man that was such an amazing team, i feel bad for clarett - he coulda been great i mean just watching this video u see how talented he was, his success wasnt a fluke like some players... he did it to himself tho. i thought about him when i was watching the big10 networks best RB's of the 2000's and he was excluded from the list, i can sorta understand why because he only had one season, but at the same time that 1 season was amazing. the very definition of a waste of talent.
Best season of football to watch, hands down. Mo was every bit as talented as Adrian Peterson, he hit people so hard, he tore up his own shoulders. The way he saw/hit the seams while making people miss was uncanny. Raw talent. Wish him the best in Omaha
@timlexy Yes, the holes where there, but you have to be able to hit the holes, see the cutbacks lanes, make people miss at the second and third levels, run over some people, and outrun other people. Just being able to hit the holes at the first level is never enough. MoC punished the DBs who got in his way and wore them down as the game went on. In the locker room after the WSU game, one opposing DB told the press that attempting to tackle MoC was "like trying to tackle an SUV."
What could have been...but more importantly he really seems to have humbled himself big time and got his life straightened out. He won't ever be forgotten by Ohio State fans though.
One of the most gifted instinctual football players I've ever seen. Could run, block, catch, ball-hawk on defense. Great charisma, made the team around him better with his presence and came up big in the biggest games. He made some mistakes, did his time like a man and I wish him the best.
Regardless of the endless amount of bad decisions that Maurice Clarett has made, everytime I see him, I am left wondering what could have been. The kid could play football and he could have been so good, at the very least a dependable back. Stay in school, kids!
What was special about Maurice Clarett was the the way he dropped his pad level at the point of contact, not to try to deliver a blow but to absorb it and bounce off. And then he would hit the jets and be gone. See at 0:45 and 1:08
Without a doubt his best play was him stripping the ball away after the interception that Krenzel threw. That play should be shown to evey payer on how you always give 110% on every play.
I'm old but not too old...Clarett was 1 of the top 3 freshman RBs I have ever seen. That Buckeye team would have lost at least 3 games without him. His best play was the play against Miami after the Krenzel interception. Without him giving 100%, my Buckeyes lose that game. He will always be a legend to me for what he did on the playing field. If he keeps his head and stays at tOSU, he wins a Heisman and is forever compared to Eddie George and Archie Griffin. Truly a waste...oh well...GO BUCKS!!!
@ojbj25 Really? I would like to see him get back and turn his life around. It was a real shame he did not continue at Ohio State. He had a good chance at the Heisman.
HE WAS SICK THAT YEAR!!! I SAW HIM TORCH ST EDS WHEN HE WAS A SENIOR AT W.G.H. HE HAS MORE CHARACTER NOW THAN MANY PRO ATHLETES IN ANY SPORT DO. I HOPE SOMEONE GIVES HIMA SHOT IN THE NFL. THERE ARE MANY SCRUB UNIT RBS IN THE LEAGUE THAT HE IS WAY BETTER THAN. HES MOTIVATED AND HUNGRY. THATS A DANGEROUS COMBINATION.
as a player he was amazing and its sad to see all that talent get trhown away but as a person any buckeye fan should be embarrased to know a no good piece of shit wanted to leave the best university after 2 years hes useless
@Gmoney19971123 cmon man we all know that LSU is by far the best university pal...and its in the best conference SEC all day....big 10 aint shit..bunch of softies....truth hurts pal....
I keep reading alot of comments that say the tacklers suck. Well if you really follow sports, the great ones always make people look stupid (Reggie Bush, Adrian Peterson, Gayle Sayers, Barry Sanders etc.) You can even look at other sports that make people look ridiculous ( Micheal Jordan, Cristiano Ronaldo, etc.) So really cant knock him for that. The reason M.C. failed was because of his issues off the field & when your a dumbass... no one can help you.
No offense to M.C but some of these players absolutely suck at tackling and I mean SUCK!! So many of these highlights should have never happened. BUT! All the more power to M.C it's too bad he got himself into the mess that he did.
@Viper102650 No offense taken! I'm sure you could have tackled Maurice much better than the players that SUCK. What kind of comment is this? Are you a hater trying to make your team look better? Trying to take away from MC? Try writing a better comment next time. This first effort couldn't be much worse.
Million dollars in talent, anybody could see that when he played. Could have been one of the greats for OSU, still was a big part of the national championship team. Can't take that away from him. Would have loved to see what he could have done had he avoided all the problems.
@yeaboi55 lol he nvr played in the nfl cause of problems he got himself into...and he wasnt good he was great. hes the main reason why ohio state won the national championship.
What a shame that he threw his future away. I think he could have been such a great star in the NFL but we'll probably never see any highlights other than these old ones.
after his 1 yr. contracts up in omaha he's goanna end up in the nfl, just wait and see. the injury bug will hit and teams will be desperate for running backs. apparently he hasnt lost a step whilst incarcerated...
