  • LOVE !

  • Freedom sucks without God and love for one another. When will we learn?

  • The Hooters hit #38 in Billboard, 5-24-86. Only stayed in the top 40, 1 week. Patty Smyth sang backup on it. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • @DaveWollenberg In the Top 40 for only a week?? That's a crime. This song is AWESOME>

  • This i think is one of the best songs the Hooters made...gotta love the 80s music.....

  • Gotta be the best song they made..the 80,s rock....miss the 80's so damn much!!!!!

  • who is the deadly piper that leads them away?

  • Good God! I used to love this song and forgot all about it!! so glad I found, thanks for posting this!!!!

  • such an under rated band,i just love them.

  • What a great song and fkn A a Pennsylvania band from Philly!!!!!!! Reckon this has the overtones of the "pied Piper of Hamlin...

  • What a great song and fkn A a Pennsylvania band from Philly!!!!!!!

  • my favorite of all time, ty Hooters (yeh used to sing my babies to sleep w this 1, and any chance I can today still :)

  • This was my theme song when I was a lonely, depressed teenager.

  • great song --- going to goog some Joan Osborne now --- Hooters became her backin' band.................

  • Lyrically, I can't figure out if this is happy or sad. Can someone explain the "meaning" of this beautiful song?

  • @NYtoTX

  • @ziggmon8861 huh?

  • @ziggmon8861

I was a runaway at the age of 14. I relate to this song because of the words it speaks. I'm going to go to where noone can find us. Who found me was a guy that sold me just for a place to live. "And if there's a heaven I'll find it some day". I believe this song is for me and so many of my brothers and sisters that are where they are because of who they think they want to be. We runaway and and we go to "where no one can find us". But we all wanted to be found

  • Where there is good, evil is near to take it away. for now. Time is short for evil. Final assaut soon . Be on your gaurd.

  • really how the hell can you not like this song its great

  • For someone my age...this song like so many from that time really does show what real music is all about. No studio touch-ups to make the artist sound better, just REAL music.

  • nobody hears the music, only the echo of a hollow sound :) where do the children go? while castles are falling down, if there is a heaven, we will find it somehow? this song always moves me

  • EPIC!!!!! How the hell do you dislike this song???????

  • thanx for upload... thanx for music...

  • I just love how the guitar comes in at the 2 minute mark. This song builds nicely! Very well produced and written. I love this band!

  • yeah were do the children go,where.........

  • hooter = means? i like smart sounderfully adjusted band name -a person or thing that hoots, esp a car horn

    2. Slang a nose they r modest in just giving a hoot as a bird shy to know it sound louder but melody mixed with the sound of humankindwonders in meaning is outlouded not hootered

  • @TheJullie20ro Hooters is a nickname for the melodica, a type of keyboard harmonica.

  • This is a really great song.....

  • First time I heard the song, back in the day, it was a favorite. Still one of the most under-rated IMO.

  • Somebody please post a video with mandolin fingering for this song.

  • slow and steady <33 good song

  • I have been wondering who the woman singing on this track was for the last 20+ years lol.Thankyou commenters

  • Patty Smyth for scandal

  • merci pour "the hooters"

    Two friends from France!

    Lain et Manuela

  • Very beautiful and powerful song. Truely a fav of mine from these guys...and Patty Smyth was a good addition on harmonies...

  • Except for a brief mention on the album, it's too bad that Patty didn't get any label recognition for this record. What I also deplore is that while the single said it ran 5:29 the true time was about 4:00. I still have that single in my collection, but I have since got the CD.

  • It reminds me from me and my brother as kids then he met his wife. she took him from us. I thougt we would get a sister or my parants would get a daughter 5th comandment. honor your uknow shes a me person now hes gone forever

  • robsg689 and suessefledermaus71, you're both correct.

  • Great song!!Brings back alot of childhood memories.

  • I remember the tune and era well.

  • One of the best songs ever. Funny though, how it can mean so many different things to different people. I always thought it was about the loss of a child's innocence as the grow up. Hooters are definitely way under-rated. And Patty Smyth has always been my fav.

  • Totally agree! That is how songs should be....

  • This song is about an fairytale from Germany. It was said that in the Middleage an piperman safed the town "Hameln" from hundred of rats. He leads the animals out of the towm, they were following the music of his pipe. But the people of Hameln refused to pay the piperman for leading the rats out of town. In the following night all children followed the music of the piperman and dissapeared....

