  • I wish I knew this was possible beforehand but it's my fault I didn't. I would have taken the time to do it. To JayGatsbyOdysseus. It may have been "classified" as a flop by the MSM but I say it is a classic. Terminator anyone?

  • Comment removed

  • I am Joe Stalin.

  • I heard the movie was a big flop. So, get rid of the bullshit philosophy. No one is buying it so this means it should die, right?

  • I am John Galt. On the DVD 2:44. tie die t-shirt

  • I am John Galt. 15:18 bottom right corner. Statue of Liberty shirt.

  • I... Am John Galt.

  • I am John Galt

  • I am John Galt. OMG misspelled

  • I am john golt.

  • ahahahahah good job wasting millions white people

  • watch?v=M7c-Ei7btbI

  • My answer, I would take a giant bender all over Ayn Rand's bones.

  • @organicorganics so go do it

  • Scenario, part 3

Yet you know that you have just enough time to get outside to evacuate your bowels in a nearby blackberry bush. What do you do? Take the biggest bender of your life over the Earthly remains of Ayn Rand in comfort and privacy, or jump into the black berry bush and try your luck?

  • Scenario, part 2

You rush as fast as you can to the outhouse, open the door and rush in. You are surprised to find that the outhouse is rather clean, unusually so for an outhouse and rather pleasant smelling, and then you spot a sign right next to the toilet paper dispenser. The sign reads, "Below you in the hole lies the cleaned and polished bones of Ayn Rand, famed author." You are surprised by what you read, but regardless of your surprise you still need to defecate.

  • Scenario, part 1

You have been hiking for hours along an unfamiliar trail, when suddenly you feel the stirrings of what is possibly the most unpleasant bowel movement you will ever experience. You continue further down the trail trying to find a comfy looking out of the way spot to relieve yourself, unfortunately you can't seem to find a spot that isn't occupied by some variety of thorny vegetation. Luckily during your desperate search, you happen to spot an outhouse in the distance.

  • Can I be John Galt if I receive welfare?

  • I AM SPARTACUS

  • If I pointed at my finger, you'd look at the moon... I am John Galt - you are just another exploiting for the sake of exploitation.

  • @HelloSatanHere

You're an idiot. See what I did there??? It's completely "rational" for me to say that. It is not, however, completely LOGICAL for me to say that. We need to teach LOGIC in K-12. In fact, it should be the ONLY subject taught (Art students get an exemption). THEN, and ONLY THEN will we see any kind of positive change.

  • All the fans here arguing with the detractors illustrate perfectly why objectivism can never be put successfully into practice. Is it rational to argue and insult someone whose opinion you can never change? No. Rationality is central to objectivism, if someone can't see how irrational it is to be slinging insults on the net then how can we know that such a person is actually operating rationally on even a partial basis?

  • @HelloSatanHere I do believe, as Ayn Rand said, that reason doesn't work on those who are not open to it. That said, I do find it in my own rational self-interest to argue with those who worship Unreason. Allow me to explain. There are those who are guided primarily by reason; on the other hand, there some, in fact many, who have devoted their lives to the worship of unreason. Then, there are everyone else: those who vascillated amongst varying degrees of reason and unreason.

  • @HelloSatanHere (Continued) Those who vascillate amongst varying degreess of reason and unreason, have implicitly some amount of respect for reason. It is this group with whom rational discussion and therefore rational persuasion is possible and therefore with whom reasoned argumentation is possible and with whom it can be achieved. But what rational self-interest could there be for the individual in trying to reason with those who are not open to it--i.e., who worship unreason? (Continued)

  • @HelloSatanHere (Continued) Even with one committed to unreason, there is a rational self-interest in argumenting with him. I dislike such people very much. It is in my rational-self interest to see these people get discouraged and frustrated so as to fade quietly (but more likely kicking a screaming) into obscurity and irrelevence and to see their ideas die once and for all. (Continued)

  • (Cont.) I take the following approach: I give them a quick, damning slap across the face with reality and reason to temporarily stun them and to create in them the further psychological chaos of having to evade another aspect of reality. Then, as tactfully as possible I let them know that they are philosophically retarded. Finally, I essentially cram it in their faces that I advocate reality, reason, rational-self interest, and true laissez-faire capitalism and individual rights. (Cont.)

