German half track were much better than the american ones cause of the armoured box the men were in but it did have very weak armour in the engine area that GIs soon found out that either a good rifle grenade shot or bazooka hit would stop it and the crew could be finished off with grenades
@2brokenbones no the armured box like american one isn't good against rifle normal round were stopped but armour piercing perforate (us soldier in combat use only AP rounds black tipped) anyway is good for grenade fragment long shot blast
Working on a model of one of these beauties for my animation class in Maya. Truly a magnificent machine... such scale, such efficiency of design. Regardless of the politics of the Third Reich, one cannot help but respect the magnificent equipment their designers produced during the period.
I would love to hear what the crews that used these vehicles thought of them during the war.
Actually there are a few more. Kevin Wheatcroft, Paul Bouille, the Le Loup collection, Dresden Military Musuem, BWB Koblenz and I am sure a few others.
@myhuxpo Ha ha your milage is really bad with a FAMO, it had a range of 260 kilometres (160 mi) (road) 100 kilometres (62 mi) (cross-country) could carry 290 litres (77 US gal) and has a Maybach 12-cylinder, water-cooled HL 108 petrol
270 horsepower (270 PS) engine. And at 18 tonnes weight that is no light weight!
over 60 years old... AND still working... I love these Half-track-MONSTERS....

Great document; it's pity there is no engine sound.

I think this may be the Famo owned by Kevin Wheatcroft in the Kevin Wheatcroft Collection at Donnington Park

@Tiberiotertio Ooo, thanks for the info.. It's funny when the fueltank has a larger capacity than the range in km... :)
myhuxpo 1 year ago
@myhuxpo Well The FAMO was not really built for range but for towing strenght. It was seen as a work horse.
