If the skeeters did not get to you the oppressive heat and humidity would. Players would take insect repellant out to their positions and on one hot Houston Sunday afternoon in 1962, 80 some fans were treated for heat exhaustion. Soon after the Colt 45s permitted to play Sunday night games (a first for MLB). Rusty Staub was the up and coming star of the Colt 45's and I did witness the MLB debut of Hall of Famer Joe Morgan on 9/21/63 in the presence of 2,000 other fans.
ken78a I remember the mosquitos and the heat with the humidity at old Colt .45 Stadium. Me and my dad spent a many miserable days there, but the memories are priceless. One of the funniest things we ever saw there was a a black man tried to catch a foul ball with his straw hat and the ball went through it, everyone just burst out laughing and for just a moment we all forgot about all the heat and humidity.
Wouldn't play for me....but went to Colt Stadium just before the Dome was built. Yup, hot day lol
