(*Note: I'm a Flutie fan.) Considering how small he was, it's pretty incredible that Flutie never got seriously injured at any time during his career.
@bjchit Last I checked, nobody is going around calling Vince Young an NFL legend... Flutie doesn't deserve this conversation on youtube, let alone recognition for his personification of average.
No, but he has been to two pro bowls and a rookie of the year in spite of the fact his career QB Rating is 70. Flutie got the Bills to the playoffs twice and they haven't been back since. It's not his fault coaches are idiots.
@bjchit LOL, Doug Flutie was NEVER rookie of the year and the Pro Bowl is a fan-voted honor, consistent with his overrated status amongst the fans. The Bills have not won a playoff game since Jim Kelly in the 1995 Wild Card. Flutie was only clutch in early-season games and was useless come the big, late-season games. People forget that he was cut after sucking in December 2000... oh, and then he led the Chargers to a 5-11 record in 2001. LEGENDDD
Vince Young was. Learn to read before you ready an insult against somebody. That decison to start Rob Johnson in Flutie's stead might've had something to do with it. I don't know why Buffalo's front office had a hard on for him, since he was medicore and was more interested in surfing than playing football. And the guy who cut Flutie lasted less then 5 years as a result of many piss poor moves like that one. They were also a year removed from taking over a 1-15 team, not exactly the best sitch.
@bjchit Good job of talking about two people and identifying them with "him." The team Johnson inherited was awful too, due in part to Flutie splitting the team over being benched. He was the ultimate non-team player who felt it more important to throw hissy fits to Sports Illustrated behind Johnson's back than to do his job and help Johnson mature as a player. He was cut because he was pushing 40 and regressing as a player, and on the way out, took a talented team down with him. Class act.
I was talking about Vince Young before I ever mentioned Flutie, and and I used their names before I said "him". Guy leads a team to the playoffs twice and is benched for a back-up who'd done nothing to distinguish himself and Flutie's upset? Shocker. It wasn't exactly Marv Levey and Bill Polian running the team, so most of the Bills personal decisions during that time are a little suspect. So trying to blame Flutie for the Bills sucking while he wasn't playing is BS.
@bjchit Johnson picked apart Indy's starting defense the week before, that's why he started. Flutie destroyed the 2000 team by stirring the pot non-stop. He decided that he was more important than the team, and it cost him his job. There's the side of Flutie no Bills fans talk about! Over a decade of NFL experience and a 0-1 playoff record? Rob Johnson helped win a playoff game en route to a Super Bowl Ring in 2002 while Flutie was once again riding the pine where he belonged.
When they were half assed playing haveing already gotten a first round bye at 13-2? That's just bad management if that's why he was starting a playoff game. How was it Flutie's fault that the defense was in the bottem half of the league, or that they couldn't hold onto a lead to save their lives? He also won the Grey Cup 3 times, which I know is the CFL, but when actually given a chance, he could win in the postseason. He might've won this game if it wasn't for Trace Armstrong's hit here.
@bjchit LOL he was given a chance in the playoffs and the video above was the result. He fumbled and the Bills lost... he could win in the postseason when the best player in that league wasn't good enough for the NFL. Johnson won his playoff game, and then the special teams blew it. Johnson didn't fumble on the last drive like Flutie did the year before - he got the team down the field - with one shoe - and set up what should have been the game-winning field goal.
21 36 58.3% 360 1 1 90.0. That's Flutie's stat line in the game, and if it wasn't for Miami making a goal line stand at the end, this game would've gone into overtime. Well that's what happens when Trace Armstrong comes in totally unblocked. 10 22 131 0 0. Yea, that's really winning it for them. He even got sacked for a safety. The Bills defense was winning the game for them. No, he just stood around totally indeceisive and got sacked at least once on nearly every drive.
@bjchit In other words, Flutie played well until he choked on the last drive, and Johnson kept the Bills competetive against a much, much better defense than Miami had the year before in the Tennessee Titans, and then led Buffalo to what should have been the game-winning FG with one shoe on. Weird how you can phrase it favorably either way. Kinda doesn't disprove that Flutie is an overrated asshole.