  • (Cont.) We cannot change the worshippers of unreason to being guided by reason. But we can let them know that they are epistemologically, morally, and philosophically bankrupt; that there are those of us who are not; that they don't stand a chance because we're going to hammer their crazy-ass nonsense into the ground and eventually into something between the laughable and oblivion.

  • good job there..sweet!

  • haha fucking FAIL MOVIE!!!!

  • Poo

  • "i hate poors, minorities, AND women! yay!" - everyone who responds

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you.

  • The answer of course, is to give such a limited amount of power to the government - spoken of by the greatest of the Founders of this Nation, so that dirty businesses and politicians have nothing to abuse in the first place. Remember that simplicity is always where the Truth resides... Reason, Peace and Love.

  • Does this make sense? A true laissez faire, capitalist country would never use the government services (Police, Armed Forces and Courts) for the benefit of some and the hindrance of others!! That is NOT Capitalism! It is more like Fascism, and that is what most people today THINK is Capitalism. Fascism gives the sense of ownership, except where it goes against the interest of the State (read crooked lobbyists and pull-peddlers and BAD businesses in bed with politicians).

  • Ayn Rand was truly neither Conservative nor Liberal (nor Libertarian). She was a believer in freedom of the mind. That means to be left alone to your own thoughts and actions, both in the one's personal life, and in one's financial/economic life.

Even when the masses want to, no single person may have his rights infringed. Rights are not given by the government - they are protected by the government. It cannot, in a true laissez-faire environment, benefit one entity while hindering another

  • This younger know-it-all generation never experienced the history that previous generations did. They have little idea that these short term gains will cause long term pains. Many of these public school boys just do not think, so others will give them their thoughts. That is why they will be the generation most likely to destroy this country or start the next world war.

  • But you're asking people to give of their time and effort with no reward or gain for themselves.

    What gives?

  • @fodsaks You apparently do not understand. Free trade is not just for money or some short term high, it is for something that both participants value. Otherwise why trade?

  • Hahahaha! Worst. Movie. Ever.

More proof that conservatives have absolutely no artistic or intellectual talent.

  • Can we still upload videos? BTW, the movie is great!

  • Hey shill the shill XXX, you droll troll, you! We at the Ministry of Truth and Love will be rounding you up soon for your voluntary mandatory re-education sessions. Remember "A Clockwork Orange"? That was us too! So glad you agree that Mein Kampf (My Battle) was VALUABLE. Spelling is one of the things we will work on during your re-education. Your "humble opinion" is very important to us, please stay on the line until our next available agent can send 12000 volts down your internet connection.

  • @bearhandalienman "A Clockwork Orange" was already declared out-dated by my family by the time the movie came out (sadly they hadn't read the book before hand...), but I understand what they meant. Was stimmt mit meinem Deutsch nicht? Wappler! Englisch wird eh aussterben (english will become extinct anyway...) Bussi aus Abendland!!!

  • @shilltheshillXXX This is true. Main Kampf is a very valuable book. It serves as a reminder of what happens when you let a maniac get too powerful.

  • @anthony62490 Thank you. Finally, someone who did not misunderstand that comment. Refreshing... :)

  • @shilltheshillXXX Well, you did phrase that statement badly. It sounded an awful lot like you were calling Ayn Rand useless or comparing her to Hitler. I got you, but just be a bit more careful with your phrasing.

  • Huh. I submitted my video on the 14th. It is now the 22nd. Any idea why it hasn't been processed yet?

  • @anthony62490 How long did it take for your video to get confirmed? Mine has taken over 2 weeks so far.

  • I didn't see this before today. DANG.

    I AM JOHN GALT!

  • darn missed the date. Love the work your doing, keep it up.

