Nice Vid....I used it as a basis to plan my first multi-day trip that I completed a few weeks ago. All went well as I used ALL of the trip mission planning prerequisits. (Mission planning liquid made it all come together!)
hi bill great vids again Well ive finaly sorted the next trip im over in the states in july for a 6 week trip coast to coast and back just route planning at the mo and saving as much cash as pos bought new bullet cam so hopefully should get better quality this time take care ride safe mick
Thanks TJ, I'm sure I'll hit Europe someday, I have a feeling the race is between me and Dan who crosses the ocean first =) either way, it would be awesome..
will do lol, it'll be a used one though, where i'm going its varying between -12 to -20 and i'll be outside doing water and soil surveys bbbrrrrrrrrrrr
Thanks for this series, Billy, great tips, great info, even though you're focused on US, obviously. But your methods can be extrapolated easily. Time for a By way Of European Tour :) think about it. Epic stuff...
nope indeed, I have my trusty steed of another finer breed :)
Now that we are here and no one's listening, I've been chasing some good deal on a used VFR interceptor for a while. It's been always my fav all-round bike, but you're forbidden to tell anyone! ;)
brilliant video Billy, you seem to have that greenscreen sorted perfectly, great tips in there :)
i have plenty of vision, some money, it's that time thing that causes me a problem...
you hinted towards yours and busa's 2010 plans, whats your departure date approx ? i seriously can't wait for this one if its what you mentioned a few months back :D
Alaska is still on the table, but Tracy might be running into some time/money issues because he is getting married pretty soon. I also made that "We're going to Alaska" video before my knee injury, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to ride this summer, but I want to 100% before trying something that daunting..so we are playing it by ear right now..we will going on a huge ride, if nothing more than to get some new ink on the chicken =)
Dude. HELLS yeah. You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to that. Not as much as I'm looking forward to seeing my girls. It's almost beating out Tracy, hahaha. :)
HEY! I saw that! I see the pecking order. Girls > Beer > Tracy...We may have to stop at the nearest restaurant for grub and beer as soon as I pick you up at the airport..LOL
I think it goes "Girls, Beer, Fire Sauce, new socks, cable tv, best buy reward zone points, that twisty thing that keeps my bread fresh, belly button lint and then Tracy." Hahaha
I would love to take a trip somewhere on the bike ... of course I'd build up to it .... but time never seems to be on my side :(
Can't wait for the next part .... maybe I'll plan a trip just for the fun of it and see if I can't make it come true lol .... or maybe I can get fired from work and I'd have all the time in the world ....
Good man, this vid is spot on. Might I also recomend that you mention bikers get some road side brake down cover just in case... I was on a trip with my house mate like just over a week ago and his bike decided to bite it around 360 miles in and he didn't have any cover... Icy roads and temps dropping to minus 6... We spent the night sitting in a bus shelter waiting for somebody to come and pick us up haha...
Got a brand new Pirelli Angel rear, wondering where it is going to roll.
I highly recommend the Cal coast ride and other Oregon type stuff. Did it a few months back and am going back for certain like this year too. The Cal coast alone is over a thousand miles of nothing but a rally. The Leggett to Hardy section is absolutely psycho. Look it up on google maps
Great video Billy, although you are specific about the U.S., the tips you give are exactly the same for Europe and I would imagine any road trip. I am well advanced with my planning for the PCH trip. In fact I think the planning of it is nearly as good as the ride.
That's really nice of you to say..I actually felt a little guilty for being so US specific (if I check my insight, I actually have a tiny bit more European viewers than I do American, it's not much, 1/2 a percent..but still) so I thank you for the comment..
Haha, pure genius dude, this had me thinking that I should make some can footage with the sole intent of folks messing the the greenscreen..aka "whos line is it anyways" that would be hilarious, I wonder how many folks in vloggerland would know how to use the chromakey effect in their editing software..my hamster wheels are turning..
Ehh man! You really inspired me for traveling on bike :) I have found few books, about cool places in Latvia, so I can think now and mark on map, where to go and what to see. Don't know how about video recording yet, but I will try to do my best to get cam-recorder and make series ;)
Three Days Austin, three days at time..if you plan too far you will get all your addresses and reservations confused plus your plans can change in heart beat...but 3 days out is good comfort zone
Usually we get reservations for the next three days via computer. We can't reserve the entire trip because too many unknowns happen that can change your course, but three days is a safe bet
Cip, if you're not staying in a major city, your odds of just walking in and getting a room are good. We have done that before. Typically, what we do now is make reservations for that night that morning before we leave. We decide how far we want to go, find a hotel there, and book it before we depart.
Good tips as always Billy (and Tracy). My recent trip took nearly 2 months to plan and fine tune the route/stops etc. Most of the planning time was taken up researching the places I would be filming , and writing notes (script) for the vlog.
Great vid. I noticed 4:30 that you planed to go up I95 to I26 in South Carolina. as a former Charleston resident I recommend a trip to Charleston, and see the USS Yorktown air craft carrier.
That planning footage was about two years ago, I ended up doing that ride solo without trace, we are heading northwest next summer. but I'll definitely look it up next time I'm that way..
Showing some scruff there Billy, have you been indoors too long? Patiently waiting for Part 3, Budgeting, which is a topic I'll be covering in my next vid as well...
goood vid....and about time some one made a vid about trip planning, im planing a trip from toronto to anchorage, if everything goes well, im flying to magadan, than riding into china.....basicly a reverse long way round
Have you seen Long Way Round?! I just finished watching it.
Those guys had tons of trouble and they had a huge crew with them. If you do it, make sure you film it and if you make it out alive I'll be looking forward to seeing it! I just subbed just incase you ever do it. :)
video is great and all, but i don't plan my motorcylce trip.I just get on my motorcycle and drive =)

Mmm... beer. It's too bad the military hasn't deemed it mandatory for mission planning... I think all missions would go much better if we did. :)
Good stuff as always, Billy. Great info to share with folks, and even I learned a thing or two. :)
