Forego? He didn't even win the Triple Crown! I was lucky enough to see him win in '73, as I was 10 yrs old and I'll never forget it. Seattle Slew and Affirmed were great TC
@myguitarwantstokill Secretariat was on steriods ...how else can you explain the horses triple crown races while he lost 5 other races (out of 17) ???Penny Tweedy was a money-whore just like her daddy, and all she wanted to do was take a poor racehorse and make him run on illegal steriods to save her retarded fathers farm.I think the movie about Secretariat is just a typical American fantasy that turned into a cash cow.Sham was better stud than Big Red as well.

@SonofLiberty79 No, he was not on steroids...period. There are great human athletes that were not on steroids. Why is it such a leap for some people to accept that there can be an outstanding athlete in the animal world???
@kwgrid Secretariat was on alot of illegal Steriods. In fact Shams trainer says that Sham was 20 lengths faster than Secretariat but they put all kinds of steriods and heart growing hormonal injections in him prior to the 1973 Triple Crown series.Laffitt Pincay says there is no way any horse could run 2:24 in the mile and a half Belmont without being "Juiced".
@AmsterdamKutscheet Lafitt Pincay is a filthy piece of shit that doesnt know anything about anything and has no right to say anything about this great horse
@HuckFard Don't worry, Pincay never said anything bad about Secretariat and neither did Beyer. Both admired this horse. That piece of garbage troll is just making things up to upset people, and then closes his account. He's been doing that on other Sec vids.
I never said he was roiding, i personally think that he wasn't, i don't have proof to back that up, just my belief that he was all natural. The only question that should be asked about Secretariat is, was he better than Man o War?
@SonofLiberty79 Here's something that should aid in your "belief that he was all natural": his trainer realized that this colt needed hard workouts before races in order to perform - legendary workouts that would ruin any other horse. When he didn't perform in them, such as before the Whitney when he was ill with a low grade fever, he lost. Shortly before the MOW Stakes, he drilled 5f in 0:56.8 (G1 sprinter speed). What happened in the MOW? TR, blasting older turf champs.
@SonofLiberty79 Yes, I did. Perhaps my wording was a little off. You said you didn't whether he was on steroids or not. I was just injecting my thoughts on that score. I didn't mean to imply that you said he was.
So many boys on this sight are jealous of the greatest race horse in history. I find it amusing that all of you are choosing this video to vent. Secretariat had more confidence than you will ever have. Too bad. You'll spend the rest of your lives living the shoulda, woulda, coulda excuses and never be as famous as this horse. And it's been almost 40 years...and it still intimidates you. WOW! I'm amused:-) And you fear everyone else who honors his greatness.
@schnucklefutz its even funnyer how you and Cmf4321 are obsessed with a dead racehorse and that you spend your New Years eves and Christmas's watching reruns of Secretariat while your ex wives are busy sucking and fucking their brains out and drinking fine wine.
@TonySopranowhoisgay BTW, accdg to u, any great horse who was capable of unimaginable speed must be on steroids. Well u can put all of the great horses on steroids...& Secretariat STILL had the fastest TC track records in history. And thank GOD he was owned by a woman. Only men would be competitive enough to put a horse on steroids. Sec was treated & raised with love and respect. Most race horse owners care only about the almighty dollar. Your opinion needs an asterick.
@SukBonelessSausage BTW, I am so, so sorry to hear about your small penis issue. I know that it must be very difficult:-) You just may not want to broadcast it here on youtube. Your username sukbonelessSausage gives you away. Not exactly someone with high self esteem.
@cmf4321 how did you know the size of my Penis ,is this another one of your fantasys?Did your mother tell you about the time she had to call the fire department after your father shoved a Gerble so far up his ass that he needed to get a Paramedic to pull it out with your Gay uncles teeth?
@ChazBonoFuckYoDaddy Pray tell why you think Forego is number one. Forego may have more stats because he ran for many more years. Even so, I don't see anything in his stats that puts him above Secretariat. And Man-o-War's stats don't match Secretariat either. I don't know where you're getting your info or perspective but it's 'off the rails,' if you ask me.
