I'm the 200th liked. Do I win Guitar? If so, Make it a bass guitar. But seriously Chris, you are awesome,Like Vai,Satch, and Eric Johnson all rapped into one,yet totally new. I really dig it man. Peace & Love.
I got the cd on Christmas.........I think its great and I like the music alot........My one grip is that I dont know if the drums were programmed or its real drums.......there is a hi-hat or splash that makes a "jung"......(@ 48 & 50 seconds 1:08, 1:11, 1:14, 1:23 twice & 1:26 twice)....sound......it's very unbearable on headphones to me............have to listen through house speakers.......I cant explaine it......................it is however a great cd regardless.
Just when you think that you've heard the most dexterious and rapid playing you stumble on someone even more amazing. I must say though that this is not a mere pyrotechnical display....it is intelligent playing and harmonically sophisticated...thanks for the inspiring post!
Hey man i just discovered your music and got your cd. Let me just say, amazing playing. You've got chops and your own style. Also i think it's really cool that you still take the time out to write back to people's comments. I have one question though, i don't know a lot about music theory but what scale is that quick lick from 1:01 to 1:04 in? It's hits my ears justtt right!. Keep doing what you're doing man. Can't wait for the new album.
@TheAlteredTuning Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate your support. The lick you refer to is just made of up notes from the Bm7 and Gmaj7 chords over the Em in the backing which gives it a more hip sound than just playing the notes of Em.
Wow mate what else can i say other than amazing and TASTEFUL!! So many shredders just let fly and don't give a shit about melody but you slayed hard while keeping beauty in the music. Really really nice job mate!
Ah OK I see, well i really like your music, because it's what I like to hear, and in fact, I write very similarly to you. I just love progressive metal and I strive to be a tad bit different than most prog bands, by mixing styles of lots genres like fusion and even bluegrass. Any new material from you? Iv'e only heard The Master Plan lol
@slapbaZZ No. I was given their "V" album around 2003/2004, but I'd already recorded this album at the time and had been playing this way several years before that. I'm always moving through sounds and vibes but this was a good representation of where I was at in the day. Check out the live version I uploaded also!
@chrisbrooksmusic I've hung out with Holdsworth recently & Id like ta know what you think of him & are you influenced by him or anyone else? To me, I even hear Rush & some Dream Theater in your playing.
@vgraham44 Allan is the best of the best. Ya, I had a DT kick, or moreso, a LTE phase... great stuff. No so much into anything past 1996 from them. CB
Been listening to the CD for the last week and it's fantastic! It's a great mix of interesting progressive stuff but still with enough hooks that you can enjoy the songs from the first listen through without having to listen through five times. Great harmonies and melodies, and plenty of variety.
I came back to watch again - they say one needs 5000 hours to become a perfectionist at anything but it seems you doubled that! Mate you took your gift and gave it focus and bleeding finger structure - now your effortlessness is a magic - you created that path of least resistance for yourself - and boy does it show - and that's exactly why you are so good to watch and listen too! Thank you Chris!
Nice chops. Some Lane in there and some Greg Howe for sure. Perhaps a touch of Vinnie Moore also. Only part I didn't like was the part from 2:19 to 2:22. It was totally non-melodic and didn't add anything to the song even in terms of speed or chops. It sounded to me like it was just pasted in from a Shawn Lane exercise. Apart from that one section, I give it 5 stars.
Thanks for the feedback! Not much of a Lane guy RIP but I have heaps of respect for he and Greg. Vinnie is the man. Good pick there. I should buy a Howe or Lane album one of these days. Not sure why I haven't before.
The bit you didn't like was just an on the fly symmetrical thing... not everyone's cup of tea and not even mine to a great degree. The album lick was better. Check it out. CB
Yeah, Lane did a lot of physically symmetrical stuff which doesn't lend itself to staying very melodic and I felt his music suffered for it. The entire tune here was great but that ascending pattern of diminished just sort of stopped me like wha? why'd he blow the awesome melodic sense suddenly? :) heheh But I'm picky like that. Yeah, now that I listen again, it's definitely got more Moore than Lane or prob Howe but a couple of things reminded me of them. Whole tone.. Howe does that some.
Hey Chris, I bought your album (after it being on my wanted list for quite some time) this Saturday. I have been playing it over and over on my computer. It is truly a work of art and I wish you the best on recording of your new album. Needless to say, I'm watching out for it.
Thanks so much! The CD sales really help me get the next one out. It's a bloody expensive exercise trying to make this next one a world-class release! CB
I just bought the album from iTunes. It's Great to see you getting some video exposure. I have followed alot of guitar player over the years...from Tony McAlpine to George Lynth to Yngview M. as well as my favorite John P...and you sir are in their ranks. Keep it up!!!
This entire album is extremely good. chops are good, but the phrasing, oh the phrasing. speed aint good if you aint got the phrasing, and yes hes got both.
His melodies really sing, and all the songs are incredibly memorable.
Tales from a distant sky, is by far some of the best melodic playing I have ever heard..
Love it Chris, very melodic, good composition, not just a flurry of notes like many guitarists out there, you know when to show off and don;t over do it though the whole song, very very nice indeed

Thanks for the words! I spent years on alternate picking but these days I have many ideas that suit hybrid and economy picking.
