I think he main problem with the matrix sequels was timing, they took way to long to release them. By the time they came out all the ground breaking fx in the first one were seen every where ( scary movie for gods sake!), which in my opinion really hampered the appeal of the follow ups. By the time they were released it was old news. Not nearly the same impact.
Thanks. i forgot about the later david cronige berg film i saw it once whay back then . and then remember it but not what it was called . and motroplise. wow thanks i love that movie
Just to be clear, this viewpoint shows that the Matrix trilogy is the philosophical sequel to Ghost in the Shell (GITS). GITS2: Innocence does not follow Motoko’s journey after she integrates – Neo does. GITS2: Innocence is really a furthering of the philosophies that Oshii advanced in Avalon, meaning that conceptually, GITS2: Innocence is the sequel to Avalon, not the original GITS.
"Two shitting matrix sequels that came after" Ow... that really hurt. Matrix reloaded was like a sequel to Ghost in the Shell, and Matrix Revolutions was VERY MUCH a sequel to Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. Take a look at Ghost in the Shell, and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, since you like those kind of movies. Also might recommend as a weird/underrated find. BRAZIL A Terry Gilliam masterpiece that wasn't shown in theaters.
Man, I have had the argument about Jennifer Connelly with so many people! THANK YOU! lol "Skeletor" fits perfectly, and Dark City was an excellent film.
Hey, interesting. Do you know this movie? I saw it as a kid and can't recall it's name. A group of people in a natural environment and some sort of robots or machines that guarded some entrances or something. Machines moved smoothly and slowly like on rails. They could shoot laser. They discovered them by seeing their reflection on a cliff face. They thought it might be a mica reflection but went to investigate.
When they discovered the robots, they saw a flash from a cliff face (which was a
I HATE the fact that Sci Fi has never gotten the recognition it deserved! Granted... alot of it is schlock! But then, what's so bad with schlock? Sadly, most people judge the quality of Sci-Fi by the effectiveness of its special effects... not the content! Thus, in either case... they miss the whole point!
@dukes0916 Um, if I'm not mistaken isn't sci-fi widely known all around the world? They have two channels devoted to it on T.V. in North America alone, plus lots of movies that were successful in that genre. And isn't half the greatness of sci-fi supposed to be special effects? What's a good sci fi without some? Sadly it's the dicks these days that can't go one frame without a CGI of some sort floatin around
Love Existenz (I think it was less 'underrated' in Canada back in the day, but it's obviously been lost in the heap of modern sci fi... and Dark City is a magnificent flick as well, I'm glad I stopped hesitating on seeing that one. I'm going to have to watch the other three movies mentioned. Thanks for sharing!
You like Dark City more than the Matrix? Of course its subjective, but come on!! I'm not saying that Matrix is superior, but these two are completely different types of film. Just because they are sci fi doesn't mean you can necessarily compare them. Anyway, DC is awesome. Thanks for the video. Nice list. I'm gonna see Existence now.
My top underrated SCI-FI films: Alien 3, The Arrival, The Shadow, Contact, Robocop 2 and 3, Mimic, Ultraviolet, DeepStar Six, The Rocketeer, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Galaxy Quest, Lost In Space, Space Truckers, The Cell, Judge Dredd, Strange Days, Jurassic Park 3, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, Sphere, The Relic, Deep Rising, Terminal Invasion, Equilibrium, Signs, Avatar (2004), Demolition Man, The Lawnmower Man 1 and 2, Timecop, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Yes Dark City made number! Can't agree more that film is very very underrated and often unknown to people. I myself only discovered it because it was playing on Fox one night.
Maybe someone can help me find the name of this movie. I saw it when I was very little early 80's... the premise was a guy traveled to different times or dimensions to rescue his girlfriend using a wrist device. It had a battle at the end against a demon or alien... Anyone know the name?
I can probably hunt down the title of this movie if you just give me a little more to go on. Do you remember any of the actors? or possibly the year of release?

Have seen 3, not 2.
Have to say, great list.
Well 4 if you include gattaga plug at start.
You should be a pro critic.
Top class show.
Btw. Have you any idea how to get Brave New world 80's version?
Can't find it anywhere.

Hell yeah, thansk for praising Natural City.
I'd mix a list up with Event Horizon, Alien 3, Moon, Natural City, and Cube.
What did you do with your film school anyway?

If it's the one I'm thinking of with Richard Moll, it was called Ragewar or The Dungeonmaster in North America.
