Tauranga MP Simon Bridges yesterday called Taane a "disgrace" and added: "I'd hope we never see Tiki Taane in Tauranga again." after the singer recited rap song lyrics from the 1998 classic "F@#k Da Police" by american rap group N.W.A. Mr Taane responded to the MPs comments with "Dont throw stones Bridges, especially if youre hiding in a glass house." Taane also said "Im buying a house in Tauranga so I will see you around."
omg thank u so much for posting this, i use to live in Kati Kati where i grew up and snuck off to Tauranga evry 2nd chance i got so many memories, Cheers.
I Live in tauranga And its an awesome place to live but day by day its getting tough to find Jobs here, lots of people are seating with no job and there is a bit of racism here in tauranga.
Im going up to Tauranga in 10days time.. are there any nice foodie places? Nice cafe's or restaurants- any suggestions would be appreciated!! :) We're staying devonport road
Wow, Tauranga looks stupid. Shocking roads too. I bet they have terrible traffic problems. Can it even support it's population growth? I have no idea why people are moving there.
Tauranga is an ugly city in beautiful surrounding. The development of the city is shocking. The City Council is backwards and shortsighted at best. Many people here are very traditional and narrow minded but the worst thing about it, aside from the lack of character and culture (we still don't have a museum!) is the urban development: subdivision of large section and horrible brick and tiles houses on tiny sections. And the Mount isn't better: concrete everwhere. Tauranga needs to wake up.
Yes the city council is horrifyingly backwards. Now they want to charge library users 50cents a book! Unfortunately Tauranga has a sizeable number of penny-pinching, unimaginative elderly people who demand that their elected representatives be as scrooge-like as they are. The local paper, the Bay of Plenty Times, is very establishment and compliant. You actually learn more about what's happening in the city by reading the letters to the editor, than from any of the articles! Sad.
I've only visited Tauranga twice. Once for 4 weeks in August 95 and again for 3 weeks in September 04, but it really is one of the nicest places I've been to. Went to Perth, WA a couple of years back but NZ beats the ass off Australia. People are nicer, more laid back and the scenery... Wow! One of the most beautiful places on this planet. Hope to be back soon.
The new harbour bridge in Tauranga is awsome I row under it every weekend. But the number of permanant residents is booming and in 10 years it is expected the new harbour bridge will be much smaller, but because of the the population raising rapidly it'll be at least 5 to 7 yrs until it needs to be BIGGER! including roads and highways and more City development as it says in description box. Taurangas' prosperity is magnificent, It now has more population than Dunedin!
The natural environment is incredible in Tauranga, and there's a refreshing lack of attitude among the residents. But it's cliquey, and because so many people settle there for "lifestyle" reasons, there's no strong sense of community. That's especially true of the Mount. It's a very "mainstream" place, with a woefully unsophisticated local daily newspaper. There's a lot of money in this town, but it's discreet wealth. Most of the rich have no taste though. I know, I've seen their houses.
I'll be moving to TGA from the uk, as i have family there...looks a very nice place.looking forward to the move, just the long ass plane journey im not looking forward to :(

Tauranga is becoming a joke, Its nearly impossible to find a job, and theres far too many people for the small city that it is.
