I used to play this song on Sunday mornings.. as I put on my Alpinestar leathers to rail my Kawasaki ZX6rr Ninja thru the twisties.. this song danced thru my brain over and over..then Id scream the Ninja up over 140 mph..and it made me happy as fuck...
I remember listening to this song over and over on my dads old kenwood record player back when I was kid (I'm 23 now). The pops and cracks just added to the already wonderful experience. I always told my parents I would trade our generations in a heartbeat.
Thank heaven for the Sixth Form Common Room at Spondon School, Derby. In 1975 I heard much of Modern Times and in my first year of college, 1976, in Hudderesfield I saw Al on the Old Grey Whistle Test playing "year of the cat." Loved him since and went into his back catalogue buying "Past Present Future" and "Orange" and "The Early Years." What a great artist. As far as I'm concerned he introduces a new music genre of rock folk. I also saw him perform live in Red Bank, NJ USA and 'twas great
Ahhh, yes --- was very much in the mood for this one, tonight! Thank you, Enrique! I'm curious about something, though --- which release of "Modern Times" is this album cover from? My copy has he familiar "Great Gatsby" cover, with the Cord 810 (and my *vinyl* copy has that amazing "hood shot" of the Cord, where the entire engine-cover with exposed pipes looks like *one* monstrous "cylinder", a work of art in and of itself :-) ). I think "my" cover is "standard US" --- where's this one from? :-)
@cherimelodie Whoever searches for quality music sooner or later ends up with Al Stewart...besides that Al is a historical encyclopedia which is a fact that I personally appreciate!
Oh, Thank you so much! I heard this on the radio once years ago, and never again since. I'd looked for it on Youtube before, but found nothing other than live recordings , usually with poor sound.

Yes, it is too fast -- but only by a tad.
And I'm thrilled to find it here at all, so I'm gonna stfu about that, and just thank you, enriquevicsaa, for posting it here.
Wouldn't call it my very favorite AS track (tough call between "Last Day of June 1934" and the masterpiece "Roads to Moscow"), but it's up there.

It is definitely a tad too fast. I played Modern Times to death! Al can really paint a picture with his song-writing. Thanks for this great post!

Most underrated artist of all time. And this isn't opinion, he really is.

@sunonthewindow Thanks for stating the case strongly and succinctly: it is TRUTH. And trust me, we are out there in complete agreement with you.
