I have had a z5500 for over an year now. The only negative is that the bass is not loud enough in max settings if u want high bass. You need to change some sound settings on the pc to get the more from the bass !

On the postive note z5500 has power to play any song as loud as you can manage: neighbours will support that argument. They are stylish, bit too heavy imo. For movies/games they are good, for music I wouldnt buy them.
@TasujaOMAB The reason you dont like them for music is because im sure you have a crappy sound card..How you can tell the system has class your able to connect to a highend sound card by optical cable..I find this systems quality is based on the sound card you use and how you connect to the pod..Theres no doubt Creative lab makes the best sound cards
@DWcriticism I dont have basic soundcard and thats a fact. Ok I dont have professional soundcard for music! My scard: Creative Labs X-Fi Fatal1Ty Pro Gamer (has lots of configuration possibilites)- but it is sure decent one to tell difference between good and bad speakers/headphones + I have tried z5500 with coaxial audiocable (via creative digital module). With coaxial cable z5500 surround sound went weaker, sound quality went little bit better (after I still used analog).

Why is z5500 bad? Maybe because they are one of the most expensive PC speaker systems or: 2)bass has lots of distortion; 3)when power goes off you will never know if your z5500 will start again (reasons: fuse burned out, or your controlstand has been broken); 4) I really never got 5.1 work with creative soundcard well;5)satellites are really shit for everything (bass just kills them); 6)Controlstand's screen has blue LCD light which will fade in time.Experience with z5500 during 4years of using.

What you have to do from day 1 when you get the Z-5500 is try to prevent vibration as best as posible..Vibrating in time will just shake the hell out of the inside of your subwoofer & speakers until somthing gives..I find the best way to prevent vibration is 1 use a high quality soundcard using optic cable this prevents disortion and crackling also place your speakers on stands & keep them in a open area this cuts back on vibration big time.
@TasujaOMAB 2...Also extend your wires on your woofer so you can pull the woofer out away from objects this really cuts back on the vibration.When you have ur woofer close to your Pc table or anything it obsorbs the loud sounds & creats vibration so pulling the woofer out lets the loud sound flow into the room cutting back on vibration big time plus in increases the quality of your sound.So over all these tips will make your Z-5500 last alought longer Its even a fact vibration even pops fuses
i just got a Altec lansing Mx5021(70$) for 1 year awsome shit specially for music its beast and with SRS perfect killer then i was liek let me upgrade so i went to Mx6021 and it was shit so altec lansing say keep it as a chirstmas gift lolz? then i bought a z5300 at a flea market for 37$ good shape everything working except control power buttom is there but 98% of time work then i bought a z5500 for 200 dollars

@dgnr8316 The z-680 is one of the worst "high end" Logitechs,the satellites' sound is empty,and all the subwoofer does is excursing without producing any spectacular sound.
Even worse than the z-2300. The best of the logitechs is the z-cinema and the new z-5500 successor,but still bad compared to other systems.

PS. I read a lot of reviews and comparsions, and yea, Z5500 is one of the best of LT, but only for movies/games (i actually bought that for PS3) but for music, they are not good. Not only because of 5.1 (every 5.1 for music sux) but due to their plastic cases.
@dgnr8316 It seem you dont have a clue how to set up this system first of all you should look for a highend sound card that has optical out so your able to connect to your pod by an optical cable then you should never just put your speakers on a table like your PC table.Always put your speakers on stands and never put your subwoofer under your computer table also make sure theres enough cable so you can pull them out, What this does it prevents the sound from being absorbed from object around...

What this does on high volume the objects absorbes the sound causing a distortion & it just shakes the hell out of everything.Pulling your woofer out & placing your speaker on stands give you a better quality sound. also i recommend a good quality sound card with optical out
@dgnr8316 Well i did alought of research on the Z-5500 asked thousands of question & alought of them arn't working anymore & i found it was because of vibration it just shook the hell out of the system so i thought id pass on to fellow gamers.They have this thing they call a vibration damper musicians use them on speakers to cut back on vibration so there equipment will last longer you can buy them or make them yourself i did now when i go full volume the bass dont make the house shake anymore..
@dgnr8316 If you just bought the Z-5500 you should look into buying a vibration damper pad that goes under your subwoofer..What this does it cuts down on the vibration and prolongs the life of your system..I have 2 friends who has the system & now there blowing fuses every second day & its only because of vibration has shaken the crap out of there woofer.
@truebassB I disagree it goes with the Z-680, Z-5500 & the new Z-906 the 3 units are only as good as the soundcard you use..I have a couple friends one with the 5500 & the new 906 & they both ask me why don't there system sound like mine..And its easy there just to cheap to spend 300 dollars on a real good soundcard and when you do make sure it has optical out.

