Due to fire?????? I guess you didn't see the fuckin' jumbo jets loaded with fuel crash into the buildings. That is not a regular 'fire'. Part of the structure was destroyed and thousands of gallons of jet fuel were added. This was not just office furniture and carpet burning. The Air Defense System was not designed to engage domestic airline flights. They were looking for incoming threats.
