i have also never seen this it is amazing what you discover looking for different things on the internet these days. i remember when the internet was first introduced to me i almost fell of my chair with excitment and now look.... WoW the Who right infront of my eyes i never thought i would see them live again. thank you for this video it has filled a hole in me that i never thought would be filled. i love you the internet. and now i have filled up my characters never mind it has been fun
It looks like there was some confusion in this. at 1:05 Daltry is telling Pete something. I don't know if it was technical or he was expecting Pete to do a solo 'cause at 1:09 he completely lost the lyric. I'm thinking Pete was supposed to do a solo. ya know this song could've been one of those they played so much they neve felt the need to rehearse. Oh, well. still killer.
It's true there is nothing wrong with repeating lyrics; in fact sometimes the repetition of words can be considered artistic genius... but to be perfectly honest, in the case of Substitute, I like their late 60s early 70s version of it. It just feels shorter and sweeter. Same is the case with 'My Generation.' Both are great, but they're pop songs, and the Who have moved on to bigger and better things since. This is just my opinion though. Personally the late 60s early 70s Who era is my favorite.
say what you will about pete being overrated, but i've looked alllllll over youtube, and NO ONE can top either his singing nor his acoustic/electric guitar playing. just goes to show how TRULY Great you have to be to not only get a record deal but also be as popular and critically successful as the who
This whole dvd annoys me. It's a golden performance no doubt but a lot of it is cut out and they cut out a ton of Tommy and even cut short Tommy songs, like "Go To The Mirror". I don't know why.
Btw Roger didnt mess up the lyrics there. "I look forward but my feet walk back" or something was a substitute (no pun intended) for the original lyric "I look all white but my dad was black" because of the racial sensitivity at the time.
What part of the concert is this. Is this them warming up because it looks like they are doing just that. Also you edited it a little because when they say "substitute towards the end you hear Pete in a tenor pitched voice not John.

Why are their live performances of this always so short?
MightyAlz 3 years ago
lyrics mostly repeat
rcollins93 3 years ago
So what?
MightyAlz 3 years ago 2
so theres really no need to play the whole 3+ minutes
rcollins93 3 years ago
Using that logic, there'd be no need for the average Ramones song to go over 30 seconds.

A macintosh was a style of British raincoat, like Sherlock Holmes is frequently depicted wearing.
