thanks for the video. I'm going to attempt to prepare baby octopus today. I'm kind of nervous about it. I'm hoping what I'm getting has already been cleaned but I did watch a few videos on cleaning them if they haven't been done already. I like your recipe and am going to try it.
in spain they soak them in white wine, garlic, spices, and stock then cook low and slow for hours and either eat them when finished or in their favourite dishes!
@onasre I did enjoy the octopus. I think my first bite, I was critical of how I did, so wondering if I could do better, but it was good. I do think I used a little too much lime, or my limes were too sweet.
I don't remember exactly how long I cooked it. 10 to 20 minutes. You want it to just become tender. It will cook faster if you cut it into pieces instead of keeping the tentacles connected like I did.
@Readysetowned I guess the ink is already removed when he bought it. With squid, people use the ink to make the squid stew or something. dont worry, the ink is in a bag thing, lol
@Readysetowned You have to remove the whole bag with coution not to brake it and release the ink. I will see if i can post a video showing how it is done.

Here's a trick 4 U pal...
Toss them in seasoned flour, dip in egg/milk(seasoned too) then in fine cornmeal...
Deep fry at 175* for about 1.5-2 min, or until it floats and turns a nice golden brown.
Drain excess oil on a tee towel or newspaper and rat it with tarter sauce or cocktail sauce.
U'll NEVER eat squid(calamari) again!!! Unless u can't get octopus.
Trust me on this folks,it's fan fukkin tastic!!! specially the legs!!!

Does it taste something like calamare? :D
mousedrag 1 year ago
@mousedrag It's not dissimilar to calamari, though that's usually served battered and fried, and not marinated. Similar texture though.

how much did the octopi cost u per pound i want to know how much it will cost me thanx.
capital16fighter 2 years ago 2
I believe you can find baby octopus for about $6/lb depending on where you shop. A pound has 12-15 baby octopi, so this was half a pound I cooked.

I'm new to the whole cooking of octopus, what about the ink inside of it? What do you do about the ink? how do you remove it?
Readysetowned 3 years ago 7
I bought them already prepared, though a quick online search leads to some step by step cleaning guides that should help you out.

They had a big one - I just wouldn't know what to do with a big octopus - it'd be too much food. Even my half pound of baby octopi was a lot.
I've had smoked octopus. It's good too... You should try it one time.

Looks delicious!!!! Where did you get your octopus?
