  • god, the interviewer is creepy.

  • James Gandolfini rocks! It will be a long time before a character comes along as great as Tony Soprano!

  • Very humble i love this guy

  • I have never been able to stand it when they cut to the people in the crowd on this show. They look so star struck and honored and I don' t know why it bugs me so much but it does.

  • james clapping sounds like a headboard banging against the wall when 2 people are banging each other.

  • I like it how it goes when Jimmy claps with those massive hands of his, it goes flap flap flap flap flap...

  • think about how it was a big deal and worrisome to HBO that james was making 1 million per episode for sheer fucking brilliance, and then that worthless turd charlie sheen was making nearly 2 million for his shit show and performance. its hard to support HBO the elitist scum, leave that to 'professionals with advanced degrees' that can afford a monthly subscription in order to peer into the window of trash they rarely see from an elevated position (criminals) and just download their products.

  • James Gandolfini should change the name of the Antony Soprano

  • one of the greatest t.v. actors of our generation. He reminds me of carol o' connor of a generation ago.

  • sorry but the interviewer sounded weird

  • It looks like he is talking to dr Melfi!

  • this is like the worst intervieew ever, the interviewer sucks

  • looks like he's fighting a migraine this whole interview

  • who the fuck are you people that watch an episode of inside the actors studio, and complain about james lipton? you honestly don't know who he is/what this tv show is about? morons.

  • @finowa i know who he is, and i know what this show is about... but that doesn't make him any less annoying. He's the worst part of the show, and his skills as a host and interviewer are sub-sub-par, at best.

  • The reason people don't like Lipton, is because he's a slimy little sycophant, who can't get his head any further up the arse of the actors he talks to. As far as knowing what the show's about. It ain't rocket science. Actors come on, and talk about their career, and how they've arrived at the place their at. I've seen some pretty rude ego-maniacs on this show too.Their people, and not everything they say is liquid gold. Luck plays a big part in it. Not all talent gets that lucky break

  • its weird hearing him talk like this "MAKE IT STOP" :D

  • No one played a character in a mob setting but than he played Tony. Brando was great, Pacino, De Niro, James Caan, Ray Liotta all great of course. But Gandolfini as Tony Soprano was the greatest. His emotions, facial expressions, voice, attitude, swagger.. He blended so many elements into that role that were so real I can't tell the difference between the actor & the character, except the violence.

  • Christ his voice sounds wrong out of the Tony Soprano character

  • watching this interview, i see a lot of Tony Soprano in the real actor. his mannerisms, the way he looks down, hand jestures....pretty cool....

  • We need more scenes with violence against woman. Woman don't know how to behave anymore. Men need to show them by correcting their behavior.

  • @Svperstarr I just watched Christopher Choking Adriana when she tells him she's been marked by the Feds.. The look on her face fuckin freaked me out, Maybe hit'em a lil bt just no choking! haha

  • @Svperstarr You are sick! Maybe you should do like Tony did and go see a therapist, because you aren't wrapped too tight!!

I hope a real man breaks your face for talking and acting like that one day! You're a joke, you wish you were a man!!

  • People who disliked this video, what the f**k is wrong with you?

  • Lipton is some pain in the bollix! No one gives a flyin fuck who asks the questions its the answers that matter!

  • tony went into witness protection program and changed his name to james gandolfini... better believe it

  • The noise off his paws when he clapped lol. Bear of a man

  • @bugsymafiaangel I think he also goes by Jimmy.... David Chase always called him Jimmy

  • the guy whos interviewing him looks like hes got one of them rubber prosthetic masks on or about 10 layers of pancake on his face scary lol.

  • GOD!

  • most actors dotn act, they are just beings themselves. well obviously there is also a touch of talent and acting involved but still.

  • @david292978 that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard

  • Lol, James Gandolfini's clapping sounds like a flat tyre. XD

  • he is sooooooo fucking sexy..yum!

  • @elsoda great actor but sexy really?

  • @sekon2008 sweetheart..u have no idea the things i would do with this man...i find him soooo hot. i know, everyone thinks i am weird but thats my taste.

  • i have learned long ago....Never look to deep into the lives of the people you admire...Because you will Always be disappointed.

  • Absolutely no effing segue in this guys questions.

