with the way it ended there is deferentially room for another couple of books. don't get me wrong it ended great.
i donno maybe with the plot that "Ezra" is defeated and now being controlled by the "hunter" from the ezra woods and its causing mayhem in cenaria, and if Kyler doesn't stop it he looses the power of the black stone and cenaria is destroyed.
It reminded me of the Air Bender movie lol it looked more like they was bending the elements then what I imagined drafting colours would look like...the trailor was alright I suppose (Good effort!) but the book is sooooo much better then it is portrayed here.
Oh god. The trailer is not even worthy of a B movie.... So many simple things they could have gotten right, hair color, the idea that darker skin is more prevalent, The book 'looks' so much more awesome in my head. If they do this as a movie, they -need- peter jackson to direct...
Wait, the black near-adult who looks to have no fat on him whatsoever was meant to be Kip? I watched the whole trailer and was wondering "wheres kip?". Only after reading the comments did i realise. Hes 15, not 20, hes so overweight hes ashamed to have a woman see him with his shirt off and if you think about it would he really be that dark with the parents he has? Karris looks like a librarian and the spectacles are shit. The cast is all wrong for such an amazing book <3 Go buy it!
the book is a great and interesting read but i'm not feeling this trailer all that much for one kip is betrayed wrong like his skin color i know the people of Tyrea are dark skinned but that would make Kip mixed and have lighter skin. The fact that your where able to see purple being drafted even though its supposed to be invisible to everyone except people who can draft it and the fighting kinda looks cheaply done

Anyway, on topic. I really do feel this video does more harm than good for the book series. The characters aren't as heroic/twisted, beautiful/ugly, etc. as the book describes, and the fighting in this video isn't quite the same style as it should be. Amazing book, not so amazing video.

Just think- although hes tyrean (who are dark skinned), his father gain is very pale and has blue eyes. The two together would make a lighter shade of brown dont you think? i see where your coming from though

I'm surprised Brent let this happen, the trailer is horrendous. The effects weren't bad but it doesn't convey any of the feeling that the book has. anyways do not let this trailer steer you away from the book. Brent Weeks did an amazing job with the Night Angel trilogy, three of my favorite books, and he created something masterful in "The Black Prism". Buy it and read it. plus I'm pretty sure Kip shouldn't be "that" black, hes more like "The Rock" in skin color. and yes young and fat.
This video does no justice to the books descriptions, and if anything the Night Angel triology should be the series that gets a movie not the Black Prism
If the book gets more popular somehow, make it into a legitimate movie. Not something to look like this. Maybe have the people that made Lord Of The Rings movie next project movie should be this. o.o

I think the video production is well done. As some of the guys have said before, not super accurate to the book, but in itself I think you did a good job!
The publicity is good. The accuracy is not. Gavin shaves once or twice a day, he does not have a bear. Kip is short and fat. Karris is just ordinary looking here, but I suppose that can be excused. Green luxin is more flexible, blue would be more crystalline, and we shouldn't be able to see superviolet so easily. Rask Garadul has a small black beard, and I imagine he would be younger and far more regal.
Guys, this trailer was produced much earlier than the release of the book; not to mention made on a pocket lint budget. Most of the editing was done as a charity. Not many books get posters in a book store much less a trailer.
Try at least to see a little bit of the big picture. This trailer gives great publicity for Brent's book. As many have mentioned this is what sparked their interest. Try to be a little supportive.
I'm not going to lie, this trailer really got me interested in this book series. I had loved the Night Angels trilogy, and this book trailer made the next book look insane. Naturally, I bought it. Now that I know more about the book, the trailer is definitely off in some measures. But it got the word out for a book that is perhaps the greatest in our generation.
Gonna be honest, this book is fricken unreal, I was a bit unsure at first but since I enjoyed the night angel immensely I gave it a shot. A bit slow at first but it became unbelievable after the first 100 pages. However this trailer is not to my liking, Spectacles look bad, "Gavin" does not look as heroic as I thought, and Kip isn't portrayed accurately. I would NOT show this trailer to people to get them interested in the book. It honestly looks really bad, and it's upsetting.
@Sheendude Yeah, that was the skinniest fat kid I've ever seen, and none of the other characters looked right to me either. If anything, this looks like a bad fan made trailer. If we get lucky enough to see a Night Angel or Lightbringer movie(s), I PRAY they come out a lot better than this, because they are absolute masterpieces. Doing them justice is a heavy task, but if anyone is ever going to do it, they need to do it right.