@kwgrid Forego was a 5 time horse of the year,Man O War 5 times horse of the year.Secretariats 2 horse of the year awards are going to be given to Sham as Andy Beyer said that Big Red was using illegal Steriods.
@TonySopranowhoisgay And Jimmy the Greek claimed before the TC that Secretariat was lame. If people write something, according to you, it must be true. Secretariat didn't need anything...not drugs, not encouragement. He was born with a 22 pound heart, confidence that was unshakeable, and was considered the most "perfect" horse physically by everyone...even to this day. Sorry, but one horse had it "all". No drugs were necessary. He was perfect beyond humans petty opinions.
Thanks bon1042... I bought the 'life story thing of Secretariat' out there but it's not the same as the ESPN thing we're all watching here ?? I'll keep looking for it I guess, still no luck on eBay or Amazon either? ?
Just an Awesome horse!!!! What an honor it must have been to see this machine in person!! I work down the street from Meadow Farm in Doswell Va. I can almost feel his spirit in the air while watching this !!
Anabolic steroids cause enlarged hearts in humans and test animals.
Some people get upset if you suggest Secretariat was on steroids. When they autopsied Secretariat, his heart weighed 22lbs. The next largest heart they ever found was 18lbs. The average thoroughbred has a heart that weighs 8.5 lbs.
The horse had a massive heart, which allowed it to pump large volumes of blood through it's muscles, that's what made it great.
It's such a blessing to have videos of him and so many other great athletes and events. He was one of a kind and I never tire of watching his races. ♥
too bad this segment wasn't longer because there is so much more to tell about Secretariat and what made him so special. With each passing year the distance between Sec (with MOW) and all other champions seems to widen. It has been 33 years since the last Triple Crown Winner and Sec's 2:24 and 31 length margin of victory have not be challenged; not even close.
@funshipM174 - at 16 hands 2", 1,160 lbs of sheer muscle and an amazing 75+ girth, and extra 8 - 10 lbs would NOT have negatively imapcted Secretariat at all. Especially considering as a 4 year-old he would have been even stronger...if that is imaginable!!! It would have been frightening to see SEC run as a 4 -year old for he would have set virtually EVERY speed record in the books!
@Dannykeith46 That would've been a sight to see watching him at 4. Watching his performance here at Belmont he could've carried an extra 100 lbs and nothing would have come close. Accelerating as he crossed the line, unbelievable power and elegance.
@bon1042 I bet all the other owners breathed a sigh of relief to see that he didn't run at 4..But jeez the fans would've loved to see that one. I mean look at when they're walking to the winners circle it looks like he could've done another 1 1/2 easy. I love Turcottes quote "when I looked back I scared myself" I feel lucky to be old enough to have witnessed this great animal.
@Dannykeith46 .... if ONLY... if ONLY Christopher Chenery hadn't died they wldn't have had to syndicate him to pay the estate taxes.... if ONLY.... Nack in a Blood Horse Talking Horses segment railed at the moneyed people who cldn't wait to get him into the breeding shed. They had enough $, cldn't they have just given him the 4 year old season to run. It wld've have been stupendous for horse racing.
@bbwalk100 big difference between an "Enlarged" heart and a large heart. It has been scientifically proven how Secretariat came to have the X chromosome.
I never realized that Forego was in the same Kentucky Derby as Secretariat because the name Forego was meaningless at the time. Forego was one of the great horses ever, although it took Forego longer to mature. He was a legendary closer and one of the most famous calls in racing history was "And here comes Forego!" at the end of a race passing half the field to win. He won Horse of the Year 3 years in a row.
@cavalierfan1995 Ironically, Big Brown's trainer admitted to giving him steroids. That's the 'steroid use' that's trying to be pawned off on Secretariat.
Man i am not in all that horce racing until a couple years ago when i start to betting on horse racing and start to informing about that all for me new and 'old fashion cool' exciting thing. And back here in Serbia we have a horce racing for long time ago but on low level and in the corner of sport media and people interest.
But i mean all that bay me immediately. Soon a find out for Secreteriat and his almost out this world story.