that play that clarett made after taylor intercepted that pass was one of the greatest heads-up plays of all time in my opinion. i remember watching it happen and just thinking about how quickly he had to notice that taylor didnt have the ball tucked and go for the strip. and then to see him run through taylor for the final score, little did he know taylor would go on to become one of the hardest hitting safetys in the NFL. both were great players.
i dont know why people were so surprised by his 40 times, you can see that he isn't running passed anybody in these highlights. he scored all those td's with quickness, great balance and great vision. im sure the year off slowed him down a bit but even during his freshman season he probably didn't run anything faster than a 4.5 or 4.6
@out4deadprzidnts i think what makes the video more insane is that he's doing all this shit as a freshman. i get blown away thinking someone only 2 years younger than myself doing all that shit at the D1 level anywhere lol
Its said to see such a talented athlete throw it all away from bad decisions. I really thought he was going to win a Heisman for Ohio State... Go Bucks!
I hope he can make a "come back" move to help him live up to his dreams. No doubt this guy is special and was a major contributer in that 2002 National Champs!
This is fun to watch. He wasn't the fastest back but he was slippery as an eel and it took several guys to bring him down. The high school footage is even funnier. He could have had one hell of a career if his head was screwed on straight. I would still like to see him get a season or two in the UFL/CFL now that he is outta prison. alas, it is probably too late. Arena?
cutback @ 1:35 was sick.....this guy shouldve been kept in a giant cage with weights and a treadmill with a sign on the door that said open in case of football game.
thanks for putten this showcase of M. C. on for all to see unlike lebron james aginst the celtics he didnt quit when his team needed him may have make a mistake or 2 but he played as hard as he could all the time and now he has done his time forgiveness is free
Clarett, I grew up with him in Youngstown Ohio...also played little league with him and knew his mother. He made a bad mistake that noone can judge but God, we all fall short sometimes because noone is immune to the trials and tribulations of life, noone....On another note, when he played for the buckeyes and help us win a National Championship is another thing, He will always be a OSU Buckeye..no matter how anyone feels....Good luck with your degree Maurice...Dre Peace
For what this was worth, OSU fans saw something that made them smile. An unselfish back that was hardcore as a freshman and wrapped himself around his/his teams accomplishments. He was NFL material, He had a future, He busted his rear... But what he did not take advantage of was the coaching and development he would have gained at OSU. He didn't take advantage of his fans that pushed him to do his best. Kids, please take his example and do your best... He has nothing to look forward to, you do..
Maurice Clarett was a great workhorse runningback who knew how to play smash-mouth football and deliver a hit instead of taking one. As an Ohio State fan, I am saddened by what happened to him, and I know how much contribution he gave to that 14-0 National Championship team. If it weren't for him, OSU might not even have played in the Fiesta Bowl that year. It also angers me by all of the haters out there. I say thank you, Maurice, for all you have given to Ohio State University football. O-H
What a beast he was at OSU. Could have been one of the best backs in the NFL along side AP. What a career he could have had if he stayed in school for another year or 2..
He's got to feel awful knowing that if he had just been dedicated to football and kept his focus and stayed in school for another 2 years he could have been a top 5 pick and be making 8 million a year. Now he is just getting out of prison and has to live a blue collar life where he will be lucky to make 8 million in his entire life time.
Clarett stripping Sean Taylor (R.I.P.) of that interception will go down as a legendary play. Mo's saga just goes to show that you have to make the right choices, bcuz it doesnt matter how good you are when u break the law and do all the other stuff that he did.. i think OSU would have won back-to-back championships if he had played the next year :(
had he stayed in college, not been such a fucking retard and try and go to the NFL, and followed the law, he would without a doubt be the best running back in history. if he was this fucking good his freshman year, who knows how much better he would be in the NFL. what an idiot.
I definitely don't think he is going to get a tryout. Why you ask? He isn't getting out of jail till 2014. It's highly unlikely. Ha ha. Really funny post. Where ever you got that info from was horribly reported.
uum does 31-24 double overtime brings back a bad memory i know it wld 4 me if i was a cane fan but im not im a bucks fan week 2 score 38-17 ohio st on top
makes me sick to watch such wasted talent. amazing one year though, won a national championship against a great team that had a bunch of nfl stars on the defense.
you just said a mouthful my friend this guy had it and shitted it all away!! tryouts my ass, i hope he can still hack it.....well i really dont give a shit either way!!!LMFAO