  • HUNGOVER

  • @MrDenizen If you think "every other character from now on is going to be Tony" then you obviously aren't attuned to how sophisticated that character is. It took YEARS to build up. He's a real breathing jealous neurotic. If you see a resemblance in another movie you're just watching the actor and not the character.

  • I don't rate him as an actor at all. He was born to play Tony Soprano, but every other character from now on is going to be Tony again. That's not good acting.. so he was basically just playing himself when he played T. Albeit with a thick New Jersey accent.

  • He seems high as fuck

  • @DanimalLawlz Yep, he seems lost in lala land!

  • I'm not used to Tony Soprano enunciating so well.

  • Comment removed

  • he is definately HIGH

  • "oooo" this is boring-sorry the dude who ask questions is so boring!

  • 2:45 young tony soprano !

  • his acting when hes james , he really is tony lol

  • will he ever get out of the tony role: idk. he played it so well, now it's like "hey, there's tony in a beard, hey, there's tony in a santa suit, hey, what is tony doing in that moive.." tho he may never have to work again, it's going to be hard to break outta that role, lose about 175 lbs, get some hair weave and maybe...

  • @msmiche1000 no he got the curse of being know forever of that one role, he was born to play Tony, and no matter what he does he will always be looked at as Tony, he'll never hed that image....

  • I am always surprised by how little people know about such things and they comment on them with no knowledge. James is a teacher, more than an interviewer, and he sacrifices those moments and peneatrates the interviews not only for the enjoyment of the view, but for the lessons to be learned by his students in the audience. That in itself, beyond anything else in his completely mastered craft, is what makes him so special.

  • wat school is this

  • why does he sound funny?

  • I love James Gandolfini, it was such a surprise to me when I heard him for the first time not as tony soprano, I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that he has an accent in the sopranos and that this is his normal voice.

  • Lipton is a great interviewer; and he said one thing at the beginning of this clip about James' role in Tarantino's move "True Romance" that I agree with, which was that Quentin is notorious for writing & directing violence, but that scene where Gandolfini and Arquette go at each other and she ends up killing him was absolutely the MOST violent thing that Tarantino (w/ Tony Scott) has put out, so far. It might even be the most violent scene that I have EVER seen in a movie. Totally EPIC!

  • it's like watching an episode of the sopranos. wired!

  • Its very odd hearing James speak without the thick Jersey accent of Tony Soprano

  • @Escobar9300 The heavy breathing's still there though.

  • He may seem like a nice guy but this piece of shit killed his fuckin nephew without blinking. MARON!

  • It's weird hearing him talk like that. He sounds so different, it's almost like he is acting now. I suppose it says more about his actual acting. I was always under the illusion that he was very much like Tony Soprano with regard to his dialect and mannerisms but i suppose i was completely wrong. Outstanding actor.

  • damn i had no idea he was nothing like tony soprano, james is the man

  • He is very charming. Tells god stories. Very insightful about the process of acting. His portrayal of Tony Soprano was simply epic. Loved the part about what a director has to give an actor.

  • Minute 7:51 probably couldn't have felt better or heard it spoken better on how to direct an actor.

  • the role of tony soprano was fucking made for him he was spectacular in it, and deserves some kind of a lifetime achievement award that they haven't even invented yet, for his portrayal.

  • @Theburn77 saying the role was made for him doesn't give enough credit to Gandolfini. The role was written with no one in mind, and Gandolfini MADE it his own. He created Tony Soprano as much as David Chase did.

  • @ecclesiasticous also Gandolfini read for the role TWICE - Ray Liota turned it down on two seperate occasions. chase was unaware of JG prior to audition, but said that he bought an intensity to the role that changed the feel of the pilot

  • @ecclesiasticous I agree with you, but it could also be said from a viewpoint that "the role was made for him" because nobody else could have brought Tony Soprano to life like James Gandolfini did. Maybe that's only in hindsight, but I certainly don't think any other actor could have done it anywhere near justice.

  • james gandolfini is the best actor i have ever seen he is no phony so he is down to earth is that a bad thing i think not!!! he started acting later in life that is why postalnation is dogging him! i guess postalnation is more of a brad pitt man!!

