  • Why so many arguments about filming or not? There is a diff between poor taste and good. The video was edited to show only what was respectful to show. You did not see the victim except when packaged and with a mask on so the person cannot be easily identified. Some people would post the severed leg under the dash type stuff and this can be used for education for future fire fighters. He did not sensationalize it with cheesy comments like TV does.

  • That's what you call a technical rescue. Great job guys.

  • i love how calm and professionally everyone is working. its the right way to do it.

  • wow-they had a time cutting it up to get to him.every situation brings different problems for them-good job!

  • Hydraulic spreaders are awesome!!!

  • That's pretty amazing, I have seen a few people in the front right seat (driver in oz) die with this mechanism.

  • ouch

  • Drunk people always survive the ones you least expect .....

  • how did he survive and how is not dead???

  • how did that guy survive??? how is he not dead???

  • i am truly amazed..he legs looked like they should've been crushed or severed right off...when i see drunk people living thru horrific accdents having their cars ripped in half.i wish that would happen to the victims that they would survive..its not fair and happens way too much...

  • the lightpole is like "cant touch this"

  • the media is not bound by HIPAA laws...they are free to post what they please...while some may think it's disrespectful to post pictures of dead or injured, it is in no way illegal

  • very lucky... how long extrication take sure it took awhile with that kinda damage. good video

  • wow thats fin crazy

  • way to be in the hot zone without proper ppe

  • Being an photography major who speaicalizes in intimate photography and film. I have no problem with him documenting this, and in fact, is very well done to show that needs to be shown.

When I see this work, I don't just think about the crash. I think about the people involved, the families, the people who saved him, the time spent, the money involved in clean up, the teamwork and harsh reminder of people who drive like asshole who pay the price.

Well done sir, your work is fine by me.

  • @Anime4lyfe also a great training aid to other departments. we see how we can handle this kinda accident and gives us a general idea on how we should start the extracation. no accident is the same but it gives us an idea on where to start.

  • @Anime4lyfe Well said. I think about the same things - and it IS a good reminder for silly drivers.

  • If he was drunk fuck him.

  • That is one lucky person to have a team of people there to save there life. Wow, someone was watching over this person.

  • Does Rio Hondo college still have their fire academy at the Sante Fe Springs Fire Dept training center?

  • Ok. Im fine with the film, it is a great film. But to video tape the patient then put it on the internet is just wrong. Come on man have some respect for the man.

  • @LanCoJr Why not put him on camera? This way people can see the faces of death and the reality of drunk driving.

  • @Declethor: Still you should not put the face of the dead or injured on camera. One, for respect of himself and his family, and two, because as i recall without permission of the family or the person to show his face on the internet is illegal.

  • @LanCoJr

It's only "illegal" if you profit from it.

No profit to be made on youtube, so not illegal.

Besides, this is the job of a photojournalist.

    Look into it.

In your world, anyone shown on the news needs to sign a release form?

    Please...

  • @LanCoJr nope, it's legal if it is on public property...unless your an emergency service worker.

  • @LanCoJr No need for it, it's not disrespectful. Life sucks, we do it we see it if you dont like it dont watch it

  • Did they cut the seat knuckle there? Or just cut the roof and extricate?

  • Wouldn't you love to take the jaws of life to some asshole's truck who took up the last 2 parking spaces at the mall by line straddling 'cause he didn't want his new truck scratched only to come out and find the top of the cab sitting in the bed.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahaha that would be sooo sweet. Actually tho, I'm going to be a bitch. haha, its not the jaws of life, you would have to use the cutters to get the roof off. the jaws of life spreads. lol

  • @jonasbrothersisfags Not really, the Jaws of life can be a combi-tool as well. Genius.

  • Comment removed

  • @ten8goa nope, i'd like to save someone's life with them. Maybe do the right thing for once.

  • was that guy drunk or something to survive that??? *looks up* oh, that explains a lot.

  • Wow that looks hardcore!!!

  • i didn't hear anyone calling Rampart. lol

  • they did not hold c spine the way way they should have someone had it to put a collar on then just let go i guess i know for a fact u have to hold c spine until the patient is boarded with! head blocks only then can u let go unless the patient refuses care

  • Man those medics are chubby! johnny and roy would have done a better job lol

  • No phone pole ever hit a car unless it was Self Defense!

