I'm an American who's been a fan of British humor since the Monty Python days. Long enough to understand a lot of the slang and references. I love the shows like HIGNFY, Mock the Week, 8 out of 10 Cats, The Peep Show, QI. When I attempt to share these shows with my friends they often just looked confused and say things like "I don't even know what the fuck they're talking about". lol

All my favorite comedians are UK's, Frankie Boyle, Dara o'Brien, David Carr, David Mitchell. Thanks for sharing.

I follow English football pretty closely and hang out at a club's fansite (which is where I first learnt of these), so "British" humour is something to which I'm exposed pretty much every day.

I can't say that I get it entirely, but the juxtapositions and random interjections are hilarious to any speaker of the language, and some of it is modified imported Americanisms ("That's, like, so not what you need in your life right now"/"Talk to the guns, 'cos the cockpit ain't list'nin!" etc.). LOLz

But this would be mostly inside humo(u)r and I don't think most would get it, just as it would be difficult for you guys to discern the different American accents and the implications thereof... There have been skits in America deriving laughs from this very situation (unexpected accents), so it doesn't reflect on the general ability to get a good joke :)
