  • What other vales can i use in my d17?

  • u guys do know the y8 rockers will work in the non vtec head right u got to run oil feed :P for vtec took 2 obx cam gears because there cheap and crap the y7 gear and the d17 gear thay sell u swap the middles and use the d16 middle and d17 outter and all u got to do is swap the y8 cam and rockers to the d17 head and u got real vtec was messint around because i got lots of sohc shit so wanted to make a frank motor that no one has done yet just to say that i did it first :P

  • Bro i just bought a y8 mani for my em2 and i really want to do this mod. is there anyway we can get in touch and you let me know the parts list and process necessary to make it work?? it would be really appreciated bro...

  • dude where did u get that intake manifold i want that shit but i couldnt find it in my country

  • This is not an EX VTEC, an EX VTEC has a coil pack wire cover that says "VTEC" not "HONDA"

  • @nimsu AND, no EGR can or Vtec valve.

  • @TomOEM2 first off its and egr valve and a vtec sulenoid, and second with the d16y8 intake manifold, you dont need to have the egr vavle bacause the manifold dosent have an egr port.

  • jw are you using kpro?

  • @asianboi89 Still the factory ECU. Kpro is nice, but $1300+, not on a Lx motor.

  • @TomOEM2 no cel?

  • After everything is nice, nice, try different grades of gas. I found out that on 87 (regular) the car runs better and pulls harder. 93 (super) was a joke, in 3rd gear took forever.

  • @TomOEM2 There's no sense in putting higher octane fuel in a vehicle that runs fine on low octane, unless you want to waste cents. Higher octane is only needed in cars with a higher compression ratio to prevent detonation, doesn't have any impact on most non-boosted cars.

Nice job on the intake swap though, what kind of performance gains are you noticing?

  • @cheesegoat824 Performance gains, little. Throttle response is better. The mid-range has a better feel to it. Before, 6200rpm the power would fade away. Now, after 6200rpm it feels like it gets a bit of V-tec and really pulls right to 7100rpm. With a Lx motor, 230,000+ miles on it (then), you can't ask much. 251,000 miles today (all mine), 1 of 2 Ex motors waiting to be installed, Lx motor will not die. I've never even changed the water pump or thermostat and NOTHING, still doesn't overheat.

  • @TomOEM2 Haha sounds like a honda. I wish i had the same luck with mine, I just recently had to replace the head gasket, radiator, thermostat, and water pump, and timing belt. But the timing belt and water pump were optional, but figured it was getting close to the recommend change for those two. My car was only at 58,000 miles when that happened to.

  • @cheesegoat824 That suck, with only 58,000 miles. Is yours an Ex or Lx? From all the years of finding info on the D17, I know that the Ex motors do have a bit more problems. I think its because the Ex runs a little leaner. The gas mileage on the highway is identical between the Ex and Lx. Ex also has oil squirters. I'm now using an Ex tranny with a LSD (Quaifi, for 1st gen Fit) and my gas mileage did go down, it also rev's around 400 rpm more at 60 m/hr.

  • @TomOEM2 I have an Ex. Well, I think it all started awhile back when the thermostat went out and I'd watch the temp gauge shoot up, but couldn't really do anything about it (couldn't pull over). I wasn't too upset about it, and I'm going to school to learn about this sort of thing, so it actually worked out pretty well.

  • @cheesegoat824 That's cool

  • I am in the process of doing this mod but I have a leak at the injector plate. I used the old gasket and I did not know about Honda bond. I will be getting a new gasket and I will be sure to put some Honda-bond on it. Besides the leak the car feels good until the CEL comes on. nonetheless it a grate mods thanks for the post.

  • No cutting necessary. The motor its on now is a Lx, but using the Ex injector plate and the original Lx gasket covered with Honda-bond. It'll work on both motors, just have to use the right gasket for the motor. I had a shop cut and weld the intake to the plate (took 3 days) and about 4 days to fab, finish and install.

  • Nice Mod. Are you still using your oem EGR valve? did you have to do any cutting and how long did it take?