  • Which John Galt? The obscure literary character or the historical footnote?

  • Just remember next year (2012) will be OUR LAST CHANCE TO SAVE THIS REPUBLIC! Anyone but Obama - 2012!

  • @Zander4020 I agree with the sentiment, but I said anybody by Hillary and kick myself every day, cause I got what I asked for, even if it wasn't what I wanted... But yeah, if he gets re-elected, its a bad day.

  • mine is not there. that makes me sad.

  • Thank you for accepting my video! ^_^

  • Let's do the math. Right now there are 1616 video responses. At three seconds per response that's a total of almost 81 minutes! Is there really going to be a special feature on the DVD that consists of one person after another saying "I am John Galt" for more than an hour? Given that the movie is only 102 minutes long there is certainly room on the disc for this special feature. What a cool marketing idea!

    John Link

  • Does anyone know if all the video responses will be included on the DVD / Blu Ray?

HUGE MISTAKE TO LEAVE SOME OUT!

This will alienate fans who spent their time and energy to actually create and CONTRIBUTE a video. Excluding them will not only decrease sales but can also affect future box office for parts 2 & 3.

Every penny is needed to successfully finish the trilogy!

Including ALL the "I Am John Galt" contributors will increase DVD/Blu Ray sales - thus helping the entire project.

  • Please include my daughter's video. It was up there, but it was removed. We all went to see it tonight in Honolulu, and although they're young, they understood the basic idea of the movie. The link is: v=4U0f8a224V0

  • Yay! our videos made it on the video responses!! Btw, awesome movie!! Good job guys!

  • We saw the movie yesterday and loved it. The book was a tough read for me years ago because I couldn't imagine any of this stuff really happening. I am sorry for the nastiness in the comments. I'm not an asshole, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and call me one. I've got to get back to work to pay my taxes.

  • @ mvelimir fail you have proved there are assholes across all philosophies. Only a piece piece of shit loser suggest every adherent to a philosophy is a child or an asshole its a good thing asshole is a completely objective term and that being selfish wether good or bad is also as such.

  • People who read Ayn Rand are 16-year olds and assholes. I mean, it's OK to read it to see somebody's views and opinions but to fall for this quasi-philosophy is infantile and shows how people can be extremely selfish.

  • Three times a charm, in uploading...? we will see! :-)

  • I am a fan of Lifetime TV adaptions of simplistic capitalist fantasy. I am a Tea Party moron who fill pay $10 to watch a bad movie so I can feel like I am making a statement.

So, when can I be in your video?

  • Do you accept Norwegian versions: v=v29TVagkiIU

  • Doesn't look like my earlier submission made it. Please include v=FnPEMvk7A1Q

  • I love it! All races, all ages, all genders, all nationalities. Who is John Galt? We are! Saw the film last night. Love it! Going to go see it again. Video review on my page. Great job John Agliagloro and the crew and the cast!

  • I couldn't see my video response. Hopefully, it will get there soon!! Very well made movie, I watched it yesterday - the day it released!

  • Just went through all 1134, I'm not there. Guess I won't be buying the Blu-Ray, lol...........

  • Well, I reposted a response with the .mov format. Maybe this time it will show up... Last one has not shown up from a day ago.

  • Comment removed

  • having trouble with video response ....

  • How about a little more time to do the video response. :)

Nice film by the way! When does 2 come out?

  • was that 11:59 EST or PST?

  • gropen://IMG_0209.MOV

  • I've been avoiding making any comments about the slow approval process as I expected things would work themselves out. However, after three days and having one video approved and another (different people) not approved yet, I'm totally confused. Add to it that people who posted videos today are showing up, but one from days prior aren't. It's very frustrating, especially since the deadline for submission is upon us. I put a lot of work into mine. I hope it is used.

  • I uploaded my son...9 years old, a musician and a great innovator already, stating who he 'is'. Tomorrow, I get to see a film I have been waiting 20 years for. Thank you for making Atlas Shrugged come to life on screen.

