  • it upsets me that these are not going to be available in new zealand for quite some time...:( will i be able buy them from overseas? thanks!

  • If I had the money...... oh well, I'll stick with my IE8s for now.

  • Good good, I have the HD600, HD650 and the amazing HD800. Definite must have for any audiophile with some cash to spare on headphones.

The HD800 sound quality bests almost all speakers I have heard up to 50K ! Minus the physical whole body experience you get listening to speakers.

  • Just by looking at these headphones you know already its something special! but given its price obviously its expensive.. my only question is how far the warranty can go?

  • All Sennheiser headphones are guaranteed for a period of 2-years - like any guarantee this covers manufacturing defects and not damage or normal wear and tear.

  • Yes, the cable detaches and is easily replaceable - it just unplugs from the headphones (see picture).

As the cable is fully balanced, except for the jack plug, some people are buying a replacement cable and swapping the jack plug for XLRs to run them from a balanced amplifier.

So, the answer to your question is: No Problem.

  • ? For John Willett: Does the cable detach? While I don't expect to be in any bombings or car chases while wearing them, I'd hope that the cable would be replaceable if it fell prey to some accident without having to replace the whole headphone set

  • Man, these headphones will make you foam at the mouth. But when will they come out?! FIrst it was April then May now it's scheduled for a summer release. I want these with the Mod 4 upgraded PS Audio DAC from Cullen Circuits and their upgraded PS audio GCHA Headphone amp. If I can get all these I'll be doing all my listening on a computer through USB connection that the DAC has.

  • I wonder if this "John Willett" actually listened to the HD800 because he seems to read off his "experiences".

  • Yes, I certainly *have* listened to the HD 800 and listened extensively.

I have had them at home over a couple of weekends, one before the Bristol show and the other a bit later. I listened to them on my Grace m902b from 24-bit / 96kHz digital masters I recorded myself and knew what the music sounded like in real life.

  • I also listened to CDs, some I had recorded myself and others from my collection. I listened on both my Grace m902b and on the headphones socket on my Myryad hi-fi system.

Any comments I make are based on my actual listening experience, listening to music I know intimately because I made the original recording.

I *have* placed my own personal order for a pair, as after listening I cannot live without them.

  • I'd be interested in what amp he used. Sennheiser should recommend some, because it makes quite a difference.

  • The amp. that Sennheiser used at the Bristol show was the Grace m902b. I actually use the same amp. myself and am delighted with it.

But there are a lot of good headphone amplifiers on the market and it would not be fair for Sennheiser to recommend one over another; especially as a lot of the choice comes down to personal taste.

  • Nice 1,600 amp/dac. You should the 800s. I know TTVJ new amp was being paired with HD800. As much as I want to have the 800, I'm not going to sell a lot of my headphones to buy one. Even though the 800s are probably worth the coin, 1,400 is a huge amount for a headphone. My limit is around 800, or a 1,000 if I can find a mint K1000.
