  • Oh,sommo Carlo !

  • magnifico!

  • Well well...

  • I don't know if the Japanese audience understood the message Mr. Bergonzi was sending. COnsidering this was probably the cery last song he sang in this recital, he was basically telling them, "Don't forget me".

  • A wonderful ending... i think we all know it is over... I wish I could have seen the beginning...

  • Superb.TY masacian for posting.

  • Bravo, magnifico fraseo y legato!!!

  • Divino , Sublime Voz !!!! Bravo !!!!!

  • Unforgettable!!!

Jahrhunderts.

  • Wunderbar, was dieser Tenor auch in höherem Alter sang. Einmalig!!

  • Il Grande! Che voce!

  • I agree!

  • What does the title mean? What a song, and what singing. And who wrote it? Is it included in those 24 aria and such books? I would guess no.

  • @Chazzan805 ""Non ti scordar di me""

is a song by Edoardo De Curtis ..It means Don't you forget me ..

  • @marioegorga

    Thanks.

Bravissimo, come sempre.

  • he was not unappreicated, some people even call him overrate.d he did not have the greatest voice of all but the style and musicality was unsurpassed, he was a true artist, bravo!

  • absolutely wonderful!

  • What drugs is the pianist on (or which drugs does he need)? Fine performance from Bergonzi.

  • Bravo Bergonzi!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am always amazed at how little Bergonzi is appreciated. My favorite tenor is Caruso, but Bergonzi is from purely the technical point of view the greatest of all tenors. He doesn't excite me the way that tenors like Caruso or Di Stefano do, but absolutely NOBODY sings better than Bergonzi. His mastery of style and phrasing is phenomenal. Play an aria by any great tenor, then play the same aria by Bergonzi, then play the original tenor again, suddenly the original tenor doesn't sound so good.

  • I, too, love this tenor, but please listen to Bjorling and see if you still think NOBODY is better.

  • Does this also apply to Tito Schipa my friend...Do you think so?

  • Why do people say things like this? Bergonzi was hardly unappreciated. He was the leading Italian tenor in the world for a couple decades. He had all the big recording contracts. He sang at the best theaters and opened the most seasons. He didn't appear in stadiums like Pavarotti or movies like Lanza or TV like Domingo and Carreras but he was appreciated in opera houses everywhere.

A really unappreciated tenor was Dick Kness or Richard Liszt.

  • I could not agree more with you. Carlo Bergonzi is the master. Perfection.

  • @chastenor he was never appreciated too much because in terms of heart and passion and phrasing he was never the best...sorry

  • @fabriou

I tend to agree with you, and disagree with chastenor.

As I listen to Bergonzi's rendition of "Non Ti Scordar di Me" I am not moved the way I am when I hear any number of other singers perform it, including opera stars such as Angela Gheorghiu or pop stars such as Carlo Buti.

Bergonzi fails, in my opinion, to give the song a consistent musical shape that hangs together.

  • He is a GOD....I see someone here who must have bananas in his ear...Peccato.

  • Carlo is a GOD...I guess a person can have bananas in his ears.

  • @MrFriendofopera

My mistake. I thought he was an opera singer.

  • Ummm- Melchoir was magnificent well into his 60's

  • Comment removed

  • pavarotti and melchior were great also giacomo lauri volpi

  • What about Kraus? He was in far better shape than Bergonzi here.

  • mmmm.... and Lauri Volpi? Kraus? Bonisolli? Gedda? PAVAROTTI??? shall i continue?

  • Domingo.

    C.

  • pavarotti was italian and so was bonisolli and laurivolpi. he said non italian and anyway laurivopli and pavarotti sounded terrible past 60. great in their prime though. kraus sounded bad past prime too, though in his prime was fantastic.

  • Sung from the heart to the hearts of the audience - bravo!

  • Bravo --- Bravo

  • Brings back memories. Heard Carlo sing this in Melbourne a long time ago. The audience went crazy. Bravo!

  • I love this man, in every respect

  • you love this man in every aspect you mean

anyway couldn't agree more with ya

  • Bravo, Maestro!!!

  • So lovely grandaddy!

The best version of this song!

What is that order he has on his chest?

  • either "cavaliere di gran croce" or most likely "commendatore".

I am italian but not expert of honourific order.

  • Bravo

  • Indeed, Mr. Bergonzi, we will not forget you! You are the preeminent verdian tenor of the post war era. Bravo!

  • Great artist - perhaps he should have been discouraged (as most of the famous should be!) to do master classes... He is a legend and will remain so.