  • "Tonh's" speech is not necessarily mobster street slang. I was around plenty of people in North Jersey who are hardly mobed up and sound exactly like him. It's Italian influenced, generational and can be heard around the northeast metropolitian area.

  • Absolutely HATE the Kevin Finnerty voice :)

  • That's not James Gandolfini, that's Kevin Finnerty, the man who overpronounces his Rs.

  • There he is!!

  • i like him better with the guinea accent

  • He figured out how to live and act and act to live......acting and life are not THAT far apart for James Gandolfini. At least as a camera is rolling.

  • HE'S ACTING, of course his voice sounds different....

  • He seems very withdrawn, like nervous and insecure...

  • I think its his seat. :D Can't get comfterble... He should turn Tony Soprano on the place and kick some ass.

  • @CashForGash didn't feel that at all. he's just very true to himself i think

  • Tony Soprano's voice is more high pitched, I think.

  • Tony sounded different in series one than in series six. I've just started watching them over again.

  • @SupremePenguinTone Yeah u can tell he hadn't maybe fully developed the character during the first season..didn't quite have the accent down..i noticed that too..especially when u finish season 6 and then go right back and watch season 1 again..you can only see how much weight he had gained through the course of the show too lol

  • @LexPhilogus yeah a lot more nasal it's all those cigars

  • this is him, he is acting when you hear him as tony soprano.

  • @bitcheznhos Woah for real?

  • @bitcheznhos No shit!

  • @bitcheznhos really? you mean he was REALLY ACTING when he was tony??? I HAD NO FUCKING IDEA! Thanks caption fuckin obvious, fucking douchbag

  • @CrAzYMiXeZ Your Zelda remix, the beat you 'produced', the sound is so awful I can't believe the low level of quality and production. It sounds like some cheap casio keyboard from 1984. Silly nigger, trix are for kidz.

  • @bitcheznhos lol your comeback was so off topic, either you got nothing to say or your mom beat the shit out of you when you were a baby. And i aint black

  • @CrAzYMiXeZ No, Its just that that beat was so weak it was hilarious.

  • @bitcheznhos Really? I'm rolling in cash and I dont even have to leave my own home, I'm livin the good life....so have fun busting your ass for $7.50 an hour lol.

  • @bitcheznhos dumbass i didnt make the beat, i but the beat with lyrics.

  • @bitcheznhos Yeah, you can tell when he's acting, he uses the F word alot lol

  • @bitcheznhos no shit

  • @bitcheznhos o rly

  • @bitcheznhos well, waddayaknow

  • @bitcheznhos i like to believe that this is kevin finnerty we are seeing.

  • @bitcheznhos he doesn't act the soprano HE IS THE SOPRANO xD

  • in the middle of talking bout true romance then suddenly "IN 1995" how annoying

  • It's because all of these shows are edited down. In reality, these interviews last hours and hours. All the people in the audience pay to watch and learn, seen as we don't pay, we get the stripped down shit.

  • True Romance was a classic.

  • @614grind sure i saw it not long ago, what a great movie.

  • I don't think he likes being interviewed too much.

  • Very good actor. I heard he's a very nice man in real life aswell, is it true?

  • @fangthefeared he came at a guy videotaping him and told him he was going to "break his fucking face".

  • first off he is speaking with no jersy accsent he dosnt even spek with one and also in 129 he looks like harvey kitel

  • James is one of my favorite actors. My favorite however is Tom Hanks they should work together about something.

  • James sounds like he tries so hard not to speak with a Jersey accent...although, maybe I'm just used to his Tony Soprano accent.

  • @mrtony80

that is a real jersey accent. Ton is exaggerated or just an anomaly. imo. the emphasizing 'r's and other syllables like that is very nj

  • James Gandolfini BEST MAN OF THE WORLD

  • amen

  • This interviewer is one of the worst I've ever seen. He doesn't let T talk at all, by interuptering him all the time with his stupid interrogation-way of asking questions. Lose the note cards old man! Even Letterman would have gotten more out of T!

  • you do understand that these are always HEAVILY edited

  • I blasted a load at :22

  • hahahaha trippin

  • what does he says @ 00:26? the Nyslic technique? what?

  • meisner

  • tnx :] what is it basically?

