  • "There's no real huge difference. It's just that you can think of chimps as MS-DOS and humans as Windows 2000."

    I love that quote.

  • This is so true, my fascination for nature, and to ask questions made me see that this world could not have been created by some type of deity, when it's so much more complex than any scripture ever written. Oh how I wish more people could see this and ask questions! I wish my bf, could see this documentary and have a change of mind, I know he wont though.=)

  • 8:11 - 8:37 It really does make one reflect on their life.

VoF's earlier discussion on indoctrinating children is a very powerful point. As silly as it may seem to bring childhood shows into this, I grew up watching shows like "Beakman's World", "Bill Nye the Science Guy", and "The Magic School Bus" as an impressionable 5-7 year old, and my family started to attend church regularly by the time I was 7-8. Without that exposure to science, I might not be watching this video as an atheist today.

  • OK, who's the ass hat that handled the background music? It seems so inappropriate at times...

  • That last saying at the end of the video from him was simply brilliant.

    Bless this man.

  • :/ sometimes I wish I was a cat, then I won't have to deal with the nonsense that is civilization.

  • Another great documentary.

I'll be watching the others on your channel.

  • Maaaaan! The last few minutes of this interview is in Garden of the Gods, I live like 2 minutes from there! I wwould ave been like hey dawkins lol

  • I am a huge fan of Richard Dawkins and I am agnostic, but I seriously am shocked by the last minute or so of this. Could you really say to a poor child with HIV living in a third world country, or a homeless man living on the streets desperately struggling for a meal a day, How much more do you want? Its absolutely insulting. And I'm sure those people do not feel privileged to be here and many would happily give their life to one of the billions of people who would never be born.

  • @cyprokka Religions discourage the use of contraceptive methods in third world countries and most homeless people (in not, all) are there because they chose the wrong path, they chose the path of alcohol, drugs and/or unemployment.

Don't be insulted by Dawkins, be insulted by the religions that think that a God is causing it for the greater good.

  • @Denladouceur Certainly true in that religions discourage contraception, but that doesn't change the fact that those affected by it are victims and to ask them "what more do you want?", would be a grave insult. And how about the homeless people who are just victims of an unfair capitalist system? Those people are not rare to come by. I'm not standing up for religion, it is dangerous and deeply insulting. But that doesn't make the question asked by Dawkins any less insulting.

  • @cyprokka those are the very same people that see a way out of their hell hole of a life when people spout crap like "Blow up the world trade center for us, and get 70 virgins!"

  • @leafblight27 Oh I see, blame it on the victims because one day when the world shits on them one too many times, they become desperate to find a way out and look for the nearest exit. Obviously thats not the smart thing to do, but can you really blame them? I mean when your life is down the toilet, are you gonna turn to someone who says "what more do you want?" or someone who says "blow up the world trade center for us, and get 70 virgins!"

  • @cyprokka >thinks im trying to get into an internet argument. -_-

  • what a brave courageous and inspiring individual

  • Love him

    I wonder if this is a sign? {Oh shit, the beast has it in for me, eh?}

  • The last few minutes were truly awesome.

  • Amazing ending.. wow

  • As an atheist with a teenage child, I find this Dawkins series to be an invaluable teaching tool. Many thanks for uploading.

  • This guy fucked Mrs Garrison....

  • such an amazing end to this part in the documentary. such beautiful ideals

  • Mr. Dawkins' last words there were so unbelievably beautiful. :*)

  • Morality is a lot older than religion.

  • The ending was touching and heartwarming.

  • I was catholic, now I'm a free thinker :)

  • I cannot help but blush over mr.dawkins...I find him rather handsome, intelligent, and that voice....very soothing....

  • @NecKClippA George Carlin? :)

  • simply wow

  • *Facepalm* At 7:23, I half expected him to go "Look around you. Just...look around you. Have you figured out what we're looking for?". I think I've seen too much British media XD

  • Most religions are a noble effort to build a peaceful society. But the sacred texts meant to be followed are written by man, and man makes mistakes and gets carried away. However, this is the 21st century, we don't have to rely on a fear of a higher being to understand wrong from right, and in fact, religion is holdin us back from total planatary unity.

  • @MegaWarsaw Peaceful doesnt describe most religions in my book

  • @Oldcartoons571 Notice I said: "Noble Effort"

  • So the bible is basically about this concept.

If you don't sieg Heil Jesus he will send you to an eternal fiery concentration camp.

  • @NecKClippA oh yes. he is "GOOD"

  • 5:50 -

I couldn't have put it better

  • God-Discriminates by religion, sends people of a different religion to a fiery pit

Hitler-Discriminates by religion, sends people of a different religion to a concentration camp

  • i just want to know why the chimps in this part of the video have such weirdly patchy hair! is it fighting, shedding, age, illness??