  • I cannot recall a movie that I have been to, where the audience cheered and applauded at the end! Usually people leave silently...it was a stirring moving. Well made! I actually never read Atlas Shrugged, however I'm guessing that the movie adaptation was faithfully done overall? I am looking forward to part two .I read somewhere else today, that part two is to be released sometime in December?

  • by the end, i felt wonder. just back from driving 3 hrs each way to see "atlas shrugged" at 12pm premiere - i walked out trembling and elated, and i saw joy on other faces too. a masterful job of adaptation, done against great odds. does the interpretation of rand many favors by adding modulation, human touches, and nuance while not compromising vision, values, or story.

  • We've been waiting for this .....finally....

  • Just got back from the theater. Loved it and can't wait for the sequels!

  • We just saw the film in Columbus, OH. Fantastic. The audience applauded during and after the film. When was the last time that happened. Please hurry with the other parts.

  • I hope my video goes through.

It was so exciting to overhear "Atlas Shrugged" so many times in the parking lot, ticket line, lobby, and restroom! It got a standing ovation!

I also wish more of the back story could have been included, but I wasn't expecting it. I must say I liked their approach to making rail travel relevant today.

I'd love to see "Who is John Galt?" billboards, bridge signs, "graffiti", and FB statuses. I think the uninitiated will leave the movie wanting to read the book.

  • 7:05 show at UCLA, I'm in a great seat, can't wait. The left, the critics, the artistic community, the film community, they will rip it apart in the name of artisitic merit. The things they've already said show that they have a "wikipedia" understanding of Ayn Rand's ideas, and no more. They have neither the attention span nor the will to think premise-free.

  • Movie was excellent. The actors slowly began to breath life into their roles, as the movie progressed. I am only disappointed that so much of the back story could not be included.

The Theater was full and people left with smiles on their faces. :-)

  • RE: VIdeo responses - sometimes You Tube won't recognize the format. I finally used imovie, put it in a different format (.mov) from my camera and it went right through. You can post to You Tube through imovie on the top menu bar (share).

  • We should form a club, guys. I'm still waiting to see mine appear.

  • I just saw the movie. I loved how it followed the first section of the book. The acting started off a little slow, but picked up as the characters developed. I hate so many of the book's great details had to be left out, but what can you do in one hour and forty minutes? I am seeing it again tomorrow, and I can't wait for Part 2!

  • Posted ours this morning and still don't see it listed in the video responses. I tried to do it again and the video isn't in the list to upload again. So, I assume it went. Hopefully.

  • @eyerishangel Same here. Not sure what happened...

  • Do you guys REALLY think the Left doesn't want this movie released? This is going to be the biggest train crash (pun intended) since Battlefield Earth! How do I know? I was "lucky" enough to see a screening of it! Most of the audience (myself included) were pretty jazzed to see the book come to life, but that feeling was quickly dispelled after a decent opening when people started opening their mouths and dialogue began to spill forth! Man, oh, man! Read the book.

  • I am John Galt, too.

  • this is a great idea. I wish I had learned about it soon enough to have participated.

  • Not approved? Wow!

  • I just returned from the first showing in Nashville, TN, which was packed. The 7:30 showing has been sold out for at least a week now.

If you haven't seen it yet, you will NOT be disappointed! :-)

  • I went to the theater on my lunch hour on Tuesday and bought my tickets for tonight. Can't wait!

  • @kyodell: So, a grassroots "collective" is not better than the mindless dolts that follow the herd to see the latest "shiny, glittery" movie from Hollywood?

  • if this movie was truly exceptional it wouldn't need a "collective" of fans to promote it. it would succeed on its own merit and worth.

  • If you want to have some fun with this:

Go to your local hippy/communist/college campus and pay kids $10 a piece to say "I am John Galt" on camera. Imagine how wonderful they'll feel to be a part of this conservative film!

  • I just posted mine on April 15th @4pm. I hope it's still alright despite nearly missing this cool thing.

