  • I have sung this in Guildford Cathedral and I know how it moves everyone who hears it. You really have done it justice, Pro Cantu.

  • this performance brought tears to my eyes....unbelievable....the mastery of both the conductor and the performers is unparalleled...why has the world not heard of these singers?

  • These singers are heaven.

    Digital distortion is hell.

  • Wow...and I thought my school's advanced choir was good! You guys are great! I'm sad now, though, because I used to think my choir was the best in the world. Ah, well; I've found someone better! Great job 5/5 stars!

  • This song is so beautiful. There are no words that can fully describe how beautiful it really is. It gave me goosebumps lol.

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful. The dynamics are so pronounced. More than I have heard from any other choir. This is the way it shoudl be done always. Thanks for posting it.

  • this is the version that is used as the mp3

  • your hall has such a wonderfully warm flavor when it comes to acoustics. i performed with you in cape town a year and a half ago, and you are twice as breathtaking in person. i loved bawo, but couldn't have we done lux instead?

  • absolutly stunning!! this performance of a great piece is almost beyond words. as close to perfect as can be achieved!

  • full of grace!

  • wow that is an absolutely fantastic youth choir. one thing that may seem kind of silly, but i really love is the presentation. The spacing of the choir, all on those big steps, it's a very cool effect and it blends the voices very nicely. on a more musical note, I would have to agree that the way they crescendo and fade on " na tum" etc... that whole ending part was great.

  • sehr weich好音

  • Sooo, where exactly is this choir from b/c I find them to be pretty outstanding... lol...

I absolutly love this video!... Excellent Job!

  • they are called the "Pro Cantu Youth Choir" and are from capetown, South Africa

and they are equally outstanding live and in person

  • this is the best version I have heard of this song. THANK YOU.

  • This version is very well done but Polyphony does great justice to all of Eric Whitacre's music including this piece. If you haven't heard of them you should look them up, they truly are amazing!

  • Love how they crescendo, it sounds fantastic. The blending is superior. Especially when they are into the forte sections.

  • Our choir currently has about 55 members, and we are just finishing the season with our gala concerts. We are open for auditions. Thanks for all your comments, people. We really do appreciate your enthusiasm and support. Hopefully our web master will have some more recordings up on youtube soon... :)

  • Ages 14-25, we are not a professional choir (but you do have to audition to get in). It's an amazing group to be a part of! We have great fun making music together :)

Pro Cantu took part in the 5th World choir games in Gratz, Austria in July 2008, and won 2 gold medals, taking first place in the Musica Sacra section. Yay! It was really awesome.

  • 'Pro Cantu is proud to provide an opportunity for young South Africans to sing in a choir of the highest international standards whilst delivering a moving musical experience to its audiences. Choir rehearsals (twice a week) provide an opportunity for young people from all population groups to meet, form friendships and make incredible music.'

  • For those who have been asking: "Who is this choir and where are they from?" I am also in Pro Cantu Youth Choir. Here is an insert from our website:

  • This FAR exceeds all other performances I have heard of this piece. Well done Pro Cantu - wonderful stuff! :)

  • FANTASTIC !!! GOOD LUCK IN AUSTRIA - YOU DESERVE A 1ST THIS TIME. ENJOYED LISTENING AND SINGING WITH YOU IN WILTON CHURCH ON SATURDAY NIGHT! xxx ;)

  • Good for you....glad to hear it...and YES!!!...your performance here really IS better than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's....and please don't get me wrong...the MTC's performance is by EVERY measure "standard-setting" -- PRO CANTU's performance was simply better...

  • And if you need any more proof of this, go listen/watch to the performance of this piece by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, including superbly choreographed ballet ensemble, performed by the acknowledged TOP choir in the ENTIRE United States, with its almost 1000 highly-trained and disciplined voices, with absolutely PRIMO recording characteristics (it was a PBS special, for chrissakes,) and you will STILL agree that the performance by PRO CANTU exceeded this one by a choral MILE!!!

  • Thank you. The high quality version will be out soon....watch this space :)

  • @vmike1027 I just LOVE this choral recording so much it is almost impossible to say...I come "back" to it every several months or so...STILL have never found anything else that equals it....these young singers and their conductor simply hit EVERY note, with such precision and beauty, it is simply BREATHTAKING....

  • @vmike1027 um, you do know that mormon tabernacle choir is volunteer and non-auditioned? For such a choir, they are unbelievably talented, but I would not consider them the best of all mixed choirs. In fact, Concordia, the London select ensemble (450 voices), and Bella voces (female chanticleer) could contend for the top spots. That said, all this talent comes from our all-state chorus singers and other great individuals. Keep doing what you're doing, all choral singers. We love you.

  • I did go and listen to the high school choir performance conducted by the composer, Eric Whitacre, and while very moving and satisfying, it did not hold a CANDLE to the performance turned in here by PRO CANTU -- and primarily because of the extraordinarily lucid interpretation of the conductor -- which, strangely enough, proves that a superb choral director can produce a more magnificent performance of a particular piece than the composer of the piece can produce from an equally qualified choir.