This scared me, I'm officially done with all live action reproductions of my favorite books. Even if they are the best movie/tv show's ever created, I can't watch them, I just sit in my chair thinking, Kip's not black? there was no fire at the Weasley house? This isn't even related to the SOT series (fuck you TG for admitting you were associated with that monstrosity, I will never reread your books or buy another one)? Oh thank God I thought they were making a movie out of this. Seriously, If they DO make a movie, it's gotta be at least 20 times better than what I saw here... Brent Weeks wrote it so well that I expect a movie to compliment the book, not decimate it like Eragon did.

When I saw this I thought it was a trailer for a film xD the book was amazing but I always like to see a visual, especially if the author has had a hand in it, to see where we disagree in interpretations. I must say that if it becomes a film, I wouldn't be too disappointed!

@Elpha22 I was surprised that it has a trailer. I had 0 expectations that it would be good at all but it was really bad ass. I was impressed. Accuracy of characters was way off for me but maybe it was made before the characters were set in stone.
Books don't need trailers but this is definitely a plus imo. I've always wanted video games or movies based on my favorite books (all of brent weeks stuff, and mistborn trilogy) but I feared that no one would do it justice. This gives me hope ;p

@Elpha22 Yeah I agree, I don't think it's required but it's a possibility that books will make trailers if it proves to be an effective method for attracting people. I was very shocked to see this, and more shocked that it was pretty good.
I think they took a big risk doing this and I'm surprised they did, so I commend them for that. I take this as a bonus personally, a gift. I'm sure a lot of money and effort went into this with no assurance of any profit or even making any money at all.
@Elpha22 I have mixed feelings. I feel like books should stray from visuals as much as possible just because it spoils what your imagination can do and I'm sure a lot of people would be upset if they think the way they interpreted the book is "wrong" due to visuals.
At the same time there are some things (usually scenery) that I just can't picture and really wish I had some visual reference of textures, layout etc... And I always hope that someone makes an amazing game/movie adaptation.
i was expecting kip to be alot smaller and fatter, and the lenses i imagine them to be more like small round glasses perched on the edge of the nose. :P
Uwielbiam książkę - nie tak bardzo jednak, jak Trylogię Anioła Nocy - i zwiastun bardzo mi się podoba, choć wiele rzeczy wyobraziłam sobie zupełnie inaczej, przede wszystkim Kip wygląda zupełnie inaczej. Może efekty specjalne nie jak z amerykańskiej superprodukcji, ale ogólnie bardzo fajny... Tylko te okularki mnie dobijają!!!

Stirring action; fast paced; builds characters that you want to know more about; it works to intrigue you enough to want to read the book and look for a future full length movie. Outstanding job, Leo. Karris is definitely beautiful and powerful. Such a combination. Nice bod, Gavin! The ladies and the guys will pant over these characters. Love it! I'm going to have to buy this book.
This just reinforces how much I dislike my favorite books being placed into the film genre. This just reminds me of how disappointed I was when I first saw Legend of the Seeker.
I now grieve over the fact that if The Night Angel Trilogy becomes a movie it honestly wouldn't do the book justice. Even with such a low budget Brent did his best to make a trailer for this. Amateur, Doesn't do the book justice but it is far better than what some would do. The imagery in the black prism could only be portrayed on the silver screen by some of the best cinematic artists.
If you're going to spend money on a trailer, at least do it stylishly. Getting a bunch of LARPers to poorly act out a pseudo-movie trailer is just going to make your book look shit, no matter how good the effects and choreography. Saying that, the trailer ably represents the cheesiness of the books anyway - so it's probably a pretty accurate representation of what you'll get in the novel.
i dont know about everyone else but the way i took it was that kip was supposed to be semi dark, like hawaiian or some thing, you no tan but not black like iron fist is supposed to be.
I haven't even read the first book yet, so I have absolutely NO IDEA what's going on... but I wish they could do one of these trailors for the Night Angel Trilogy. Or just go ahead & make it into a TV show already, like Game of Thrones. Come on!! :D

Its right, the Art of War in this book is completely another one as showed in the Trailer.
Scenen which where in the book are also in the trailer bur absolutely modiefied.

