  • MAKE MORE VIDS

  • Excellent video -- clearly and precisely demonstrated. When setting up the tripod, I would suggest crossing the outer poles underneath the center pole; this method causes a portion of the load to be supported from the wood-to-wood contact of the outer poles. Setting up the center pole underneath the outer poles places nearly all of the load on the lashing instead of the poles.

    Great work!

  • Why do you American always talk so much?

  • You will survive!

  • hay paul, I know u think your way is the only way but ive ben setting tipis up for 20 years and the Indian way is bomb proof. your way is alot like the yakama Indians do there tipi tripods. I like the lakota way the best its fast and u can take it down easy and dont cut any rope it can b reused.. BC

  • Why did you stop uploading videos??

  • are you still making videos and if so can you make one of what you pack in your pack when you go out for a weekend in the woods

  • thanks for this useful video!

  • Amazing, I use this technique all the time now! Thanks again!

  • I love what you do and how you sprinkle in wise words about nature philosophy and conservation. Excellent videos, Paul!

  • Subd

  • Enjoyed Paul! Thanks as always.

  • Good ideas for the tripod however the poles were crossed wrong. They should be crossed with both side poles crossing each other in the front so the weight is bearing down ont the crossed poles instead of the weight bearing down on the cordage. other than that, great video.

  • RESPECT !

    Your videos are amazing !

  • Isn't it harder to make than you need? I remember seeing a video with siberians natives mounting a tepee fashion shelter based on a tripod, poles and cariboo skin. But for the tripod, they just lashed three saplin poles togethers with only one loop going over the three poles, made from leather. It worked well too!

  • @Rhinoch8 Yeah, that is a good point... this is more of a bomb-proof set up so to speak, but the simple method could work fine too... especially if conservation of cordage is an important factor. But, for anything that requires a strong lashing, I'd prefer this technique... thanks for your input!

  • Love your work Paul

  • @francais197 Thank you!!!

  • Well done Paul

  • @73mensailedoff Thanks!!!

  • Thanks Paul, I never thought about using a tripod to make a backrest, but now that you've mentioned it, it seems so obvious! I'll definitely try that next time I'm out.

  • Cool... yeah, it works especially well if you pick one side and lash a bunch of horizontals to it!

  • @HedgehogLeatherworks Yeah, I was thinking something like that, or maybe weaving together some smaller sticks into a mat and leaning it against the side. Either way, it'd be great to have something to rest your back against!

  • Boyscouts fwt!! :D

  • What does fwt mean? Forgive me for not knowing!

  • nice vid. i think this lashing could used in the construction of a tipi shelter?

  • Glad you liked it! Yeah, sure you could use it for that.

  • Great vid! Can you show us how to make the shelter and backrest?

Thanks! I'm back and here to stay!

  • Great video. Would two tripods be strong enough for hanging a hammock or tarp?

  • @wbequet as long as they don't slide against the ground it should be more than enough.

  • @wbequet

Thanks! No, not unless you put a strong pole between them and hung the hammock from the pole... but you would need some pretty large tripods for that.

  • Good video as usual.

  • Thanks!

  • Awesome vid as usual.

  • Thank you!
