, they made it especially simple in 4th Edition, which I like.
Hey everyone has the right to his or her own opinion. After saying that though I believe having the reviewer look at the book in the context of what the designers seem to be trying to accomplish with 4th Edition rather than looking at the book in the context of the 2nd Edition. As the reviewer himself said 2nd Edition was based around human mythology while 4th Edition, like 3rd Edition, is more centered around settings and myths created by designers, part of the official D&D team or otherwise...
...and by general fans of the game which, lets admit it, many of us rather enjoy, but hey D&D does have a lot of tradition behind it and we don't like losing stuff we enjoyed doing in our old games within our new games. Why the designers of D&D didn't just try to incorporate both of these things, everything found in human myth (given a new spin to create a more unique setting) and ideas for things designers thought might be fun for fans of the game I will never know.
Well looking over all the books, I think WOTC and Hasbro Toys (makers of Gi-Joe and current owners of both TSR and WOTC) wanted to make the game more unified with the current Magic The Gathering setting of fantasy to sell more units and make new players more comfortable with the world.
Well yeah they probably did attempt to incorporate a lot of "non-real world myth" to create an environment many could relate to (given all the fantasy novels and games that have came out in recent days/years) as well as a setting that would appeal to the market base (hey they are a gaming company and no sales means no more D&D) so there is going to some give and take between trying to keep the game towards its roots and adding things in to increase the game's fanbase...
...and lets be honest the RPG/table top game fanbase isn't the biggest fanbase around.
Still though 4th Edition is so different from other Editions of D&D that we can (or should) honestly question what the D&D designers had in mind when they created the new Edition and released it on the market.
Maybe the first series of books were just the mechanics portion of the game with the other books being there to add in our muched enjoyed fluff or maybe our D&D designers have losted their minds.
This monster manual is the worst I've ever seen... no good aligned monsters... many stupid creatures... poor desciptions... the good point about it is the fact that it gives you the racial characteristics of many races... In my opinion, they spoiled it all when they changed the alignement sistem and the cosmology... all the other changes have been for the better
Pretty terrible review compared to the first. Honestly couldn't tell what you were reviewing here and a pretty bad phony voice.
Also the monsters in 4th edition are worthless, the players have a harder time fighting PC races with classes in every scenario. I'd continue to rant here endlessly but I have to go choke on my own rage and bile.
the layout is a bit more efficient like a grid, or a card game but that just makes it easier for the DM.
the art reminds me of magic. but who cares about the art.
also I figured there would be a small creatures and vermin list in the back but they include enough common creatures to cover for the stats of others within the book.
This might've been a real review if it actually gave some reason WHY it feels like Magic: the Gathering. There's no counters, no power/toughness, no mana, nothing. I agree that the new MM is more streamlined than before, as the review says, but I don't see how that's a bad thing. Nor why it's like a card game.
well 10 plus years of magic playing, every 3 sets has it own story based worlds, i have seen alot of creature in the ccg and the new monster manual creature design is more magic the gathering in look and the way the creature now act like the flavor text on the cards.....
You're still not citing any actual reasons. You mention there's "moloids" in the MM. This is a complete lie, there's no such thing. You also say D&D was about mythology. This is another lie, the first critter books had stats for androids and martians and flail-smails. D&D has always been about *fun*.
I wish I could say "we'll agree to disagree", but that only works on opinion. You're just fabricating things wholecloth and passing it off as a review. You mention not a single fact about the MM.
I don't remember 1st, 2nd, or 3rd having any of the monsters like andriods or Martians but I did see Snails. But if you count the Mind Flyers and Golems as sci-fi space creatures then sure...The Androids and martians came it later version of the Monster Manuals not the first one.
You sound like you smoke pot.

Actually the guys pretty smart, it's just that the character he is playing is dumb. The video is a parody, sorry about the video not being clear.

WTF, the art has nothing to do with the monsters themselves or how the battles feel. The rules are nothing like Magic (I should know I play it).

I get that the art reminds you of magic...but you don't have to use this 'joke' fifteen times.
