It is fine the way he measure because he want to mesure the hallway from front to back. He just didn't finish measuring the whole hallway. So if he continue it would be front to backwall agian until reach the background painting. If he were to measure the distance of the room space then yes you are right becasue he do need to measure the outside of the wall and ended his measurement at the outside or measure inside of wall to inside of wall.
That was a great tutorial, but you gotta' tone your voice acting and overly energetic enunciations down. It's a bit much and is very distracting. Otherwise, great job.