  • This is a great endeavor. Being from an older generation, my greatest hope is that the 18-35 demographic will see this and be interested enough to read the book. I read it in senior year of high school. I was drawn to the philosophy but, the political drama really meant little to me as we were in a period of relative prosperity. Stephen Moore, columnist from the WSJ said something to the effect 'if you haven't read the book, no matter - you've been living it for the last 3 years'

  • @IncliningArcOfTime Hey darling. I first read Rand in my freshman year of highschool, and studied the philosophy behind it for a year before adopting the title "Objectivist." I tried connecting with other people in my age group and dated a few, but more than half of them dropped the title as time passed.

I met Brook and talked to him briefly twice, and he mentioned that he doesn't feel comfortable calling anyone an Objectivist until they are about forty, but to that - don't tell me the odds.

  • I just posted my Video Response, I hope you will use it... I don't see it listed yet, I will check back later today (in 2 hours)... thanks for this Movie, I hope it wakes some people up!

  • I'm going today. This movie is going to be fluffy awesome (f word awesome).

  • Am so thrilled to see the movie tonight! Can't wait! Date night for my husband and I tonight. Then maybe take the 13 year old later this week.

  • This booked formed who I am today. Tonight I am taking my 9 year old son to watch this very important movie!

  • Critics and naysayers said this film would never be made, never see the light of day. That there was no significant audience willing to see it. Fans said it would be impossible to do justice to Rand's crowning achievement. I always believed it would be made by the right people. Tomorrow afternoon, I will know if I was right.

  • Created my video response. How many do you have so far?

  • So is this Movie coming to Europe? Cannes, maybe?

  • The comments are really getting ugly out there. You have stirred up a hornets' nest. I have gotten alot of crazy comments on my video. People on the far left REALLY don't want this thing to come out. You must be doing something RIGHT. Can't wait to see the movie.

  • I submitted my video, but I didn't see my response yet

  • I submitted my video! I'm new to youtube so I hope I did it right! :|

  • @4limitedgov god....isn't...real. Just like Thor isn't real. Why do you all believe in the new kid so much?

  • I am John Galt

  • @PONGHEADcom Apparently you didn't see the 10/12 user ratings on IMDB

  • I got mine uploaded on April 14 at 11:50. Hopefully that's close enough

  • Comment removed

  • Still not seeing the video I uploaded earlier today. There are more video responses posted. When I go into "My Videos" I see both of my vid's ... but when I try and upload it again it isn't there to upload ... as though it already knows that it has been uploaded, just not approved yet. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Please make sure your “I am John Galt.” video entry is submitted as a Video Comment Response by clicking on the "Create a video response" link located to the right of the comment box.

All video entries go through a manual approval process and as a result may take some time to appear in “Video Responses.”

Also, make sure your video consists only of you, or your group, stating clearly “I am John Galt.” as derivatives may be disapproved.

  • I have uploaded my submission! :)

  • Are you guys gonna let me know if my vid was accepted?

  • i GUESS I WONT BE INCLUDED...DARN IT!

  • This is not the best process, is it? :-) So many questions and no place to find the right answers. I LOVE this book, and I have waited years for someone to make the movie. I really wanted to be on the DVD, but I have had trouble--just like others here have had. I wish there was a way for us to find out if we completed this process correctly...

  • e=player_embedded

  • I cannot tell if my video uploaded or not any suggestions ???

  • Hey, I don't see my video!!!!!

  • @mobyware i can see it now. i think it just takes time

  • I don't think it's a youtube problem, when you go to create your video response, it shows that not only does the video need to be processed but it also needs to be accepted by the creator of the original video. I would give it time.

  • @0xbhindbrighteyesx0 The video is processed. I can link to it just fine. It's when I try to use it as a video response. The video does not show up as being able to select it to use as a response. Meaning it can't even get to a point to be accepted or rejected by the creator of the original video. Does that make sense?