Awesome clip!!! Awesome horse!! I watched the Triple Crown on television and just like some of the folks on this clip mentioned about themselves or others, I screamed and shouted and cried my eyes out during and after the home stretch. ♥
Absolutely the greatest horse race and the greatest horse ever, imo. His move from last to first in the Preakness, too, were outstanding. I doubt we'll ever see anything like Secretariat again. Perfection!
I've watched videos of Secretariat more than 100 times and not once did i ever see Turcott do anything other than hold on for dear life just like every other jockey. they barely have ability to whip a horse for more than a second without jeopardizing their balance. No way to batteries and shock treatment and, they saliva tested the horses after the races - no way to steroids too. U must be Charlie Brown...not happy unless something is wrong. Or, u r just an idiot.
if you watch closely, when sham and secretariat leave the pack, watch the length of the strides. Sham is doing three strides for every two for Secretariat's. Big Red could only stretch the lead because all of the competitors were just grinding it out while Big Red was flying. in the last stretch, his lead doubled. And one last thing - he ran each quarter faster than the last. He did it in each of the triple crown races. Want to know why he's the greatest and NOT Man O War? Watch Belmont!
@80cathryn If you watch even closer, you will see Ron Turcotte pull out a battery and shock Secretariat with it each and everytime he ran in 1972 and 1973.
@GeorgeCarlinIsInHell stop hating on us,its not our fault we're the best @ everything.go on just keep on accusing us for cheating to win,oh and a do we also cheat to have the most powerful military in the world and have the best athletes in the world too?
@TheAssPacker1969 You got that right. I talked to Broun about the matter. He told me he couldn't help it. He thought all were fillies because they ran so slow of times you jealous ass. Remember, he was the champ And the rest were pussies.Hehehe
@BrooksFrankandBoog70 .. Sorry, still the 2nd most impressive athletic performance of our time. Mark Spitz winning 7 gold medals with 7 world records in Munich is a feat so tremendous that it is still not comprehended today.
@DrDeath2661 Didn't know the Greek got that story told around. Knew the rumor about him saying Secretariat getting hurt which was bogus. Thanks so much for that information my good man.
There is no evidence Secretariat took steriods but its a fact if he did it did not help him to perform. The Secreatariat haters cannot even use 'Steriods" as an excuse why he ran so fast. They lose every debate. They just do not know what in the hell their talking about.
The others couldn't keep up because they were carrying too much mud. Big Red and Ron were hauling so much ass and throwing back so much mud it got harder for the losers to win as the race went on. Not steriods. A great horse with a 21 pound heart and a great jockey hauling ass. Pure and Simple.
"He is running like a tremendous machine", says it all. He didn't just beat the field and win the triple crown, he DESTROYED the other horses and the records. There's a still picture in this video where I swear this horse is smiling and thinking "Yeah, I'm the best. Did you other guys really think you ever had a chance to beat me?" Secretariat wasn't one of God's once in a life time creations, Secretariat was a only once for ALL time creation.
@gnevolejr There's a great bonus clip with the movie where some of the actors and some of the actual people were interviewed. Penny Chenery, Seth Hancock, Charlie Davis, Jimmy Gaffney, as well as Diane Lane, John Malkovich, the guy that played Ronnie Turcotte (who happens to be a real jockey) and the guy that played Lafitte Pincay. Pretty cool clips. They should be on utube somewhere. :)
I cried. We all did. When I saw him go around last turn I yelled..."SECRETARIAT!!!" and I broke down. (then my neighbors came to my door and weeped also)
FYI..as you can see, there are morons who register with various idiotic names. They "crash" video commentary as long as their name is not taken down and simply try to get on everyone's nerves. Of course, they hide in their computers as they would never dare say anything to a person's face.