  • I couldn't sit next to this guy and not think of him being Tony soprano. Impossible, everything he does is him, hah.

  • did u sit near him?

  • you're insane. the amount of emotions showed in 7 seasons of the sopranos is enough. he was excellent in the taking of pelham 123 and the mexican.

  • Wow, look at how slim he was at 2:45

  • great actor!! great show!!

  • he s the best

  • Great Interview, but the editing is really strange.

  • /agree -I wish they would just show the interview in it's entirety

  • see unlike the other people that come on this show, he's actually tlkin directly to the students!!

  • Gandolfini is fucking amazing, though interviewer could do better here.

  • hes so sexy

  • I'm always surprised when anyone lauds Lipton as an interviewer. He comes off like a phony aristocrat and movie star wannabe.

In particular, there are two things he does that REALLY annoy me: 1) referring to his guests by their nicnames (e.g. "Bobby" for "Robert De Niro") and 2) getting his guests to cry.

HOWEVER, having said that, I can't think of another interviewer who has the depth of research that Lipton does. Seriously, the subtle details he comes up with are amazing.

  • Ok, mine is closed. But open yours so I can stick my dick in it.

  • ahahahahahahahaha

  • Nice

  • LOL hahha.

about your original comment: i actually like lipton, but the nickname thing does get tacky.

  • @PostalNation it's that research and his ability to form it into landmarks by which he can get these stars (many of whom are not actually very comfortable just talking in front of people when lines are not in front of them or practiced (DeNiro being a good example)) to layout the narrative of their careers and lives. And keep folks like Robin Williams on track.... Or as close as you can get.

  • @PostalNation charlie rose is pretty awesome, the only thing I dislike about his interviews is that he just interviews the guest about current things.

  • @PostalNation Gandolfini doesn't come across as too 'scripted' or whatever you'd like to call it but yeah..the interviewer and every single guest are fake as hell

  • @PostalNation I think you motherfuckers really need to lay off James Lipton.

  • @PostalNation i thinks thats harsh..he does brown nose a bit..

but i think he's an interesting guy and he must know most of these stars but first name.

  • brilliant actor

  • jim john jame... just call him fucking james you stupid dumb bastard

  • XD ass..ton

  • "and her name is susan ass...ton" 0:39

  • who the fuck is the interviewer? he's fucking boring!

  • Shut the fuck up, you foreign cocksucker! Keep your fucking stupid fucking mouth shut and do some research! James Lipton is a genius at what he does. You''ve got balls calling anyone boring.

  • You fail.

  • Whatever that means, you fucking idiot!

  • A genius at what he does? Let's see how wikipedia describes "what he does:" wrote and acted in soap operas, wrote a few books, then he started this show. Wow, brilliant! What a genius, he's an interviewer!

  • Fuck your wikipedia! The man is a certified genius and that's why the show is so venerable and respected. But you're a fucking douchebag with ButtBuster in his name, so no matter what you say, you cannot be taken seriously. You're a clownshoe!

  • Oh well, he still earns more cash than you. That says it all.

  • Yes, I imagine to someone for whom money is everything that would say it all. Run along now and play nice with the other kiddies.

  • Thats all fine and well, but it dosent change the fact that he earns more money than you'll ever earn and he has more respect than you'll ever get.

  • yes, I agree. The interviewer is fucking boring.

  • lol! My Dad & boyfriend go around saying "Christopha!!" all the time! haha!

  • P.S. She threatened to hurt his kid too

  • what do you mean 'he just attacked a fan'? when?

  • He didnt attack him he warned him several times to back off and stay away from him and his wife cause he was annoying him and getting too close you know crowding him. The autograph hound didnt listen so James grabbed him told him to back off but he apologized later and took a photo with him

  • No he didnt used to beat his wife she's full of shit shes just bitter cuz he divorced her she used abuse him thats why he filed for a divorce

  • He should of come on as Tony and said 'what the fuck is your problem'

  • lmfao thats funny shit man

  • James Gandolfini is a great actor but god I hate this programme; it's so hard to get him to interview and then all you do is get him to recite his CV?

  • James Lipton is a huge douche.

  • what makes him a douche? hahah

  • tony is the MAN!!!!!!!!!!
