why are the cars and bikes when they are in initial testing phase all covered in black tapes and looking ugly??? is it not to reveal to cameras or is it coz they do the body work in final stages...???
@bhooowan3 Yes, it is to protect it from spy fotos as much as possible during the test phase. They mostly put the 'camoflauge' on the "curves" and bends of the bike that way the camera canot really make out the shape of the bike and they can still 'surprise' the world later on. At least mostly surprise - or surprise a little bit. Plus you don't want your competitors getting any more information on your bike/car.
@herculesinleathers i think you must have a lot of riding impresion to take a tour of this panigale1199. in some ducati rider's in superbike also take a change to their rider skill in their bike to make their bike faster.
Having tried the last generation of Ducati I did notice the steering being heavy but this is always going to differ greatly from a middleweight four's agility but, this again was last generation. I for one look forward to trying the bike that (apparently) will change the way we look at twins and would certainly not compare it to previous bikes in any format. If we compared all bikes to the cbr600rr we would all have to suffer gutless, friendly middleweights and would never experience any REAL
Coming from someone who has ridden my share of brakes I'll say this:
The 1198 should not be compared to the panigale as they are designed very differently. In fact, the only similarities it is meant to have is the fact that it's a twin (anyone who knows or owns twins knows the torque characteristics and are usually quite fond of the predictable drive from low revs, especially compared to a four cylinder), the badge and the colour.
Having tried the last generation of Ducati I did notice the stee
I'm sorry to be posting this on the Ducati video, but if you don't believe me, please test ride the two bikes for yourself. I used to think Ducati's were awesome soley based on what I read from the reviews. But It's simply not true. They are fun to look at and admire their beauty. But that is about it. There's no practicality in owing one. IMHO I think it's a complete waste of your money. Any appreciation for this bike totally disappeared after test riding their flagship moto 1198.
The 1198 actually is a RACE bike; not some random street bike like the japs. This bike is very predictable; you just need to understand that it WILL translate EVERY input you make. With other words: learn how to ride!
If you're a beginner, I would strongly urge you to stay away from the Ducati. Because you'll always be so damn cautious because the POS is so unpredictable, you won't have any fun riding it. On the other hand, I've written all the 600cc JAP bikes and BMW S1000RR and they are much more fun to ride and easier to manuever. For less money you could have so much more fun on other bikes than the Ducati.
Also it was not at all confidence inspiring. As a matter of fact, I wanted to get off of the damn thing as soon as I got on it. The bike did not seem stable like some of the reviews claim; "riding on a rail" phrase is totally bogus. Also It is extremely hard to turn with this bike. At about 70MPH it required amount of force equivalent to turning my CBR600RR at 130MPH. Something about the Ducati just made me feel very uneasy and uncomfortable.
IMHO, Ducati 1198 is NOT AT ALL street friendly. It simply had too much initial torque and I felt very uncomfortable making turns at the intersection because the bike just wants to go fast and that's all. Again, this is subjective, but I'm sure majority of people think that Ducati makes incredible bikes soley based on their appearance. But if you ever rode one and compared it to BMW or the Jap bikes, I'm sure you'll agree that Ducati is nothing but a big hype.
And then, I rode the Ducati 1198 (I heard that a 1199 is going to be totally different from a 1198, but then how different can it be?). When I first got on the bike, everything felt out of place. I felt like I was in an unfamiliar territory. The bike felt heavy, stiff, and unfriendly. It felt as if the bike could not tolerate an inch of operator error. The throttle response is jerky, almost felt like there's too much torque and it was hard to keep it smooth.
It fact, it was so comfortable and rider friendly, I soon forgot that I was riding a liter bike. The throttle response was smooth and gradual. Handling is precise, easy to maneuver, and everything was so predictable about this bike. It is totally confidence inspiring even more so than my CBR600RR. This bike is incredibly powerful, but the funny thing is, all that power seem so manageable.
If there's people out there looking at this video because they are debating whether they should get a BWM S1000RR or Ducati 1199S and have not test ridden neither bikes, here's my two cents. Coming from a 600cc, I was quite intimidated to test ride a liter bike for the first time. When I sat on the BMW it felt just like my CBR600RR.
I wish they made a 600cc or 799cc whatever of this one.. This is too much to just drive for fun.. I'd be speeding on the highway all day. Not that a smaller engine would prevent me from doing that :P
@motorcycleronin I might agree with this... The gp12 bike has gone aluminum deltabox style... My 01 R1 had a deltabox 2 frame... Lol... Ducati will get it right though... Rossi and hopefully Nicky will be on the podium this year...
