  • Ian sings from his heart, he's a real cowboy and rancher, and still singing, we are blessed to have him.

  • Reminds me of me and my friends place where our motto is if it aint broke your not trying lol

  • I quickly read through the comments and it seems no one noticed that that girl in the pickup is country singer Becky Hobbs.

  • I miss western music, tough to find songs like this nowadays.

  • The way she is looking at him out of that pickup you know she is a dirty ole hide.

  • This song is so true !

  • Ditto

  • Love this song... Never saw this video before - perfect! Reminds me of all too many old ranchers around here.

  • check out dave stamey "buckaroo" man too if you like real cowboy music, usually a link for it on the side

  • now this is real country! buckaroo style

  • Hey snellben,

  • Is that David Bellamy driving the truck? I know that pretty lady is non other than The Beckaroo herself, Miss Becky Hobbs.

  • when it comes to Ian, let us specify, (us being me) what we need is a new album, yes, and for you , Ian, to come out to us once again. Not just Alberta, but the rest of us want to see you, you are a true Canadian Ideal

  • This is a great video. I really laugh evertime I see the horse run away at 1:10-1:20! I been there several time myself!

  • Song so fits my ranch, horses too , seem too have to hoofit to catch them....hope these high cattle price hold thru fall....

  • wonderful video captures ian perfectly he is a true treasure. his music and voice get me through my days

  • Anyone know the chords ?

  • @gringotroller cowboy lyrics.com i would post a link but youtube wont let me

  • Eighteen inches of rain, wow, a lot of water. Ian Tyson sings great. Love the easy going soothing nature of the vid and

song. Thanks, really nice and it was absolutely worhwhile watching.

  • @rooidiertjie i think he is talkin bout over the whole season, if im not mistaken thats the optimal ammount for the best crop

  • great about the boots, actually it makes sense, what mrAzrancher is saying, but i am so happy people like Ian, the kind of last singing cowboy,. He really is more of an Alberta rancher, though, just sings sometimes these days.We love him, though.

  • The original "american" boots where square toed and low heeled and had no left or right, either boot worked on either foot. Only wealthy men could aford custom hand made boots with good leather and left/right designations. The mexican vaquero's used the pointed to high heeled boots which the texans later adopted which became the traditional "cowboy" boot. Now we have moved away from the high underslung heels and high tops and pointed toes.

  • sounds like ranchin to me

  • As I have read; cowboys boots started out being one offs from old army boots. Cowboys needed tougher and more suitable equipment than before. As I hear it may have started in Kansas or Texas in the day of the big drives. Glad we still got some ol good cowboy singers that are good lyricists. That new stuff, I just don't know what to make of it. :)

  • I LOVE this video! What a great performer, and this shows his sense of humor, as well.

As for those boots, well, I break horses and still wear lace-up packers. They walk alot better in the mountains than slip-ons. I live in northern Colorado. But I could've stayed on that horse, and Ol' Ian would've too...that's what makes this video so much fun! I wonder how many times the camera man made that 60-some (at the time) cowboy take that dive before they called it good?!!!!?

  • Folks that don't know make fun of cowboy boots, some say they come from Spanish dancers ... them folks that know are grin'n ear to ear to see Ol' Ian get his boot outa that stirrup, cause he could still have his foot in a lace boot and be on a hell of a ride. ( Would make a good song tho) I really enjoyed your presentation and even tho i hail from Arizona i sure like Ian Tyson's singin'. I would sure like to see someone stick MC Horses on You Tube showin' that fine old outfit. PURTY WORK!

  • Never heard of this singer till a few hours ago when a canadian friend told me about him. I love him.

  • ian tyson is great.

  • his best is "half mile of hell" you gotta be from alberta to understand it tho

  • half mile of hell another good song reminds me when i used to work the chuckwagons,

  • Thank you for this beautiful video.... I love Tyson... all the way back to his days of Four Strong Winds.....

  • this guy could sing his way out of a razorback chicken shack and come out clean -lol

  • mc horses is the best song by ian tyson but it is not on youtube

  • i love the part at 2.12

  • Hey CopenhagenSnuff15g - I love the part at 1.49 as I see visual proof he is my relative. See, I promised my old dead dad, George Tyson, that I would find all his relatives in Canada. We lived in England at the time. Dads family were split between 2 countries many years before I was born. I've been in Canada searching off and on for 9 yrs. I've found 2cousins and an uncle plus their kids over here. At 1.49 Ian is the spitten image of my dad. Aww. Thanks for posting this Lippman.

    Jessie Tyson

  • Jessie, have you tried contacting Ian? You may be onto something, I'm pretty sure his family was from England--part of the lively subculture of expatriate English gentleman ranchers in Alberta about a hundred years back. Good luck.