  • I just fell in love with Richard Dawkins. He is an awesome teacher of science. Thank you so much for being our voice.

    Sincerely,

A self made and happy Atheist from a muslim background.

  • @rarehman oh wow, I have never met aan atheist from a muslim background, I am an atheist as well from a muslim background YAY :)

  • @dua333 wow! me too! wait... well I was born atheist, but I'm in a Muslim society, does that count?

  • @rarehman where r u from?

  • @rarehman

I am amazed to hear a former muslim who turned atheist, because of what is taught about leaving islam. Can I ask you were you raised muslim from as long as you were born, and were you raised in a muslim country or a multicultural country like England?

    A curious swede, thanks.

  • @rarehman He is indeed a handsome man.

  • @rarehman you have a truly gifted mind, can't imagine how difficult that was. from a born catholic turned atheist.

  • @rarehman Could not have put it better myself from an atheist from a muslim background

  • @rarehman I don't think it is any more possible to agree with you, Richard Dawkins is the type of person we need more in this world.

I too am a self made and happy Atheist as well, but from a fundamental evangelical christian background.

  • @rarehman I too am a Atheist from a Muslim (Somali in particular) background. I've always felt alone in my household until I discovered that my younger brother (who is only about a year younger) came to the same personal conclusion himself. We both found our paths through our love of science, and we're both admirers of Richard Dawkins.

I've always wondered how many more us there are out there, afraid of expressing their views.

  • @blackflashist There is a belief that the tendency to hold stronger religious beliefs has a genetic component (i.e., "the God gene"). Ironically, that makes me much more sympathetic to believers.

  • @rarehman Oh wow, from a muslim background. How did you go about telling your family this? My father is a muslim and I am terrified of being disowned for it...

  • @dancesonpoles your father should love you for who you are and NOT for your opinions or beliefs.

  • @jack3volution He should...but unfortunately it's just not that simple with such religious parents.

  • Religion: All siliness, no evidence.

  • that ending line was absolutely beautiful

  • @beautifulwhitecat Technically we are all free of all sins because jesus paid for our sins. That's god's words. That means we are free to do as we please., because they have been paid for. We are all sinner, so either we all go hell or we don't thanks to jesus. That is the whole concept of the bible. You cant please God, we are imperfect beings with sins written all over our DNA since the time adam ate the apple. I am certain you have sinned many times in your life. The bible contradicts itself

  • @chiragrulze Something's missing here. God gave us a free gift but we must accept it. If we reject Him, we cannot accept His most precious sacrifice of His one and only Son Jesus Christ.

  • @beautifulwhitecat LMFAO!!!!!!!!

  • @beautifulwhitecat have you ever heard of the saying " there is no such thing as a free lunch"

  • brilliant man

  • OMG we are Windows 2000? I am reeling right now...

  • We have a turd in the punch bowl, repeat, turd in the punch bowl.

  • @NecKClippA Yes, God is love. He is also a righteous judge. We are criminals in His eyes because we have broken His law aka the 10 commandments. When we have broken 1 law, we have become guilty of them all. Most people have at least lied once in their lifetime. This breaks the 9th commandment. Jesus took our punishment for us so God can legally dismiss our case. He doesn't wish for any of us to perish but to spend eternity with Him.

  • @beautifulwhitecat Do you realise how absolutely ridiculus and immoral you sound?

  • @NecKClippA Yes I do understand how I sound ridiculous. How is morality determined without God? How can anyone be immoral without any rules to live by? 1 Cor 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

  • @beautifulwhitecat How is morality determined with your god? Your god is hateful and is utterly deprived of any morals or reasoning.

We get our morals from ourselves, if we do something bad, something bad will likely happen to us, hence we don't do anything bad.

It's not hard to understand at all, it's a basic human principle every sane person adheres to.

  • @KreatorRage Even if you choose not to accept it, God has laid out the moral code for all of us to follow. It is perfect, just and holy just as the dear Lord is.

  • @beautifulwhitecat Beautiful white cat, I have some things to tell you that you may not really want to hear. God is nothing but a personal experience, made intenser by the gathering of your fellow church members. There is currently no proof for god, and the proof against god is stacking up. I think god could forgive you for looking up some science videos or some atheist videos, just to see the other side. I don't think a just god would be mad at you for questioning him. I hope you see the light.

  • @MeepullStewray How could I know how to answer you guys if I didn't look up what your leader, Dawkins, believes. I want to bring the foolishness of atheism to light. The proof for God is found in His creation. He created it all and we should give Him thanks instead of ignoring Him. It is appointed for a man to die once and then comes the judgement. Are you ready? It doesn't matter what you believe. It matters whether it is true or not. He is the way, the truth and the life.

  • @beautifulwhitecat Dawkins is not a leader of atheists. Its quite unreasonable to assign a leader to a group of people who don't believe in a god. I ask of you nicely to actually watch, or read some truly accurate information that is standing against your god and see why we are really non believers. It will change your mind if you just open your eyes. Don't give me that way the light and truth stuff, I've been to church all my life. This is the real truth. I had been deceived all those years,.