  • In addition to this beautiful performance by ProCantu, there is another excellent performance of this piece without the microphone feedback. It is conducted by Eric Whitacre, posted in March of 2008. Search "Lawrence Free State High School Chamber Choir" from Lawerence, KS. You'll enjoy is as well.

  • Thank you very much.

  • OK....so please, do NOT misunderstand the intent of this comment....I have been magnificently supportive and complimentary...so what's the "holdup?"....why can't a "good" microphone be secured and the performance be re-recorded in all its obvious glory? There is simply no better choral group/conductor on the Internet....what are you waiting for? (just saying...think it's high time for you to "get it together" and shine your true light for the world to see/hear)

  • Thank you for your comments. Our online shop is almost finished. We have a high quality recording. It will be released soon.:)

    Musical Greetings

  • this is simply amazing

  • Definitely the best performance of Lux Aurumque on Youtube so far...just wish there weren't any microphone issues...

    God, it's so beautiful :)

  • Thank you very much.

Please visit our website for more info. Our online shop will go live in a couple of weeks.

    Musical Greetings

  • Very nicely done. Where is this group from? High school or college group?

  • Excellent except for the mike issue.

  • Thank you very much

  • i found it much easier to listen to with headphones on and lower the volume till you barely hear the overpowering mic issues.. but needless to say,

this is BY FAR, the best performance of lux on here.

i did it at area all state this year and its one of my favorite choral pieces. just beautiful.

  • Now several months since I first listened and watched...and more than EVER...this vocal performance stands in my mind as rivaling ANY of the VERY BEST of all time...of course there's the microphone issue....but the absolute perfect respect these young singers show the conductor in following EXACTLY his every command of timing and pitch, combined with the extraORDINARILY lucid interpretation the conductor provides, equals a performance unparalleled anywhere across the planet.

  • Thank you very much for your support.

  • my chorus class did this song last year, and i know how difficult this song is. it took us a LONG time to get it right. They sound amazing!!! They were on pitch the whole time and the soprano's sound great. :] It takes a great conducter/teacher to be able to teach this song. they are a reflection on him. Absolutely awesome job!

  • Very surprising to hear such a mature sound coming from such a youthful group....Agree with previous commenter that a "good microphone" would make ALL the difference....but even without, a MOST pleasurable experience!!!!

  • BRAVO!! Increíble!! Una perfomance increíble!! Saludos desde Granada :)

    Jalfo ;)

    Coral Instituto Padre Manjón

  • Hi! Where is this being performed? The acoustics are AMAZING!

  • i LOOOOVE lux aurumque, but i'd go so far to say as the symphonic arrangement of it is even better :]

  • that may be the most beautiful music i've ever heard, just breathtaking, and that was a truly gorgeous version of it. just incredible. thanks.

  • what choir is this? For a small group they sure are powerful.

  • two thoughts....one...there was nothing but absolute perfect pitch, at all times, throughout the performance...the RECORDING introduced some distortion and unpleasant reverberations...the CONDUCTOR/CHOIR DIRECTOR should be commended above all for his "dead-on" interpretation of all aspects...but particularly dynamics....transitions from pianissimo to fortissimo within the same BAR...all to most pleasing and dramatic effect....BRAVO!!!!

  • Thank you very much

  • That was absolutely wonderful

  • excellent! your voices were able to bring the right emotions of the song. it was quite evident that the singers understood the meaning of the song and were able to express that meaning in their voices. the excellent use of appropriate dynamics were the icing on the cake! excellent! job well done!

  • Thank You

  • Excellente!! Bastante Trabajador!!

  • Thank you

See everyone in carnegie hall in NY soon.

    warm regards,

  • that's nice, but I think the solo soprano have gone way to high, it's a little bit sharp, anyway, you still did a great job

  • If the voice of God can be heard directly on this Earth, it is heard in the combined voices of these young singers.

This is THE most astounding vocal performance I have EVER heard...bar none. The attenuation of the individual singers in this performance to the final "product" of the group is unmatched in excellence.

Pro Cantu should be celebrated worldwide!!!

  • Thank you very much

  • This song is beautiful, you captured the emotion, spirit , love Eric Whitcare had and were a vessel which carried it straight into my soul.

Thank you for all the hard work and parctice, your own emotion and love to have made it happen.

  • One of the best performances of Lux I've seen on here...absolutely stunning! What a treat!

  • thank you...Watch this space for When David heard

  • AMAZING!!! You guys did Eric Whitacre justice! and yes...I am waiting for 'When David heard', another great song.

  • DAMN DAMN DAMN

    YALL TORE THAT SONG UP!

  • Thank you...Visit again for When david heard...

  • Beautiful.

I have goosebumps from the dynamics and wonderful sound.

What a great spac; the acoustics are great!

  • Thank you

  • amazing.

    i miss you guys!