@UnCircumsizedSmegma Count Fleet beat 3 allowance horses in the Belmont. Who in the hell did Man 0' War beat? A washed-up Sir Barton as trainer Hollie Hudges said hoofs & all Man 0' War ran 6 of his 11 races as a 3 yr. old againit only one horse in each race. Its only your last defense saying he was on steriods. All Secretariat haters use that excuse. The Bid could never win a 1 1/2 mile race. He thought he was Secretariat in the Belmont with that pace he kept until he ran out of gas. Hehehe
@DrDeath251 The more you post Uncirmusized, the more your IQ shows through. Since you wanted to steal my name and tried to get clever w/ the number, perhaps 25.1... that's 25 POINT 1... would have been appropriate... because that's the area where your IQ hovers. You are aware, aren't you, you ignorant fuck, that in 1973 horses were tested after each race for anything illegal? And Secretariat always came up clean!!! Sheesh... how is that possible? Must be a conspiracy. You're such a waste...
Oh, and by the way, how many other Triple Crown winner's broke the Kentucky Derby stakes record, the Preakness stakes record, and shattered the Belmont Stakes record to the point that it's never again been even remotely approached in 38 years? To accomplish that feat was totally unheard of. This horse was the closest thing to winged Pegasus that you'll ever see.
All of you people saying that Secretariat was on steroids, and that he didn't ever beat anyone, don't have a clue of what you're talking about, and your talking out of your collective @sses!! Sham was a magnificent horse. He also only beat Forgo. Who's considered one of the all-time greats. Plus, he beat his own stablemate, Riva Ridge, later on. And Riva Ridge had won both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes himself the year prior to Secretariat. This horse was God-given!!
@DrDeath251 So is Uncircumsized creating new accounts or are you just his little butt buddy? Look, it's very simple... all of you accusing Secretariat of doping are simply in denial. The horse was a great champion who accomplished more than any horse in history. That you guys continue to cry about it nearly 40 years later just shows how sad and pathetic your lives are. I can't believe the level of immaturity that you have, to create new accounts to spew your hatred. Sad little man you are...
@UnCircumsizedSmegma So why are you continuing to post your hate-spewed drivel? I think many came here to pay respect and say "Thanks" and we find the place littered w/ idiots like you. Crawl back into your little hole and get on w/ your life. You post incorrect statements which, if one were to press the issue, could find you liable for slander... and you say I am the one who needs meds? LMAO! To quote the guy in Field Of Dreams... You're seeing a whole team of psychiatrists aren't you? LOL
@UnCircumsizedSmegma Is that why his wife is named Carolyne and he has 4 children??? You fucking people and your bullshit make my day! Just get over it... Secretariat was a GREAT HORSE who did things no other horse has ever done. I'm sincerely sorry for you that Sham was just that... a sham! Now take your losses and silly fucking excuses and go the fuck home.
@UnCircumsizedSmegma You can take The Greek's word, I'll rely on William Nack, who says, on page 245 of his book Secretariat: The Making Of A Champion, this: Jimmy The Greek had never been to the barn at Belmont Park and he was handicapped by a somewhat limited grasp of horse racing...
The Greek was wrong when he said Secretariat wasn't worthy of his notoriety, so he furthered that by spreading BS. As far as a lawsuit, why even answer to something so insane? That just adds credibility to it.
To much hatred and envy. This was a Great Mammal/Animal . Just a outstanding Horse and athlete. Greatness is Greatness a Legendary Race the Record speaks for itself.
To much hatred and envy. This was a Great Mammal/Animal . Just a outstanding Horse and athlete. Greatest is Greatest a Legendary Race the Record speaks for itself.
@UnCircumsizedSmegma What you have failed to grasp is that the jerk I was responding to, claimed that Secretariat lost 5 times in 1973.. the same year he won The Triple Crown.
As for the horses you mentioned, have any of them done what Secretariat has? Have any of them set records that still stand 38 years later? Have any of them broken track records by over 2 seconds at the longest distance? Or won by 31 lengths?
@SwalowBonelesSausage Hey Boneles... perhaps you should change your name to Spineless... Secretariat had 21 career races. His record was 16-3-1 w/ one second place finish disqualified for "interference." Where do you come up w/ 5 losses in 8 month's the same year he won the Triple Crown? It's ignorant morons like you who fail to check their facts and spew filth that makes the Internet such a garbage dump. Get over it... Secretariat was the GREATEST HORSE EVER and his record speaks for itself!
