I don't think the melodic line is angular at all nor is it atonal. It is very singable and done beautifully by this soprano. The underlying 'heartbeat' reinforces the words and one feels life continuing after tragedy. I love the way the piece ends on a hopeful major chord.
A stunning piece of work! The importance of the text was not destroyed by needless angular and atonal writing. The composer clearly has an understanding of vocal writing and the performance is outstanding. Thank you all!