  • I think you know too much I think your involved some how great analigy.

  • It's Patti Smyth on background vocals

  • Thanks. FWIW, It would've been a great backup vocal either way, no?

  • Das ist richtig Churchmouse; Very good! The hooters are from close by me in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Ich habe sie gesehen, dieses Phasen Lied zu tun; es war groß!

  • Beautiful song about a sensitive subject

  • Great song!!..Fond memories!. Thanks!!!!

  • Is that Cyndi Lauper on background vocals?

  • It's Patti Smyth

  • although Rob Hyman did co-write Time After Time with Cyndi...

  • Great song...thanks coaster and youtube.

  • Thanks highcoaster, this song gives me chills, its so fuckin good

  • People need something to belive in....

  • nice song

  • Youre right in every way, guitarjoe.

God will never leave us alone and he always will take care of us. Believe and trust, - and you will never go down.

  • It's all about faith people. I lost my daughter in November, 2006 and it hurts in a big way, but God didn't take her, it was just an accident. I'll never, ever forsake my God again because I know that he's never left my side. Read 1 Corinthians 10:13 where the Bible tells us that we're never given anything that isn't "common to man". He won't give us anything we can't handle. Please don't turn away from God, in your sorrow is when you need him most. He always loves you no matter what.

  • Can you say "ironic?" The very evening after I wrote the previous post, my nephew, Rob, died from a heroin overdose. Sweet Jesus please have mercy on his soul and give him the peace he struggled so hard to achieve. I love you buddy. You won't ever be forgotten. Uncle

  • ((((Guitarjoe)))) So very sorry for your tragic loss. Without God to hold onto , and He onto us,in a time like this, what else is there? For the others here~~The good Lord never promised that life would be easy, but absolutely promises to be there to hold us up when we feel we just can`t stand on our own sorrows~but, only if we allow Him. He will never barge into one`s life, but simply knocks on the door, waiting to be let inside. You are loved, in every way, just as you are.

  • Not really trying to start a religious rant here.. I respect others' beliefs, but those with no belief think thay can just run rough-shod all over those with beliefs.. If you don't believe, fine, but shut up already. We who believe simply include our beliefs in what we say in situations as this. Those who don't believe, have no beliefs to include in such instances and should simply state their sympathy, and not make every occurence a time to state their disbelief.. Peace to all mankind.

  • listening to this song and thinking about my little boy that may go anyday, i wander how people stll believe in god?

  • :( Sorry to hear about your situation.

And to answer, nearly a year on from both my parent's deaths, no god has eased my pain. I have no idea, my friend, how anyone can have faith under such circumstances.

  • My brother's suicide at 24 put the final nail in my religious coffin.

Far better to acknowledge that life is just what it is, than to believe that these things are the plan of a ''loving'' god. Sorry for your loss, Guzzi.

And surfer, you are going through the worst thing a person can suffer. I don't know you, but I feel your pain. [But I will not be saying a prayer for you.]

  • I Love This Song!!

  • touch your shoulder, Dangurt.

  • I thik of my wife whom I miss very much. She is my angel . Angels fly away :(

  • I always thought the song was about teens and drug abuse

  • I guess its about love and the loss of that playfulness and curiousness that we have as children.. most of us loose this through the educational system and coorporate media. Lets bring back the children :)

  • Does anybody know the true meaning of this fantastic song?

  • In my teen years, I grew up with this kind of songs. The Hooters remained in my heart forever because of their beautiful music. Love this band and their songs so much.

  • I've heard the version you're referring to with Patti Smythe--the harmonies on this song is actually sung by Eric

  • I have being canoeing in Sweden, summer, this year.

Sitting there in the lake, deep in the

night (water) listening to this great song,

with the big moon over me.

I think, this was a night, I will never forget.

Probably the people in their tents who wanted

    to sleep, too.

    Hooters forever!

  • After all these years... I thought no one remembered who the Hooters were. And I still have the 45. What happened Philadelphia ?

  • I saw the Hooters back in about 1986 when they opened for Brian Adams. They were one of the best bands I've ever seen. I actually had (still have) their first two ALBUMS and played this song to death. Got a couple of CD's to upgrade the albums. This song is one of thier best songs. They have a unique sound. I think they released a new cd this year, last year. BTW, if I remember this is Patty Smythe helping on vocals.

  • another nice job girlie!