i workout with the strength and conditioning coach who was at ohio state when clarett was a freshman, and he said thar clarett could squat over 800 pounds abd bench over 400
say what you wanna say about clarett but i seen this man play at harding high and watched all his collage games i love my bucks but they would have never got that far without clarett he could have been one of the best players of football collage and nfl had he not messed up
god, he had the potential to be a great runningback. if he doesnt fuck up, he easily wins the heisman and probably another national championship. what i liked about him is how much heart he had.
beast!!!!!!! omfg dumb guy tho wtf always locked up D; but was one of the best rbs... that wr did good to fixin to watch some of his videos D: smokin n watchin youtube best sunday lol
did clarett put OSU and Andy Gieger in a bad light or did the other 20 plus OSU players that got arrested do that? sure clarett messed up but to be banished from OSU was more severe than any other punishment that any other player got
Anyone who takes joy seeing a great athlete like this separated from his sport--after only one year--has no heart, vision or sense of what sports are about. The Canes were and are a great team. I don't want to see any of them wreck their lives. I hate it that some fans rejoice in Mo's tragic downfall. Sad.
@sac3074 congrats. you've managed to "insult" me with the word piss. get an education and quit defending this piece of shit. clarett is garbage and so is anybody who defend him
@jblacktree has nothing to do with canes they lost 8years ago ha ha, cain fans still cry about that, they lost, and was dominated by a freshman ha ha that ruined his dream and career by being an idiot, probally would have been a beast, but key words would have, he was imature
@CavySean Maurice for sure DID NOT dominate Miami...it was our D that dominated Miami...Maurice helped but he most def did not dominate! Craig was the leading rusher! Maurice fucked up his life...its a sad thing when a athlete with SO MUCH potential fucks up his life! I dont feel bad for him one bit! He made his bed and how he must lay in it!
@jblacktree He did it to himself, he gambled with his career and lost. Do you feel sympathy for all the chumps in casinos who blow their life savings on video poker too? People who make dumb choices in life should be held accountable. Play by the rules or pay the price.
@crono916 Self-righteous jerk. I hope you get held accountable for your dumb choices, and I'm sure you've made plenty. That's called being human. When we hurt others, or animals, as with Vick, then I understand outrage. Your acrimony is just pious sanctimonious glaoting.
@jblacktree You self imposing benighted asshole. I still can't believe there are people out there who are completely impervious to the way the REAL world works. The margin for error is very thin. There are many people in this world who fall from grace and get back up to become stronger. This man you are so inclined on defending turn to a life of crime and violence. And don't you dare take 1 sec to assume i take pleasure in his demise either before you try and lecture me.
@crono916 You don't write well. You don't mean "benighted" and "...margin for error is very thin," is a cliche in concept and utterance. Your "REAL" world is a hellish place, I'm sure. I am not "inclined on defending." I am inclined to correctly define the motives of those who cast blame, and with relish. Grace? Strength?Mo has returned to school and applied to the courts to play semi-pro football. I wish him well. You can tsk tsk your way to hell.
@jblacktree You don't spell very well. I'm pretty sure glaoting isn't a word. Pretentious douche bag. Call the concept a cliche but last time i checked it fits perfectly within the framework of an athlete trying to turn pro. It's amazing how far ignorance will take people. For you to continue to sit there and assume that his downfall brings me some kind of enjoyment further illustrates the restless world in which you live in. Judging by your last sentence you've sunk lower then Mo. I pity you.
@jblacktree "That's called being human." Ohhhhh the Irony , a typical whiny cliche one uses when they refuse to atone for their mistakes. Really friend? Because you are perfect. Mr. Walking hypocrisy over here. Picking apart what i say huh, someone's running out of ammo.
Who are you to talk about thugs? Your name is miamicanes - posted 2 years ago. Mo wasn't a thug, and neither was ST, but hes the one who got shot in the face.
ST - got blown out. In the NFL he consistently caught fines and suspensions to Helmet-to-Helmet hits and not wearing the proper jersey. Remember Miami - FIU? The Anthony Reddick helmet? Yea.
this fuckin cat, i feel sorry for him, he had it all, why go into the fl when osu is fuckin payin u? straight up fuckin dumbass and waste of great talent, ima miami fan too and in 2002 osu wouldnt have won the national champ without this cat
Best RB in college football history behind Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Hershel Walker, Bo Jackson, OJ, Archie Griffin. The kid was a beast. I didn't want to believe the hype, but seeing is believing. Literally unstoppable. Amazing stats on the season for a freshman, and he even missed a few games. Only problem- he'd have been at the top of the list if he'd been more patient and stayed in school.
his season was amazing