  • A Legend.. Is so true.. No voice as Tenor Bergonzi. This tradition of singing, a real Belle Canto, that is missing in our days, The beauty of the voice, andthe great refind phrasng, the top notes, the roundness of the voic, a silky velvet.. His voie rounds any note no matter of it's difficulty. Unfortunately people thinks that Opera is screaming more, rather than music a nd musicality and beautiful heart and voice..

    Great Maestro Bergonzi...

  • @critic1998

    Bel Canto!!!

  • @critic1998 this is crap....Bergonzi was technically good but he always missed passion, good accentuation and he always gave the impression of being a bariton being able to simulate tenorial register...for this reason he didn t make it to break through other better tenors like del monaco and di stefano...then in the 60s he was carried forward by stupid critics and he got overestimated....for me he was never a perfect tenor...in the contrary!

  • @fabriou The Bariton Color is what makes his voice warmer, if you think he is only a technique then you missed hearing his voice!! The tenors you mentioned are great as well with different colors 3 different colors make it richer. It is a matter of taste after all!! You can't use the word "Crap" on others thoughts and taste, and why do you think you are smarter than the "stupid critics" using your words!!!!

  • @critic1998 Beautiful comment.

  • Amazing

    Thanks for your posting

  • A wonderful rendition of an immortal encore,

    in the spirit of Gigli.

  • No comment. You're to stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • @maxhansendk Not cowboy songs he doesn't! Ha,ha.

  • Sorry typing error YOUR bad taste!!!!

  • Please don't react to stupid remarks by Maxhansendk. He is offending this superb tenor all the time. Please Maxhansendk go and play Scandinavian folksongs and don't bother us with our bad taste!

  • When reading some of the negative comments about Mr.Bergonzi, an example would be that he is called fat little amateur.I get feeling that Connoisseurs of Mr.Pavarotti's techniques, his mastery of tone and clarity, are being compared to Mr.Bergonzi's abilities; such as, refine phrasing and conspicuous expression. These two singers are from two different schools of operatic singing, also it is known that Mr. Bergonzi is a professional singer starting his career in the late 1930's.

  • He inspired me to sing this song soon, in a farewell party for exchange student here in Japan. thank you maestro!

  • wonderful voice and musicianship!

  • absolutely wonderful bravo maestro

  • After that di Stefano has left us the remaining tenors of importance is Carlo Bergomzi and Nicolai Gedda. This is extraordinary beautiful singing art with great heart and emotion!

  • non a caso è nato vicino a Verdi. Che melodia nella voce! Grande maestro

  • DITE CIò CHE VOLETE....MA QUESTO è LO STILE!QUESTA è LA TECNICA E SOPRATUTTO (per i soliti IGNORANTI CRTICONI!!!!)QUESTO è CANTARE COL CUORE!!!!!!

  • You clearly have a Bergonzi fixation, Max. How sad you can't recognize greatness when you hear it.

  • Maxhansendk can't even spell connoisseuer oh Lord this must be a 10 year old child... Carlo is a legend and this is a performance full of heart, bravo maestro!

    Ti amo.

    Guillaume Bergonzi

  • sei abbastanza grande per andare a Parma. vai.

  • cosa vorrebbe dire questa frase?

  • Era per il ragazzo sopra, cose personali.

  • I do not think Bergonzi is perfect but he had technique and thought, and you imbecile have no critical skills. Say why he is second rate and you might get some respect. Are you a groupie of another tenor? There seems to a lot of certain tenor worshippers on Youtube whowillhave nobody else sing...

  • I do not love C. Bergonzi's art unconditionally, certainly not. But he was one of the greatest Verdian tenor ever. You've no right whatsoever to write such a nasty comment, sorry.

  • Well said

  • There is a reason for why I left Denmark to do my singing studies in the US - maxhansendk and the likes of him are the reason!

  • grande Carlo Bergonzi

  • We all know that you don't care for Bergonzi. Take it somewhere else, please. You offer no insight, just know-nothing insults. That you have nothing of substance to add accounts for the fact that you sink to insulting the singer's physique.

  • I saw him at the metropolitan opera in 1964 in Rigoletto it,s one of my favorite tenor

    grande voce bravo

  • Pure class, from top to bottom. We miss you, Carlo.

  • Carlo Bergonzi...Just a small example why he'll forver be known as "The Tenor's Tenor."

  • I love how much he's enjoying it! The great Bergonzi certainly deserves it. That mellow sound is perfect.

  • Grande maestro. Carlo Bergonzi da Vidalenzo.

  • beautiful

  • Bergonzi is over 60 here and can still teach singers how to phrase and sing beautifully. Thanks for posting this. One of the best Tenors ever!

  • phenomenal. His face changes colour a couple times, but it all adds to the magnificence. Such solid technique and warm presence.