@dgnr8316 I had the Z680's for two years then sold them for the Z-5500 what a mistake because theres no difference at all..Only difference is the 680's pod is more round pose to the more square look of the 5500..Now they have the Z-906 which has droped in quality the same guts but just downsized.

@lior089 Do you know the proper way to set up the Z-5500..i bet you place your speakers on tables and your subwoofer is under your computer table its a known fact to always put your speakers on stands and have enouph cable to your woofer so your able to pull your woofer out when you play your system..what this does also your Pc lasts longer you wouldnt believe the vibration that goes through your Pc in high volume.Iv even seen video cards pop out due to vibration .
The Z-5500 (I have them aswell) might not be a great Home Cinema Set.. but then again it was made and designed for PC usage. Try and find a better speaker set for PC with that budget.. not to mention I got my Z-5500 for €150 new price at that time €375

@potrebnifukec You can check an alternative called Edifier s550,though neither this is anywhere near good compared to what other things can a purist find to have fun,if you are into used things you can get an AV Receiver and a 5.1 Set of Magnat,it's proper equipment on a ground low budget.
If you like new things,Denon has some fancy 5.1 Home Theater Systems that worth mentioning,thought i don't remember their exact starting price.

@TasujaOMA I never made no upload ur mistaken.I also have two systems 5500 in my computer room & the 680's at my cottage i know very well how to set them up and the only problem they ever had was vibration so all my equipment have vibration pads & i dont have my subwoofer under any table or next to a wall i also plug my systems into battery backup its the ultimate surge protection and finally my speaker are all on stands so i have everything covered.And Mortage load Fuck off man i own my home.

i find my Z5500's perfect i dont know about you but when i dont do bass test by putting my sub on full volume because that is a excellent way to blow ur sub.
THe old shitty system I used to have dies a year or so ago, so I bought a Z-2300, as it was hell cheap with an 8" sub. Impressed at first, but the speakers that it came with I stopped using in the first few hours because they sounded flat as hell with no tweeters.
Paired it with a decent panasonic system which sounds damn good for something that's 5 yrs old, and often enough doesn't even need a sub. Ligitech's subs go pretty low for a computer sub, but as far as SQ, it's a computer sub...
for those who wanna buy something good for nearly same price like the z5500 get the Edifier S550, you'll be happy, clear bass, heavy subwoofer with nice low's and deep 10hz... just got mine 5 days ago... im impresseed...
The Z5500's are great speakers, but Logitech did just come out with some new speakers, which I hear sound even better. I have the Z680, and I still love how the speakers and subwoofer sound on it.
Can you tell me what is the difference between the first logitech that you gave up the volume and the other two? I saw her first volume are different because the volume bar is different from small increases to more than others have the same dimensions and

@THESUPERSKULLY There are many other options and bargains you can pick up that will lead you with a system of the same price but able to trip you to other planet's quality.
@pyrodownhiller Definitely something custom made. Have a look at local stores to find something interesting,if you are interested for 5.1 a good choice would be Whatferale or Dali speakers with Yamaha Subwoofer and Denon AV Receiver,for Stereo system hmm maybe Monitor Audio can feat inside a grand.
hi i just bought the new logitech z906 and i'm supper happy with the set but i wanted to connect 2 extra speakers and a subwoofer with the z906.Can you please tell me how to connect them together please.
@1996Dalli Throw the two extra speakers on the front input but be careful,on high volume they can easily overload the amplifier.
The subwoofer can be connected straight to the audio source you use but only if it has an integrated amplifier,otherwise you're taking the risk to connect it to the subwoofer inside the z906 box,some people saying the amplifier works properly with two woofers with 8ohm rated nominal impedance or one with 4ohms nominal impedance,but it's a risk cause it's a logitech.

@1996Dalli You can connect the two speakers on the front outputs of the logitech but it's not that safe,though it will work just fine.
For the subwoofer you should get an amplifier because z906's it's an amplifier made by logitech who knows if it will blow if you put the other woofer on it,but a subwoofer amplifier with proper power output will cost the minimum 150 euros,why don't you just sell those things and spend those 150 euros to get something better?