  • LOL.....Great line. I`ll have to remember that one...

  • Yet another idiot teenager driver showing off for his buddies.

  • or it could be an idiot adult showing off to his friends. Why do you have to be so rude. Not all teens are bad people. Lets see. You play video games, therefore you're a nerd who doesn't shower. Now do you get my point. Lets not be stereotypical.

  • Honda + tinted windows + fancy ass rims + late at night = GUESS.

  • hey buddy. im a firefighter/first responder. we have around 20 teen related accidents a year, whereas accidents caused by people 40+ get into the 80 and 100 range annually. Most are caused by legal age drinkers becoming Drunks or older folks not having as quick transition time between their steering wheels and the cell phones that they're chatting away on. But, regardless, an accident involving any age is one accident too many.

  • i was in a severe MVA when a girl ran a stop sign and rammed right into me. I went rolling knocked down an electric pole and a service pole this happened on Oct.14,2008. All I have to say is im thankful my crash wasn't like this

  • Wow, glad you're okay man

  • First of all pvtstorm....your lying ahaha there is no way in hell you way 98 pounds there is a weight requirement that you have to meet and it goes by height so if you 6'2 lke myself you can weight 140-210 i believe thats for LA city which i work for..im on my brother youtube account

  • Why do they so many mistakes???

Using jaws and spreader before breaking all glasses?? Did someone look what the victim´s head done when they took her out? It's a trauma victim. Always suspect of neck and brain damages.

And I'm just a firefighter from a small county with 5.000 residents, here in Portugal.

Everybody makes mistakes but they could kill the victim.

  • Really i have been in search and rescue for a while and the main thing i do is car crashes when it comes down to it you cant make a mistake i mean looking at it they did take things off alittle rough and they should have cleard people out and left a couple of people there but in the long run it got the guy out theres rules to follow but what i like to say there guide lines because you got to do what you got to do to get someone out

  • My friend, yes, you have to get the victim out. But, the way they've done, they where doing it wrong. Was the car starting to burn? No. Was necessary to take her out to start CPR? No.

So, it was better for them to loose 5 or 10 minutes and take her out in a better way.

    That's what I would do.

I hope they've seen these video in the debreefing and learn with the mistakes. That's how we learn.

    Do you agree?

  • Just because the car isn't on fire doesn't mean the victim doesn't need to be extricated promptly. I work for a fire dept that receives the most calls for extrication's in New England. You don't know if the victim needed to be expedited because of blood loss, how do you know they didn't have a limb severed? It doesn't look like they have enough room to put on a tourniquet. You cant be text book on every call either, I think they did an exceptional job on that extrication.

  • Drinking beer is a very common hobby of EMS personnel. It goes with the job. That steady consumption of beer leads to a belly.

  • Freeking honda!!!

  • Okay, to respond to the "hefty people" comments. The main reason is the life style of working EMS. Most career EMS Personnel, at least the ones in my city, get to work, check in, and they are in tbe bus the rest of the night and are dispatched from the road. There is no time to make a healthy meal, they have to eat something quick that fills the gut so they can be ready to respond at a moments notice. The easiesty food to satisfy this is fast food, which doesn't help with the diet.

  • I wanted to respond, to the comment made by BoneheadNW. I am an EMT with an ambulance company that responds with the la county fire department not the one shown in the video but another. It is true many ambulance personnel are on the "hefty side" but those are the personnel that are most likely not trying to get hired by a fire department. They are most likely staying in the ambulance business for life.

  • Excellent video. Very nice shot of the speedometer against the pole. DUI caused it but saved his ass!

  • GREAT FOOTAGE!

  • No disrespect intended, but why does it seem that a high percentage of ambulance personnel are on the "hefty" side? Seems to be true across the U.S.

    Bonehead

  • I agree and have wondered the same thing many times. I am interested in getting into the EMS field, but people have mentioned to me how it's mostly "big" guys who do it. Who knows...

  • That's not true. I weigh 98, and I'm a firefighter. You don't have to be big to do the job.

  • Wow... that guy is lucky to be alive. By the looks of the car at the end... I'm suprised they werent just pulling out body parts. That was incredible... thanks for posting.