Necropsies were performed on Secretariat and Sham. Both were found to have abnormally large hearts. Essentially, Secretariat was a freak of nature as most incredible athletes are. Big Red simply had a heart that could pump more oxygenated blood through his system.
@SwalowBonelesSausage Well......on the other hand, he DEMOLISHED EVERY OTHER HORSE who attempted to beat him the the 1973 K/Derby, Preakness and, oh yeah, the BELMONT. So I guess your suggesting these SUPERLATIVE Triple Crown wins are not relevant? You are an idiot. But your rants really don't matter - you are a simpleton.
@BrooksRobby5 You seem to FAIL to grasp the FACT that Secretariat's accomplishments in his TRIPLE CROWN SWEEP are EXTRAORDINARY/and have not been replicated to this day! He lost in other races. OK. Does this CHANGE the FACT his TRIPLE CROWN VICTORY remains Definitive? NO. You are an idiot.
The obnoxious people on this site...what lame lives they have. It reminds me of people watching another legend, Michael Jackson, listen to his music & then post obnoxious comments. If you don't like something...what is the point of watching it?? This miracle performance will never happen again.. & almost 40 years have proven it. No other horse has ever achieved what Secretariat did in the 1973 Triple Crown races. Stop whining. All you've proven is why greatness will always elude you.
Not sure how all these perverse and negative comments made it on this board concerning Big Red and this video. This was the greatest race horse America has ever known. It is a disgrace to the memory of Secretariat that people disrespect his performance and post trash on this site. Big Red you were a magnificent animal and one of the greatest "athletes ever". I just wish I could have seen you before you passed on.
@sb2244 They are Secretariat haters my friend. Always claiming he was on steriods. He was so good these assholes cannot believe a horse is that fast unless he is on steriods. But is funny that they cannot prove it. Its all bullshit talk and nothing else. They waste their bad breath because no one is believing them. They sure got a excuse for MOW, Citation and Count Fleet when they lost. Those horses never got revenge for their losses like Secretariat did. We all see here who the greatess is..
@SecretariatSucked first of all shut your diry mouth and anyways why did you have to but on in my comments and say something rude about secretariat just leave me alone and oh yaeh im reporting so ha :D
@SecretariatSucked who do you think you are Secretariat is the best horse in the world the even said it on the news the second best was Man O' War and third was Seabiscuit and watch your filthy dumb mouth disrespecting Secretariat
@SecretariatSucked im not a guy im a girl and im staying 78 pounds and i listen to rap and pop and dont tell me what to do how to do it and when to do mind your own bees wax and change your screen name its disrespectful to have your screen name secretariat sucked because if you owned a race horse then secretariat would be sure to beat your lousy horse
the guy in this video william nack i met him where i live he anwsered all me questions and gave me an autogragh of the bock he gave me he said secreatriatin your heart and he told me you can be a jockey you can do it and ive been 4'9 and 78lbs since second grade so he said you can do it and you will be one and now im training to be one i am going to be jockey my trainer said so
Hey Drewskies..... so every horse has a bad day. So tell me this? How many horses who have won the Triple Crown have won the kentuckey Derby in under 2 minutes? AHHH let me see??? ONE. Guess WHO? What horse broke the Belmont record by 2 and 3/5 seconds AND by the greatest margin of Victory... EVER. Here we are 38 years later, and NO horse has even come close. Say what you want about horse quality in those races, but TIMES DON"T LIE!!! Secretariat would have beaten any of those horses...
@gostanley and i dont know what your talking about but i agree with you 100 percent i think secretariat would have beaten an horse im not really to sure what ur not understanding
Hey drewskies991. Get your facts straight you MORON.... He raced 12 times as a three yr. old. Record was 9 wins 2 seconds and one third. You mihgt want to go back to second grade and re learn how to add. That's only 3 loses in 12 races. You're an ASS???