Despite this things, the trailer is even nice... Great Ligh and Specialeffects even if they arent really correct as explained in the book.

this trailer looks like it would be for a interesting movie, but not for the black prism. the magic looks completely wrong too sparkly, like its intangible, not like it was made of the luxin described in the books . among other things

This scared me, I'm officially done with all live action reproductions of my favorite books. Even if they are the best movie/tv show's ever created, I can't watch them, I just sit in my chair thinking, Kip's not black? there was no fire at the Weasley house? This isn't even related to the SOT series (fuck you TG for admitting you were associated with that monstrosity, I will never reread your books or buy another one)? But at the same time I always watch the show and punish myself

@stevet159 I completely understand your frustration, but its impossible to get everything in the books into tv/movies. And yeah, the SOT series pretty much sucked, but they admitted that they just ripped the setting and the main characters, without thinking much on the story. It made me sad...

@Altair122122332345 Several times in the book Kip is referred to somewhat condescendingly as a halfbreed - his mother was dark skinned, and his father was white. But yes, he should be a good few years younger than this video and fat.

i really thought this book was below par after night Angel. I liked the Guile Brothers thing, and I thought the magic idea was great but I just didn't care one bit for the characters. Plus...why is Kip a black guy? he was useless anyway. why didnt weeks carry on in the Midcyru universe and keep to the gritty grim stuff? I want more Lantano Garuwashi

When I saw this I thought it was a trailer for a film xD the book was amazing but I always like to see a visual, especially if the author has had a hand in it, to see where we disagree in interpretations. I must say that if it becomes a film, I wouldn't be too disappointed!

They portrayed these scenes totally oppositeof how i saw them in my head.
A) Luxin is more than just a glow in your hands that hits people. It has to have mass and shape.
B) Kip is fat not skinny
C) When kips friends are murdered in Rekton they are standing under a bridge not in a small creek.

@Elpha22 I was surprised that it has a trailer. I had 0 expectations that it would be good at all but it was really bad ass. I was impressed. Accuracy of characters was way off for me but maybe it was made before the characters were set in stone.
Books don't need trailers but this is definitely a plus imo. I've always wanted video games or movies based on my favorite books (all of brent weeks stuff, and mistborn trilogy) but I feared that no one would do it justice. This gives me hope ;p

@Elpha22 Yeah I agree, I don't think it's required but it's a possibility that books will make trailers if it proves to be an effective method for attracting people. I was very shocked to see this, and more shocked that it was pretty good.
I think they took a big risk doing this and I'm surprised they did, so I commend them for that. I take this as a bonus personally, a gift. I'm sure a lot of money and effort went into this with no assurance of any profit or even making any money at all.

@Elpha22 I have mixed feelings. I feel like books should stray from visuals as much as possible just because it spoils what your imagination can do and I'm sure a lot of people would be upset if they think the way they interpreted the book is "wrong" due to visuals.
At the same time there are some things (usually scenery) that I just can't picture and really wish I had some visual reference of textures, layout etc... And I always hope that someone makes an amazing game/movie adaptation.

Uwielbiam książkę - nie tak bardzo jednak, jak Trylogię Anioła Nocy - i zwiastun bardzo mi się podoba, choć wiele rzeczy wyobraziłam sobie zupełnie inaczej, przede wszystkim Kip wygląda zupełnie inaczej. Może efekty specjalne nie jak z amerykańskiej superprodukcji, ale ogólnie bardzo fajny... Tylko te okularki mnie dobijają!!!
PS: Szkoda, że nie pokazali więźnia, bo jest moją ulubiona postacią. I nie mogę się doczekać kontynuacji

Stirring action; fast paced; builds characters that you want to know more about; it works to intrigue you enough to want to read the book and look for a future full length movie. Outstanding job, Leo. Karris is definitely beautiful and powerful. Such a combination. Nice bod, Gavin! The ladies and the guys will pant over these characters. Love it! I'm going to have to buy this book.

I now grieve over the fact that if The Night Angel Trilogy becomes a movie it honestly wouldn't do the book justice. Even with such a low budget Brent did his best to make a trailer for this. I believe that one of the men who made Twilight has the rights to the movie. Now can anyone who read the book imagine Kylar Stern represented by some pretty boy who cannot even begin to portray anything that Brent Weeks would want. If this was a full length movie I would still go watch it, but think of it as a spin-off or a movie very loosely based on the book, although I still grief about Kip's appearance :(

Meh, he's kopi-and-cream coloured, which I always imagined as a cup of coffee with milk in it. So, not completely black, but, you know, tanned.

If you're going to spend money on a trailer, at least do it stylishly. Getting a bunch of LARPers to poorly act out a pseudo-movie trailer is just going to make your book look shit, no matter how good the effects and choreography. Saying that, the trailer ably represents the cheesiness of the books anyway - so it's probably a pretty accurate representation of what you'll get in the novel.
