We have dust storms here, like you see in the films of the "Dirty Thirties" but they're grey........almost black. That red that you have adds a freakier element to the disastrous condition.

It was red because the Australian Desert is red... as the sun started to rise it glowed Red. Nothing to analize. Just the way it is in Australia.

I see reflective particles in the sky on days where there are no "dust storms" so why wouldn't I be curios to see if any material had gathered in the dust?

OMG, is that why it went red??? I do know what colour the desert is, and It certainly shouldn't have reflective particles in it as it is sand, the exact same kind of sand I use in my Pythons enclosure.

That must have been frightening for you. Many people didn't notice, but here in the Uk, in the summer of 2006, around about 4 or 5am we had that same colour lighting up the whole place. Most missed it because they were asleep - but I saw it. strangely, there were no reports of it, but the next day there were news reports of electrical items suddenly breaking down. My phone stopped working overnight too and never worked again since. I dont know what caused the sky colour here.

Uk truthseeker, if you research hard enough, you might find reports of something similar (minus the storm) in the summer of 2006 here in the UK. I saw it with my own eyes - thought I was dreaming at first. It was around 4 or 5am too, so many people were asleep and missed it. My phone suddenly stopped working during all of it so I couldn't get any photos. I only know one person who also saw it. He said it was a sandstorm, but I don't recall it being windy? maybe it was? I was indoors.

There's heaps of red dust on my balcony, I picked some up with a damp tissue and let the sun reflect of it, I could see sparkles all through the dust. Like fine reflective particles, I picked up some sand as well but this did not reflect the sunlight, strange?