In other words, he played real well until a defensive lineman twice his size blindsided him. Peyton Manning would have trouble if something like that happened. Miami was ranked number 1 in the league that year, while Tennesee was in the middle of the pack. Now you're just outright lying. Why do you have such a hard on for hating Flutie?

@bjchit LOL, so pocket awareness is not a QB's responsibility? Cool story bro. That's supposed to be his strong suit, and yet it was his downfall in the most important game he ever played. Oh, and when Jevon Kearse blind-sided Rob Johnson in the Tennessee game, that was somehow Rob's fault, right? Hypocrisy causes wrinkles, so be careful.
I'm hating Flutie because he's regarded as a legend in some circles and that is a huge joke.
Well Rob, I've already said he came in unblocked, so pocket awareness goes out the window when that happens. It wasn't the most important he ever played, but whatever. Well it depends on how long you held onto the ball. You did get the name Robo-sack for a reason. Because you're bitter that Buffalo loves him and not you?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@bjchit You can actually SEE Armstrong get blocked initially in the clip, and he came in from Doug's right side, which, for a right-handed QB, is NOT his blind side.
The only NFL game he ever played = his most important game. The CFL = an NFL reject league and we all know it... and guess who has a Super Bowl ring between Flutie and Johnson? blahahaha u maddd?
I would hardly call Thurmas Thompson getting thrown to the ground like a small child putting up a block. He got hit from behind. For every creature but an owl that is a blind spot. Well I guess Flutie will just have to use his Heisman trophy and Grey Cups to wipe away his tears of bitterness. No, but I do wonder what kind of douche sits around one video and says a guy sucks for months at a time.
@bjchit LMAO @ "Thurman Thompson"... between that and thinking Flutie's right side is his "blind side," you clearly know very little about that which you speak. I wonder what kind of douche tries to defend an overrated player for no apparent reason - u maddddddd LMAO
Yea, I got the guys name a little mixed up at 2 in the morning, my bad. And it doesn't matter if it was his right side, he still got pegged from behind. No, you're just clearly an asshole, who's done nothing to prove I'm wrong in that assessment. Well maybe it's because he's a stand up guy who's a better football player then you give him credit for who's done more with his life then you ever will you ignorant dick suck.
@bjchit blahahahaha if someone rushing on his NON-blind side hit him from behind, its on Flutie for losing his bearings in the pocket... special players make special plays at special times. Flutie stood flat-footed and was unaware of his surroundings when the pressure was on...and yes, let's go THERE, let's be the people the compare lives on youtube to deflect from the argument - that Flutie never won a playoff game and is NOT an NFL legend. U madddddddd LMFAO "dick suck?" blahahahahahha
Since you're an asshole, this is going to be the last thing I send you. Who was the guy who threw the most famous Hail Mary in all of football? Oh that's right, it was Flutie. I'm sure he wasn't looking for someone to get open, no, he wasn't doing that. You were the one who was trying to portray Flutie as some asshole who's never done anything in his life. It's sounds like to me you're projecting to be honest. He is a legend. Just because you can't accept doesn't mean he isn't.
He would've done better then Johnson in the Music City Miracle too. And Johnson had as much to do with the Bucs Super Bowl run as much as Shaun King did.
He was also 4-1 in games he started, and had 3 games of a qb rating 95 or higher in December, so he wasn't cut for "sucking" at the end of his Buffalo career.
Bills should have won this game, Andre Reed was given an awful penalty and they took away his touchdown because of it. Everyone forgets about this game because of what happened the following year with the Music City Miracle Bullshit. How bout Scott Norwood missing the game winning super bowl kick? This is the greatest heartbreak franchise in the history of all sports. I can't believe all the trouble they've caused this area....
That looked like an incomplete pass. Too bad they didn't have replay that year.
Rob Johnson (Robo-Sack) was one of the biggest flops in Buffalo Bills history. Wade Phillips has done one of the worst coaching moves in NFL history by benching Flutie and starting Robo-Sack in the '99 NFL playoffs. The Bills have never made the playoffs since that game and Wade Phillips has never won a playoff game in his NFL coaching career.
Remember that was the infamous "just give it to him game" when the patriots wide reciever was clearly out of bounds and no wheres close to the 1st down marker on fourth down. that game was definitly fixed.
