Hi there. In Shanghai, the ticket cost is dependent on the number of stations you travel. So, you need to choose the destination station in Shanghai. Beijing, its RMB 2 for any distance traveled, so you don't need to go through all that mumbo jumbo:)
@itsbillh You're correct, it's the same price for any distance. However, when you use the machine to purchase a ticket it requires that you enter a destination. You may be able to pick any destination for speed sake and ride as long/short as you want!

@accebernosam Yes! VERY cheap. Depending on the exchange rate, right now that's about 60 cents - and it was even cheaper when we were there!
