I never really got to focus on this area of world history.. But as far as I can remember, the "white folks" purchased the "niggas" from black African slave traders and, reportedly, also Arab slave traders..
But then again, I wasn't there.. So maybe the slavery "survivor" was right, since he had first-hand experience..

@myquill23 If you get into the history of the slave trade, you will find that there were people sold into slavery-however, the concept that Africans had of slavery was entirely different than what the European concept of slavery was. In African culture a person was enslaved for a period of time, then set free and allowed to join the tribe and to become a part of the community. There were also accounts of kidnapping as well.

As much I hate to admit this statement, but Richard Pryor was one of the most significant people in the utilization of that word. By the time he realized that it wasn't right, it was too late. To put the icing on the cake, Hip Hop is the main reason that this word is accepted worldwide in this current society. It took 400 years to get rid of that word, and only 15 to get it back.