@1996Dalli Well you can have two amplifier but you can't connect the two amplifiers together,you can have another one to drive the other speakers while the z-906 is as is.
@Ckeiejj It usually makes extremely huge difference but on these i didn't heard anything spectacular,plus the new ones wasn't broken in so they were sounding completely different than a broken in z-5500 (the old one) to judge how big difference padding does on those. :)
My first z5500s set stopped working and got replaced
The back light in my next set of z5500 blew as well but logitech wouldn't help because it was out of warranty.
Same goes for the z 680s i have a set hoooked up to my PC right now but it is the second set the optical channel doesnt work anymore and some times it stops putting out in direct as well. The first set blew left front channel within warranty
@gballus The s750 isn't released yet but it wont really worth its money in my opinion if it's going to cost as much as the rumors are saying (~600 Euros).
Any 5.1 Edifier from those we currently know with the current "Edifier" sound that will cost more than the s550 isn't really a good idea to buy,on the other hand the s550 is one of the best things you can buy at their budget as a new all-in-one multimedia system.
If you are interested for a better system than the s550 consider a custom setup.
@timur50 No i'm not,the one z-5500 and the z680 cost me about 150$,i got a free replacement from logitech cause of the blown screen backlight of the old z-5500,and i got another z-5500 from a bargain,and i had the edifier,all those costed about 350-370$.

There are actually many (in my opinion) better z-5500 competitors,like Teufel,Xoro,etc,the Xoro is the best at its price and beats them all in price/performance and it goes for 130-160 Euros,the z-5500 compared to those worth and should be bought for about 100-120 Euros so you wont feel like you got robbed,but at this price you can only get a used one.

It's a distortion machine after the half and can't be used on boost unless you have the ears into dust,and ProLogic is pseudosurround which ruins the music.

The z-5500 needs a 3.5mm male jack to 3.5mm also male,the 5.1 Edifiers,Teufels,Xoros are needing 2x male rca to dual female and a 3.5mm male to dual rca male,the teufel also has rca inputs and not only usb..
The 2.1 versions of Edifiers are needing nothing,they have second input for other audio source,so it only needs a 3.5mm male to dual rca male which is included.

On the postive note z5500 has power to play any song as loud as you can manage: neighbours will support that argument. They are stylish, bit too heavy imo. For movies/games they are good, for music I wouldnt buy them.

@DWcriticism I dont have basic soundcard and thats a fact. Ok I dont have professional soundcard for music! My scard: Creative Labs X-Fi Fatal1Ty Pro Gamer (has lots of configuration possibilites)- but it is sure decent one to tell difference between good and bad speakers/headphones + I have tried z5500 with coaxial audiocable (via creative digital module). With coaxial cable z5500 surround sound went weaker, sound quality went little bit better (after I still used analog).

Why is z5500 bad? Maybe because they are one of the most expensive PC speaker systems or: 2)bass has lots of distortion; 3)when power goes off you will never know if your z5500 will start again (reasons: fuse burned out, or your controlstand has been broken); 4) I really never got 5.1 work with creative soundcard well;5)satellites are really shit for everything (bass just kills them); 6)Controlstand's screen has blue LCD light which will fade in time.Experience with z5500 during 4years of using.

What you have to do from day 1 when you get the Z-5500 is try to prevent vibration as best as posible..Vibrating in time will just shake the hell out of the inside of your subwoofer & speakers until somthing gives..I find the best way to prevent vibration is 1 use a high quality soundcard using optic cable this prevents disortion and crackling also place your speakers on stands & keep them in a open area this cuts back on vibration big time.

@TasujaOMAB 2...Also extend your wires on your woofer so you can pull the woofer out away from objects this really cuts back on the vibration.When you have ur woofer close to your Pc table or anything it obsorbs the loud sounds & creats vibration so pulling the woofer out lets the loud sound flow into the room cutting back on vibration big time plus in increases the quality of your sound.So over all these tips will make your Z-5500 last alought longer Its even a fact vibration even pops fuses

@dgnr8316 The z-680 is one of the worst "high end" Logitechs,the satellites' sound is empty,and all the subwoofer does is excursing without producing any spectacular sound.
Even worse than the z-2300. The best of the logitechs is the z-cinema and the new z-5500 successor,but still bad compared to other systems.

PS. I read a lot of reviews and comparsions, and yea, Z5500 is one of the best of LT, but only for movies/games (i actually bought that for PS3) but for music, they are not good. Not only because of 5.1 (every 5.1 for music sux) but due to their plastic cases.

@dgnr8316 It seem you dont have a clue how to set up this system first of all you should look for a highend sound card that has optical out so your able to connect to your pod by an optical cable then you should never just put your speakers on a table like your PC table.Always put your speakers on stands and never put your subwoofer under your computer table also make sure theres enough cable so you can pull them out, What this does it prevents the sound from being absorbed from object around...

What this does on high volume the objects absorbes the sound causing a distortion & it just shakes the hell out of everything.Pulling your woofer out & placing your speaker on stands give you a better quality sound. also i recommend a good quality sound card with optical out

@truebassB I disagree it goes with the Z-680, Z-5500 & the new Z-906 the 3 units are only as good as the soundcard you use..I have a couple friends one with the 5500 & the new 906 & they both ask me why don't there system sound like mine..And its easy there just to cheap to spend 300 dollars on a real good soundcard and when you do make sure it has optical out.

