hi there. nice video and positive comments. I can see your post was over 2 years ago, I've just actually bought the same model Freeview box GDB15HD (but I get the feeling it's been discontinued ?). HOWEVER on trying to set this up I got the " First Time Installation " banner but on tyring to use the Remote control to start the program search nothing happened. got the green light to go but zilch. So annoying ! is this just a case of a faulty remote ? any help more than welcome cheers
thanks DeadFredVideo, it was the remote, now I have a replacement. but trying to link up the digibox to my Samsung HR730 DVDR but having no joy. must have tried every combination but losing it trying to find/store the right AV channel to watch recorded programs ! may need a upgraded recorder but trying to work around it first. ... God DAMN this digital switchover ! lol
looks like an interesting idea, ive a 42inch plasam 1080 set with built in freeview and some channels are blocky due to low bandwidth i think were talking 570by 384 pixels and low bit rate so im looking into something to improve picture quality without having to subsribe to something i dont want just to get a better picture.
Hey dude, nice vid,i was wondering weather to get one of them HD upscaling digi boxes but my HD tv has a digi box fitted into it but i dnt kno if it is normal def or upscaled,do you know?
oh that ok price coz i only 13 and buying out of birthday and christmas money for my xbox, thank i think i found 1 now any way it a bush 1 for £175 and on argos got 5 star rating
the whole digital tv infrastructure was paid for by the british public via the tv licence money.itv, channel 4 and the rest got all their new gear for free.when you think about it,it was actually a bribe by the BBC
hi, thanks for this. i'm still trying to get my head around all this, so apologies if this is wrong... but you mention that you get "jumping" on fast moving objects. is this because of the "up scaling" technology or because you're watching it in 1080i and are observing interlacing artefacts? i.e. do you still get the jumps if you watch it in 720p?
Its just because i was using 1080i - im not 100% on how they work but interlaced (the "I") refreshes half the image at one time giving it a jumpy effect :)
Progressive scan (the "P") refreshes the whole image at a time so the video is much smoother
I use 720p now very smooth :)
The picture quality is brilliant no artifacts in interlaced or progressive modes :)
I got this Delivered today and have had a short play with it, I'm very pleased and I've not overly messed with settings on my TV yet. It certainly cleans up the blocking and noise of a poor bitrate channel quite well and brings out a lot of detail on the channels that are well encrypted already like Channel 5. It wipes the floor with my Samsung's inbuilt Freeview, very smooth and on 720p as you suggested. Never thought I would be praising a Goodmans product, but I am this time, Thanks again
lol i bought this hdmi box the other day but cant use it yet, need my external aireal cable in my room and when i orderd a bush hdmi box they gave me one of these, not that i care tho .
hi there my hdtv has some signal noise it sounds like this shhhhhhhhhhhhshhhhhhhhhhshhhhhhhhhh what can I do to reduce it? should I return the tv back to argos or is it something else thanx
Hi!! I relly like your video. I am thinking about buying SAMSUNG LE32R88BD which has freeview tuner built in. I am just wondering is it HDMI tuner ? How do you think - what can i expect?
If you just used a bog standard freeview box the picture would of looked just as good. You would only get hi def picture with that box on high def channels and freeview hasn't gone hi def yet. Great investment for the future though
Yeah, it works better than scart because hdmi is a totaly digtal interface. The picture does'nt have to be converted to an analogue signal so qulaity is not lost, audio is the same :) Im not 100% if im right but i think the TV (on scart) just streches the picture to fit the TV's native res so it looks a bit crusty :) Whereas this box upscales the picture to a high res makiing it appear better
If the input is scart, composite, analogue tv, and s-video they don't support resolutions above 576i so the TV just stretches the picture to the resolution of the TV :)
Hi really useful vid! Ive got a 22" LG Monitor (L226WTQ) which i use with my 360 via vga but i wondered weather i could attach the Goodmans GDB15HD to my monitor with a hdmi to dvi-d cable?
I don't think that would work sadly. HDMI carries audio aswell as video, but DVI can't carry audio so the sound would go missing :) Im not sure if there are any adapters available that can split the sound off and let you plug into the PC audio input but if there are that would work :0
Nice! I just happened to be looking for reviews, on this box, prior to stumbling on this video. I want to buy it for use on my Sammy 2032mw, which is basically the same as the 225mw. I guess I have no excuse not to buy it now, thanks :)
-Anyone know if the box upscales anything other than Freeview (eg from DVD player > GDB15HD RGB/Scart > TV HDMI)?-
Yes a monitor with 1680x1050 will show 1080i XBOX 360, although to get the best 1080i picture a tv with 1920x1080 resolution would be best but they are expensive :)
would this box work good on a normal tv without hdmi cable?

Thanks for making this Video, It was helpful and informative.
Going to order this after seeing it on offer Today on Hot UK Deals for £25.
Going to be pairing it up with a Samsung LCD - Model LE32R87BDX as I'm not happy with the quality of the inbuilt Freeview.
For £25 this is worth the investment to see if I can Improve the quality.
Thanks Again.

Id suggest these tips:
- Check your aerial is in properly
- Try a different TV with the same aerial to check if it is the aerial that is broken
- Retune your TV
If these don't work im not sre what else to do thanks :)

I just looked at the back and the scart input says "vhs/aux" which suggests it may do this....
... i just tried it and read instructions no luck :)
Thanks for watching!

i think the stutter u were talking about in fast moving parts of the picture is due to it being in 1080i mode (interlaced)
have u tried it out in 720p u should notice it is able to handle fast moving picture like sports alot better
thereelone 4 years ago
Thata right, i have started using 720p its much smoother. Im not sure if its because my tv is not truely 1080i or that the box struggles with.
Thanks for the advice :)

Will a 1680x1050 monitor play 1080i video's and XBOX 360 HDMI?