  • @rappy357 Yes, I was running into that problem too, but I didn't make the video like I make my normal videos. I clicked on the "create video response" button and then made the video and saw it get processed by youtube. I can look at it in "my videos" but cannot see it when I go to upload it again. I believe that this is because it is already in the system and waiting to get reviewed by AtlasShruggedPart1 but I might be wrong

  • @0xbhindbrighteyesx0 I made the video with my camcorder edited it a little and then just uploaded it to You Tube. I can see it just fine in my profile and like I said I can link to it. Granted this is the first video I've ever uploaded to YT. When I click create video response it says I have no videos.

  • Last video posted seems to be from April 12th. Maybe YouTube has stopped allowing posts for "internal political" reasons? I'm just sayin' ...

  • Gun Control is just another term used for GUN BANS! YOU WILL NOT GET MY GUN, you can try and pry it out of my cold dead hands if you wish! Obama is the ANTI-CHRIST he will be voted out next year and I CAN'T WAIT!!! Woo Hoo!!!

  • Socialism is the doctrine that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good.

    — Ayn Rand

  • Hummm ... uploaded my video and don't see it coming up. Notice that the number of responses has remained static. Hope this gets fixed, I think it is a great marketing idea!

  • I have tried twice and I dont see my video

  • YouTube seems to be having a bug because I can't even post my video response. The video will not show up to select to even post it. Is there another place I can send this vid?

  • @rappy357 I agree - I submitted one two days ago. I just redid it and hope it sticks this time.

  • This Atlas Shrugged Website is, I am sure, being inundated with video responses and they are all going to be processed eventually. Those who are processing these responses need more time so let us be patient. Best regards, one of your strikers...

  • I must admit it is very frustrating to do a video and three days later still not see it posted.................

  • Hey hey hey Put my video on I've video comented many times now.. Its not the 15 th you people better except my video... It is a good one is no reason not to.

  • I just uploaded my response video, but for some reason that video will not show up to select when I try to post the response. Very frustrating. I'll try again later.

  • When it says no trademark, etc. If my shirt has a logo on it will that disqualify it?

  • I posted my " I Am John Galt" video response yesterday but it's not showing on the video responses page. Anyone know why?

  • My "I Am John Galt" video, once downloaded, is now out of sync with the audio. How can this be corrected? If it cannot be corrected by me, can it be corrected by those who will be compiling these for their DVD?

  • Comment removed

  • Existence exists. And existence must preceed consciousness. A consciousness conscious of nothing (or of nothing but itself) is impossible. Knowledge depends on these axioms. Any contradiction stops the entire possibility of learning. The scientific method would become a dice roll. There could be no solid reason for your car to start in the morning, or your heart continue to beat. A 'Creator' contradicts the axioms. We are still learning about where matter came from, but at least we can learn.

  • After uploading I noticed I uploaded the 12 second version. I can't seem to figure out how to trim a vid once uploaded to Youtube. Found a link to trim using the embed code, but can't figure out how to apply to my vid response. Any thoughts? Hope it will still be used in the DVD, maybe it can be trimmed by the compiler.

  • I wish Rand were alive today to witness how characters and ideas in "Atlas Shrugged" are being appropriated and twisted by people who echo Gordon Gekko ("Greed is good"). Galt and Roark and Dagny were purists who wanted the best. They were avaricious fanatics for whom no amount of profit was enough.

  • He is all of us. We are the ones who need to turn this country around. No more sitting around waiting for things to get better. The time for action is NOW!

  • who the fuck is j. galt damnit?

  • @TactiKoolStuff Read a book, genius.

  • "To live, man must hold three things as the supreme and ruling values of his life: reason, purpose, self-esteem.

"These three values imply and require all of man's virtues, and each of his virtues pertain to the relationship between existence and consciousness: rationality, independence, integrity, honesty, justice, productiveness, pride.

"Are you beginning to see, who is John Galt?"

  • I am John Galt! You are John Galt! Where is John Galt? Who is JohnGalt? John Galt is the walrus! Goo, goo ka choob!

  • I am John Galt!
