  • Forget the shark, look at those tuna . . . Mmmmm.

I see white sharks almost everytime I go fishing out of HMB . . .

I seen an awesome seal kill one time, at the surface, like 20 ft away.... gruesome

  • @frogfeeder Where's HMB? Hermosa beach?

  • great to see them being re-introduced to their natural environment, and not hunted and killed like the sick vid i saw on youtube of a gravid white shark dead onshore and then they forced out the young, some real sick people in this world!

  • Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. So, they catch them when they are little and then when captivity isn't working out any longer, they put them back in the ocean so they can survive? That is a pretty good idea, that way they don't die. Such beautiful animals.

  • I remember seeing this one back in '06; she was a real beauty.

I think this was Monterey's second one. I know that by now, they've had five. They just released another one not too long ago. She was a really beauty as well, plus a real show off. She (yes, another female) was released for displaying some amount of aggresive behavior in the tank.

  • I was't there personally but i watched it live for days on the internet webcam - on for like 5-10 minutes sometimes just to catch a glimpse of the shark (it was stationary) i can't believe it's here now.

    thank you.

  • That is very real. It is the 2nd shark they have had in captivity. For some reason Great Whites don't last long in captivity, so they can be kept for so long before needing to be released. If you get a chance to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, GO! You won't be dissapointed and mey get to see something like this.

  • I've been there its real

  • Awhile back, when I went on a field trip there and I saw hammerheads. A few days later, my teach said it (great white) was released for killing the hammerheads

  • Wait, so I'm confused. They only kept her for a little while and then let her go?

  • White Sharks do not do well in captivity. They let them go when it is no longer working out.

  • I want to go to Monterey the next time they have a white shark. I wonder if they'll ever be able to hold a huge one, like 15ft, for long periods of time one day.

  • after they got rid of this guy, the SUNFISH is now the biggest brute in the exhibit.

    also the ugliest. lol

but wen i went to this aquarium i was too late to see the great white. :[

only one to be in captivity

  • What a beautiful, graceful animal. You're right, sharks have been much maligned for far too long. God made them, too, for a reason... and, in my opinion, what a wonderful job He did with them! We have so much more to learn from these fascinating creatures. Nicely done video! I envy you seeing her. I was in Monterey earlier in September this year, but unfortunately it was just after they had released their latest White Shark. Still a stunning display in every way! Spectacular!

  • Everbody should take note of a guy in austrailia named vic hislop he kills great whites, freezes them and puts them on display and charges people like 20 bucks to see them. What a fucking prick!

  • hang on thats not a correct representation of the real story. GW are protected and Vic is a well reknowned GW expert having spent many years research and time and effort into busting shark myths. he's one of the reasons GW's are now protected. Many of his exhibits are from others, nets and musuems and most are casts. Some- from the early days, are real...but you've put a spin on him that is completely unfair.

  • Please, say whatever you want, feel, etc. but please dont use the kind of language as in the last two words. I am to make art that is a reprieve from the darkside, for kids, older people, people that cuss and people that dont. I don;'t mind the language, but if it is not fit for public broadcast, its not fit for public broadcast. The FTC can't be everywhere and its kind of up to us.

Otherwise, thanks for visiting. Glad you are interested in white sharks. I am fascinated by them.

  • lol they released it cus it ate all the tuna in the outer bay exhibet

  • Yeah, they get released after so long. No great white shark has ever survived in captivity for more than a period of three months. I'm not sure about the exact period of time.

  • 198 days. That's the time in the exhibit (not counting the ocean pen acclimation period).

  • how can people do such cruel things to the greatest hunter people ever have seen!?

    freedom for every great white!

  • You do know this shark is free and in the ocean right? They let them go after a period of time. This is the second white shark. The third one they had has also been released last month. You can track it's travels on the Monterey Bay Aquarium website. I personally would never have been able to see a white shark up close and personal like this and really am glad they had this exhibit.

  • Okay. I've been volunteering at the Monterey Bay Aquarium since 2003, and I can tell you that almost NONE of our fish stay in the aquarium permenantly. Some fish, like the larger sharks and white sharks, are only allowed to stay for about half a year before being released, since we honor that they need to navigate and hunt properly. The aquarium only exists to show these animals that are temporarily behind acrylic so people can see how the oceans around Monterey operate, and to conserve them.

  • damn that must be a HUGE tank because I heard Great Whites would starve themselves if they were put in a tank? Maybe i'm wrong...

  • They are beautifull animals and actually very timid not the mindless killers Hollywood has wrongly portrayed them as They are on the vulnerable list and are in serious danger of becoming extinct More people die annually of dog attacks than shark attacks

  • You're right! I've been volunteering at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for the past 6 years, and a lot of people come totally brainwashed by the media, thinking sharks are bloodthirsty hunters, when they are really intelligent, often picky, and even social creatures with complex lifestyles and an ancient history. They are crucial to the survival to all oceabic food webs! It is estimated that 100 million sharks, rays, and skates are slaughtered annually, so it's really important that we protect them!

  • thanks for the upload

  • its not illegal hippy

  • they arent tamable thats dangerous and illegal

  • sharks in a cage ?! wth ?

  • well sharks in a tank.

  • I went on a day long trip to Monterey just to see this shark. And when i got there they had released it without telling it on the internet. Huge dissapointment. This was in 2005. So how could this be be filmed in 2006?

  • There have been three sharks. This is the second one. Now there is currently a third on in this tank. Thanks for visiting and viewing the video.

  • The one that was caught in the fishing nets. Then sent to Monterey was released back into the wild. The shark was starting to get big and well started to feed on the other fish.

  • This is the one that was released, your right.

  • it's in canada you retard.

  • Canada?

  • sfbaimages...dutego was being sarcastic as to the whereabouts of the shark.

  • roger that, anyone who calls people retards is obviousy not real. People on youtube seem to think its a forum for being rude. Not you or most of the people (that want to sharks)

but some of the comments are shocking!

  • does anyone know if this shark is still alive or still in captivity?

  • that sux white sharks cant live in captivity for long this shark will die in a couple of months...thats really sad they should b in the wild not in a cage shame america

  • I love sharks! This footage is great- thanks and when can we see some underwater diving w/them? -

  • What great footage! She's a beauty! Congratulations on a really nice video.
