  • I still think this was his best alubm "I Predict 1990". Allot of good styles... This was one of my favorite songs.

  • @shufaify The titles, tempo, and "80's sound" are probably what make them seem similar to me. I've listened to both of them many times over the decades and often find myself switching back and forth when trying to hum the tune to just one of them. Faulty brain connection perhaps; it wouldn't be the first.

  • visual and musical masterpiece!!

  • Looks like Coverdale.

  • This must have been at least partially inspired by Roxy Music's "Avalon". It's very similar.

  • @ral1334 It would be impossible for Steve Taylor to have been inspired by Roxy Music's song Avalon... the album Avalon is on ("Heart Still Beating") came out in 1990, while Steve Taylor's I Predict 1990 came out in 1987. :)

  • Awesome SONG! All about The USA corrupted in its core now! As Was Prophesied about it/her! Cannot wait to say GOOD BYE forever! to all the corruption and degregation inside of its' walls.. Shalom, A True KingdomWarrior

  • Steve was more of the eccentric artists of the time so this song wasnt one of my faovirtes the vidoe is intrguing. It was during an era where musicvideos where still young and being experimented with too so interesting to see what he did here.

  • This music video always flummoxes me. The song seems so... normal. But the visuals are goofy. Is there one particular video that he's mocking?

  • You know, if you're familiar with the role that the nation Babylon played in the Old Testament, then this song takes on added significance. As I recall, Steve is the son of a preacher, and has himself had a fair amount of theological education. Much of his music, like this song, interpret modern living through the prism of biblical history.

  • I love this song.

  • This takes me back good, In the 80s I listen to Steve Taylor most the time, Thanks for the post.

  • Forgot about this song. While Jars have been recognized as one of the best, Taylor was the original bringing Christian music into its own.

  • I actually prefer the style and sound he had and used in the songs from 'I Predict 1990' and earlier as opposed to his more recent stuff. As you said though, his lyrics surpass, by a long ways, IMO.

  • "That snare sound was hip once, right?" Like most of Taylor's 80s output, the songwriting holds up, but man, I wish the production values sounded less dated.

  • Wow..It's been forever since I've seen this...

thanks for posting. I spent alot of probably 3 years listening to this tape over and over.

  • Great vid for a great song