Looks beautiful but leaned over, this bike's chassis proved impossible for even the godlike Valentino Rossi to master in MotoGP. Most bikes have an aluminum twin-spar or double wishbone frame that allows sideways flex. At full lean, the bike twists to deal with bumps. For better airflow, weight dist and chassis tuning, Ducati's monocoque design eliminated the frame. The result is an unreadable chassis. I would not buy this bike. Its fundamental flaw makes it dangerous for its intended use.
@motorcycleronin fucks sake fuck off your posting dickhead comments everywhere. obviously you know better than a triple wsb champ and company with decades of racing experience.
Lmfao, "Allows the rider to ride nicely and safely" then they show a guy pulling a wheelie at what looks like more than 100kph :) gotta love Ducati. They know whats bad ass and whats sup.
Come on Troy! I wanna see you back on track riding this bike like a bitch towards another WSBK title! You know you want it. Retirement is so boring! Come back, WSBK is so dull without you.
Looking it over at the cycle show and could not yet see much to hop up on it.. It has a compression relief system to allow for a lighter starter and battery. On my older Duc I went from a 11.5 lb Yusa YB16 battery to a 2lb Shorai batter that cranks just as hard. Won't be losing 9lb with a battery change on this one. Maybe 5 lbs by going to a 1 lb Shorai? I suppose some more power and a further weight reduction could come from whatever full exhaust system Akrapovic or Termignoni develop.
@chaosexpanding @3:40 it is a prototype bike.. Notice all the tape and other assorted camouflage on some of the shots. Real R&D bike footage not a production model. It could be paint or oil. Does not matter as that particular bike was built to develop and work out any issues before going into production. BTW.. I have two bikes. My '06 Suzuki leaked at bad from one gasket at 8,000 miles another at 10,000 and the '00 ducati only leaked a dribble from a sensor that was easily replaced.
callin it now Panigale vs. EBR 1190RS yes they are different bikes one a production race bike and the other a limited edition racer for the street, but with similiar weights 390lbs vs. 375lbs and similiar power 196hp vs 185hp it would be an amazing showdown.
Rossi already HAS a competitive bike. Stoner won many many races on that bike AGAINST Rossi, Lorenzo, Pedrosa etc etc. The problem is Rossi. He is not as good as Stoner. Rossi will never win another MotoGP race. Ducati's only hope is to lure Bayliss out of retirement and back to MotoGP or pay Stoner what he's worth (more than Rossi) and get him back.
@MotoGPatrick Well you can't calve a piece of wood properly with blunt tools, Both rider and tool are as important but when tools are very close then the rider is allways most important, and this sounds like some tool. I own an 1198s and I definately want a test ride. The motogp isn't yet built right but this machine and Ducati knowing Twins with help from Rossi's riding feedback, plus Troys feedback is going to be the ultimate bike this year, I believe anyway. :) More than well done Ducati
@MotoGPatrick Thats how it looks, Casey is a fantastic rider too and his young and hungry. What your probably find is the bike suited Caseys riding style and not to mention all the other bikes were not as good as they are now. Rossi couldn't get on with it so he tried changing it. The engine was made slower but still no joy with chasis. Were have to wait until Ducati have got their act sorted with mass centralisation and new design till we truely know if Rossi can compete with Stoner.
@MotoGPatrick I personally believe alot of the bike riding is about feeling comfortable and as one with the machine. We are all different, I mean not everyone does the best with the same mouse on a game. I think its what you get on with. The Honda definately did the work last year with bike. Lets hope all the bikes are competative for 2012. I like Casey but would like to see Rossi win again. Maybe its just casey can ride more out of shape than anyone else. Best wishes to them all.
Damn you ducati, you with this awesomely magnificent bike, making it impossible for me to even consider or look at other bikes, they all seem so primitive and 5 years ago now, damn you i say
@KOSKESH43 except that the MV was around before the 1198 so if anything the 1198 is an MV wanna be. But to be fair they are two different bikes, the 1198 is a track ready SBK, were the MV is a purely street uber-expensive work of art.
@Qnickel27 I heard that MV is hard to ride and That's what i heard cuz they say it's massively Fast and fells very heavy. but in I'm opinion they are both sick bikes and sexy but I would go for the 1198SP cuz it got the quickShifter and it sound amazing! MV sounds like a Jap bike and we hear it every day so that what I hate the MV. it's a expensive and a different bike so it have to look different and sound different. which one would you go for?
Ernestos heavily accented English with that Aussie twang is just hilarious! If they didnt put the subtitles you wouldnt understand what he said half the time lol
@brealsoul I haven't ridden either so not really one to comment, maybe the paper stats on the Panigale are better, but every single review I see says the BMW is ahead by a long shot, and these are really experienced riders.