He was NFL material, He had a future, He busted his rear... But what he did not take advantage of was the coaching and development he would have gained at OSU. He didn't take advantage of his fans that pushed him to do his best. Kids, please take his example and do your best... He has nothing to look forward to, you do..

3 time national champ and a 2 time heisman winner he would have been...

What a career he could have had if he stayed in school for another year or 2..

so much talent wasted.. what a dumbass
beefygreenapples 1 year ago
He's got to feel awful knowing that if he had just been dedicated to football and kept his focus and stayed in school for another 2 years he could have been a top 5 pick and be making 8 million a year. Now he is just getting out of prison and has to live a blue collar life where he will be lucky to make 8 million in his entire life time.

I'd take Clarett over Beanie Wells if I had to choose between them. Both in the same backfield would be downright SCARY!

this dude was incredible, I'd consider it one of the greatest tragedies in OSU football for what happened to him after this season
lilwhytey 1 year ago

Sad.

He made his bed and how he must lay in it!
wolves1109 1 year ago
@jblacktree He did it to himself, he gambled with his career and lost. Do you feel sympathy for all the chumps in casinos who blow their life savings on video poker too? People who make dumb choices in life should be held accountable. Play by the rules or pay the price.
crono916 1 year ago
@crono916 Self-righteous jerk. I hope you get held accountable for your dumb choices, and I'm sure you've made plenty. That's called being human. When we hurt others, or animals, as with Vick, then I understand outrage. Your acrimony is just pious sanctimonious glaoting.
jblacktree 1 year ago
@jblacktree You self imposing benighted asshole. I still can't believe there are people out there who are completely impervious to the way the REAL world works. The margin for error is very thin. There are many people in this world who fall from grace and get back up to become stronger. This man you are so inclined on defending turn to a life of crime and violence. And don't you dare take 1 sec to assume i take pleasure in his demise either before you try and lecture me.
crono916 1 year ago
@crono916 You don't write well. You don't mean "benighted" and "...margin for error is very thin," is a cliche in concept and utterance. Your "REAL" world is a hellish place, I'm sure. I am not "inclined on defending." I am inclined to correctly define the motives of those who cast blame, and with relish. Grace? Strength?Mo has returned to school and applied to the courts to play semi-pro football. I wish him well. You can tsk tsk your way to hell.
jblacktree 1 year ago
@jblacktree You don't spell very well. I'm pretty sure glaoting isn't a word. Pretentious douche bag. Call the concept a cliche but last time i checked it fits perfectly within the framework of an athlete trying to turn pro. It's amazing how far ignorance will take people. For you to continue to sit there and assume that his downfall brings me some kind of enjoyment further illustrates the restless world in which you live in. Judging by your last sentence you've sunk lower then Mo. I pity you.
crono916 1 year ago
@crono916
"Last time I checked"?
"...within the framework"?
"It's amazing how far ignorance will take people."--Yes. Yes indeed. "...the restless world in which you live in..." Live and Let Die?
Nice that you've adopted the squirmy, pre-teen, misongynistic soubriquet du jour, "douche bag." Tasteful.
Go away.
Leaping on a typo?
jblacktree 1 year ago
@jblacktree "That's called being human." Ohhhhh the Irony , a typical whiny cliche one uses when they refuse to atone for their mistakes. Really friend? Because you are perfect. Mr. Walking hypocrisy over here. Picking apart what i say huh, someone's running out of ammo.