    Bill

  • I just got his new CD from Hitching Post Supply.

  • I could listen to this song a million times and not get tired of it. Go easy Ian.

  • Love the video-very sweet! Love those horses too!

  • Never heard of him before--but he is good!

  • Yes he is, - no more like him these days. You might check out "Ian & Sylvia" also, kinda his earlier day.

  • Ian and Sylvia were hugely popular folk singers in the early 1960s. They were pioneers in the country rock movement and Ian Tyson has been focusing on cowboy songs recently. They are also fantastic song writers. They wrote Someday Soon, You Were On My Mind, Summer wages and 4 Strong Winds among many others.

  • The closest I'll ever get to being a cowboy is renting "Dances With Wolves" but Ian Tyson's music fires the imagination. Thanks for putting this up!

    Bill

  • Ha Ha

  • That is an excellant comparison of quality but Dances was about being big enough to reach out and reach down and be an Indian word , Human. You dont have to have cows to be a man, but you have to be a man to raise cattle. Tyson is a good hand and he plays down the part in a very humble fashion. In other words he wished he had stayed in bed but he knew better than .Its about trying your best even if its not good enough sometimes. Never a horse and never a cowboy as they say. You have a good one.

  • @wmstrop try corb lund

  • @iranoob17 I just picked up a CD by Corb Lund called "Losin' Lately Gambler". Some good stuff here. Good call on your part!

    Bill

  • @wmstrop yea i have all his tracks i like shine up my boots

  • @wmstrop sorry i forgot to put my name on my last one i sent you its jeremy. you have a good one

  • @wmstrop ummm...Dances with Wolves is crap if you're lookin for a cowboy movie. John Wayne made about 100 western and each one is heads above that Costner flick. But if you want true cowboy life, watch Lonesome Dove.

  • @wmstrop This video will get to real cowboying quicker than Dances with Wolves, Bill. Can't remember seeing a single cow in that movie, let alone a cowboy. Pretty good Western, but not a cowboy movie.

  • the cowboy of my childhood right here, great song and great artist

  • It takes a real cowboy to sing about bein' one. Thanks for the video!

  • I'm surprised I haven't thanked you for this before, I've watched it a number of times. Title song from my favorite solo Ian album, though far from my favorite song. replying to other comments: I'm sorry that Ian has disowned songs like "Barney," which is one of his very best. Maybe even now it's hard to sing that one. It does seem like it could fit into his current "sound," unlike some of the others. People can still get the album, in a reissue on Bear Family as The Beginning of the End.

  • "...has disowned songs like "Barney," which is one of his very best. Maybe even now it's hard to sing that one"

I saw every performance Ian & Sylvia ever did at The Cellar Door in Washington DC in the early 70s ... probably 30+ shows? I don't recall that song, and I'd sure have remembered it.

I think you may be right. We do horse & dog rescue, mostly the old ones no one wants, and I don't think I could sing a song like that for long. No matter how many times you do it, it just gets harder.

  • Geeze. She looks just like Sylvia would with short hair! Pretty consistent guy.

  • Would somebody please put on the song's spring time and the coyote and the cowboy by Ian tyson. I have been looking for those two songs for years!!!!!!!Video or not just the songs I dont care please?

  • One of Ian's most starkly beautiful songs is "Barney". It's about a cowboy who has to put down his faithful old horse. This song never fails to move me to tears. Unfortunately, it's part of that huge body of old songs that he has disowned. I met and spoke with Ian once. I urged him to consider reviving this poetic beauty. I wish that everyone who gets the chance would make the same request.

  • Hella I'M A GREAT FAN OF THIS EXCELLENT IAN TYSON

    Plse send to me Thankssssssssssssssssssssss:)))))))))))luv

  • Great video. MORE IAN...PLEASE!!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Ian Tyson is a Canadian legend, and it's a shame there isn't more foorage of him that's readily acessible. He wrote this song with Pat Alger, who used to write a lot of songs with a country singer named Garth...something lol

  • I used to live in Cochrane. I grew up on Ian Tyson's stuff. If you can find it, look for Navajo Rug. That's probably my favorite song from my childhood :)

  • Nice video!!! This is my first time viewing this wonderful video of Ian Tyson! Nice song too! I have his cd! :-)

  • Ian is a jewel! Very rare footage. Excellent film quality. Amazon is the place to buy!!! right?

  • Thank you SO much for putting this video on. You don't see Tyson video's that much.

  • wish ian tyson had more videos.

  • how I can relate, but from a cowgirls down on the luck perspective, good ole Ian! thank you for sharing.