The Z-5500 (I have them aswell) might not be a great Home Cinema Set.. but then again it was made and designed for PC usage. Try and find a better speaker set for PC with that budget.. not to mention I got my Z-5500 for €150 new price at that time €375

@potrebnifukec You can check an alternative called Edifier s550,though neither this is anywhere near good compared to what other things can a purist find to have fun,if you are into used things you can get an AV Receiver and a 5.1 Set of Magnat,it's proper equipment on a ground low budget.
If you like new things,Denon has some fancy 5.1 Home Theater Systems that worth mentioning,thought i don't remember their exact starting price.

THe old shitty system I used to have dies a year or so ago, so I bought a Z-2300, as it was hell cheap with an 8" sub. Impressed at first, but the speakers that it came with I stopped using in the first few hours because they sounded flat as hell with no tweeters.
Paired it with a decent panasonic system which sounds damn good for something that's 5 yrs old, and often enough doesn't even need a sub. Ligitech's subs go pretty low for a computer sub, but as far as SQ, it's a computer sub...

@1996Dalli Throw the two extra speakers on the front input but be careful,on high volume they can easily overload the amplifier.
The subwoofer can be connected straight to the audio source you use but only if it has an integrated amplifier,otherwise you're taking the risk to connect it to the subwoofer inside the z906 box,some people saying the amplifier works properly with two woofers with 8ohm rated nominal impedance or one with 4ohms nominal impedance,but it's a risk cause it's a logitech.

@1996Dalli You can connect the two speakers on the front outputs of the logitech but it's not that safe,though it will work just fine.
For the subwoofer you should get an amplifier because z906's it's an amplifier made by logitech who knows if it will blow if you put the other woofer on it,but a subwoofer amplifier with proper power output will cost the minimum 150 euros,why don't you just sell those things and spend those 150 euros to get something better?

@Ckeiejj It usually makes extremely huge difference but on these i didn't heard anything spectacular,plus the new ones wasn't broken in so they were sounding completely different than a broken in z-5500 (the old one) to judge how big difference padding does on those. :)

Logi tech are not built to last
My first z5500s set stopped working and got replaced
The back light in my next set of z5500 blew as well but logitech wouldn't help because it was out of warranty.
Same goes for the z 680s i have a set hoooked up to my PC right now but it is the second set the optical channel doesnt work anymore and some times it stops putting out in direct as well. The first set blew left front channel within warranty

@gballus The s750 isn't released yet but it wont really worth its money in my opinion if it's going to cost as much as the rumors are saying (~600 Euros).
Any 5.1 Edifier from those we currently know with the current "Edifier" sound that will cost more than the s550 isn't really a good idea to buy,on the other hand the s550 is one of the best things you can buy at their budget as a new all-in-one multimedia system.
If you are interested for a better system than the s550 consider a custom setup.

@timur50 No i'm not,the one z-5500 and the z680 cost me about 150$,i got a free replacement from logitech cause of the blown screen backlight of the old z-5500,and i got another z-5500 from a bargain,and i had the edifier,all those costed about 350-370$.

@timur50 Between the z-5500 and Edifier,even at their price neither,but you said pc speakers only,so i'd pick the Edifier.
There are actually many (in my opinion) better z-5500 competitors,like Teufel,Xoro,etc,the Xoro is the best at its price and beats them all in price/performance and it goes for 130-160 Euros,the z-5500 compared to those worth and should be bought for about 100-120 Euros so you wont feel like you got robbed,but at this price you can only get a used one.

It's a distortion machine after the half and can't be used on boost unless you have the ears into dust,and ProLogic is pseudosurround which ruins the music.

@truebassB im saying u should use this boost because the sound won't change into some weird stuff, it just stays clear like it should (gamers or only people who listen to music or whatever ur gonna use ur speakers for)and Dolby PLII music is a better channel if u use ur z-5500 for music only on that moment but you have a point... 6ch direct is more for gaming like all speakers same volume but with PLII music ur center will blow ur ears off ^^ in my opinion buy the z-5500 :D Logitech (Y)

@truebassB I seriously doubt that teufel conecpt c's are just as good as z5500. also because im going to set it up to my ipod very often. Conecpt c's have usb not 3.5mm And you cant get them them in my country, so its going to be send from germany.

@JRprodz You can connect everything that outputs audio to everything.
The z-5500 needs a 3.5mm male jack to 3.5mm also male,the 5.1 Edifiers,Teufels,Xoros are needing 2x male rca to dual female and a 3.5mm male to dual rca male,the teufel also has rca inputs and not only usb..
The 2.1 versions of Edifiers are needing nothing,they have second input for other audio source,so it only needs a 3.5mm male to dual rca male which is included.
