Thank you this is really helpful because I got a sewing machine and am taking a class for machine sewing and wanted to know how to make clothes for my american girl doll. What kind of clothing do you think would be easiest for beginning to make the clothes????
I made one! I used a really fun flannelette fabric that looks like rainbow doodles! (like little drawings/notes) It also has glow in the dark sections. Just for fun, I added two front pockets to look the the skirt in my LibertyJane contest entry: Bumblebee Chic (#3). I will post a video response as soon as I can make a video of the pics!
thank you very much im so hapy thanks foir showing step by step its soo easy i love it rated 5 stars you are soooooo nice to take your time and make this video!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh gee thanks amysewfun yesterday i asked you if you could make avideo for sewing and you did yayy i love this video thank you thank you thank you im gonna try it thanks!!!!11 :)
It depends. well, when I sew doll clothes, there is no set rules. Unlike sewing adult outfits that needs to fit perfectly. I used various sizes, like 5/8" or 1/4, it does not matter to me cause it's just for dolls. I could be wrong on this, but my end result looks good to me and that's what count :) Thanks for all the feedback!!!
No, because if you sew the side together first and then when you try to insert the elastic through the casing later, your elastic won't be able to go through.
Hi, this is E (not the person who originally posted that comment) and I have a way to sew the casing before the side seam. You just need to sew your casing normally (all the way around) then feed the elastic through using a safety pin. Once you have the elastic the size around you want (how much to pull on it) you sew the side seam, trapping the ends of the elastic and finishing the skirt in one easy step. This is much simpler for a beginner sewer!
Yes, I made an outfit for my sister's doll (you can see the video calles Marisol's play outfit on my channel, please watch it!) and I made a pair of jeans to go with it. I created the casing first, then threaded the elastic through and finally sewed up the back seam, sealing in the ends of the elastic.

Hi, this is E,
When you sew the seams, how big are they? (5/8 inch, 1 cm, etc.)
(For the side seams, elastic casing, and hem)

ok, so just sew a larger seam if you want a straighter skirt and a smaller seam if you want a more flared skirt?
coolbeanscde 2 years ago
wouldn't it be easier 2 sew the elastic area first and then sew the side togther?
coolbeanscde 2 years ago
No, because if you sew the side together first and then when you try to insert the elastic through the casing later, your elastic won't be able to go through.