@gostanley wtf are u talking about you fucking idiot i was talking about his career loses not just his 3 yr old season how about you " go back to second grade" and relearn how to read dumbass
@SwalowBonelesSausage Dude... He finished either 1st or 2nd in 19 of his 21 starts, including 16 wins... You certainly can argue that there have been better thoroughbreds, but you're just making yourself look like a fool, here.. There's no shame in finishing 4th in your 1st race, especially when you go on to win 16 out of the next 20 races..
@SwalowBonelesSausage lmao your obviosuly a fucking moron his first loss was in a maiden race and its the only time he finished out of the money not his 5th loss
@SwalowBonelesSausage - flawless logic- "they" could pump the horse full of an undetectable substance so it could run at a pace the hadn't been approached for the three most watched races, but "they" decided not to pump the horse full of steroids for the lesser known races- I guess "they" we so confident in the effectiveness of these "steroids" that "they" didn't need to try them out ..I also like the "Mafia" controlled syndication group- the Mafia famous for high risk investing!-
You gotta love revisionist lunacy.. Secretariat ran 21 times, won 16 times, and finished in the top 3 20 times.. In fact, the only time he finished out of the money was his first race.. Bonelesssausage is a troll..
Alot of idiots on these comment logs all over the net stirring up shit just to be assholes. The fact is that Secretariat was the greatest horse of all time...just look at how he won.

The horse had a massive heart, which allowed it to pump large volumes of blood through it's muscles, that's what made it great.

too bad this segment wasn't longer because there is so much more to tell about Secretariat and what made him so special.

80cathryn 4 months ago
if you watch closely, when sham and secretariat leave the pack, watch the length of the strides.

There is no evidence Secretariat took steriods but its a fact if he did it did not help him to perform. The Secreatariat haters cannot even use 'Steriods" as an excuse why he ran so fast. They lose every debate. They just do not know what in the hell their talking about.
rscarbro100 5 months ago
According to an article by Dr. Barbara
Forney, a veterinarian practitioner and author, there is no research evidence that supports
anabolic steroids use as a ‘performance enhancing drug.’
Race Horse
Research has shown that anabolic steroids have done little to improve both humans and
horses. “There’s a tendency to look for an external agent as a magic bullet, a magic pill that’s
going to help us perform better. The truth is there isn’t any,” states Dr. Laskowski from the
Mayo Clinic.
rscarbro100 5 months ago
The others couldn't keep up because they were carrying too much mud. Big Red and Ron were hauling so much ass and throwing back so much mud it got harder for the losers to win as the race went on. Not steriods. A great horse with a 21 pound heart and a great jockey hauling ass. Pure and Simple.
oldwatchman 5 months ago
"He is running like a tremendous machine", says it all. He didn't just beat the field and win the triple crown, he DESTROYED the other horses and the records. There's a still picture in this video where I swear this horse is smiling and thinking "Yeah, I'm the best. Did you other guys really think you ever had a chance to beat me?" Secretariat wasn't one of God's once in a life time creations, Secretariat was a only once for ALL time creation.

@UnCircumsizedSmegma You can take The Greek's word, I'll rely on William Nack, who says, on page 245 of his book Secretariat: The Making Of A Champion, this: Jimmy The Greek had never been to the barn at Belmont Park and he was handicapped by a somewhat limited grasp of horse racing...
The Greek was wrong when he said Secretariat wasn't worthy of his notoriety, so he furthered that by spreading BS. As far as a lawsuit, why even answer to something so insane? That just adds credibility to it.

@BrooksRobby5
Not to disagree with any of your picks, but would you not agree that Cigar belongs on that list?

2:24 @ a mile and a half.. And it hasn't been approached in almost 40 years..

@BrooksRobby5 No Ruffian?.. No Secretariat?.. How about Spectacular Bid?.. Why do idiots continue to make lists?..

@SwalowBonelesSausage lmao your obviosuly a fucking moron his first loss was in a maiden race and its the only time he finished out of the money not his 5th loss
drewskies991 6 months ago
@SwalowBonelesSausage im not answering that cause he didnt lose 5 times in the 1973 season how about you get your facts straight you moron