  • @beautifulwhitecat move to north korea

  • Stop being so arrogant Professor Dawkins. I am sure you have heard that before

  • whats up with those ringworm chimps lol

  • Either they could explain this atheist (aspiritual??) morality in more detail, or there are gaping holes left in it. Of course you don't do morder or rape, because rotting in jail is no fun. If there is no afterlife, than a hedonism is the rule. Why should one be nice to others? Why bother to care for enviroment? The life stops to be about being good person, it turns about doing whatever you want, and not being caught on particulary nasty pleasures. PS. try to make any goverment endorse that ;)

  • actually people that live in fear of going to hell, or the promise of heaven when you die are more likely to hold themselves above all else in life (reality) because they figure "if things go badly here on earth, at least I am going to heaven". this inflated view of humans, that we are somehow more important than the environment or the future of the earth, makes it all ok for religious people. atheists live in the current realty of this world, and see things with reason, not as a fleeting event

  • @ct1762 your answer is a) limited to christian point of view, with heaven and hell, which is biased but understandable b) implies that in christian morality polluting enviroment is not a sin, which is ... I don't know, I not one of them. But I think that they belive that if one fails at being a good person here, he goes to hell actually c) explain nothing about atheistic morality. And whatever you think about it, human life is a fleeting event.

  • @szaroki if you eat to much you end up with indigestion so hedonism isnt all that good of a choice.

  • @szaroki How about not being a dick and work towards a better world for all who will live on this planet after us?

  • The only bigger fool I know of than Mr Dawkins is Satan himself. Believe Satan's lies if you really want to and live it up here on Earth sinning as you please. So maybe you will have 100 good years to live any way you want. What about eternity? That's a little bit longer than 100 years or so don't you think? Don't spend an eternity in torment in Hell's flames where there is no rest. Christ died for us because He loves us! Repent now while you still have breath!

  • @beautifulwhitecat Why wood an all loving God, prosecute major portions of humanity to eternal suffering. Take the example of homosexuality, God gave the homosexual free will, but inclined him with an attraction to something he hates, so he may burn for all eternity. A great many sins can be linked to sexuality, but then why are we designed to enjoy such stimulation, why do we hunger for it. I know you'll say God gave us free will, but that makes it worse that he would set such traps. A. no God

  • @goldeyeblue Yes He did give us free will to choose from right and wrong. The following verse from the Bible makes it clear that God does not tempt someone with homosexuality. Satan sure will though and he delights in a lustful heart.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

James 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

  • @beautifulwhitecat So your saying the devil made the human sex drive a universal lust, how could he do this and why would god let him. This possibility is irrational, since every human has a sex drive, biologically proven to be primarily for reproduction.Take another sin, like telling a lie, or stealing. If your poor on the street you might need to, to survive. Why does God take lie's so personally, why if we choose an alternative religion and live good lives are we still hell bound.

  • @beautifulwhitecat The god of the Bible condoned murder, rape, incest, slavery, genocide, infanticide, etc., etc., etc....

Yahweh is one of the most malevolent, vindictive, and violent entities to ever disgrace a holy book.

I was a Christian for twenty years....becoming more familiar with my Bible resulted in my apostasy.

  • @CynicalSkeptic1 I really don't believe that you were ever truly a "born again" believer in this case. He gave us life and He can also take life anytime He chooses. In Psalm 111:10, the Bible tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. He is love. He is gracious and merciful but He is a righteous Judge too. This is what seems to concern you most about the old testament. Psalm 7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

  • @beautifulwhitecat That's funny....I thought I believed in Christianity....for twenty years....but perhaps I was only 'faking' it.

There is no more reason to believe in the biblical god than any of the other thousands of gods which man has invented throughout the ages. If you were born in a different place and time then you would most certainly worship a completely different god and deny the validity of all other gods.

  • @CynicalSkeptic1 Well, my husband comes from another place very far from the USA known as China. His father is an atheist and his mother is a Buddhist. He was also taught to be a Buddhist. Before I knew him, he chose to become a follower of Christ after meeting Christian friends who told him of the one true God and Savior. We now serve Jesus together! : D

  • @beautifulwhitecat I was raised as a Christian, and suffered years of depression and anxiety, most likely due to my forced indoctrination into Christianity. I will never force the children I may have to sit in a church and be told they are going to hell for living their lives as they are wont to do. If you think putting someone in the hands of a malevolent, indolent god, then I'm sorry to break it to you, but you may be a huge fool yourself.

Oh, and I won't be repenting anytime soon :D

  • @piousraptor I understand that God's word is really offensive to you because you supress the truth in unrighteousness. I would be horribly depressed and anxious too if I knew I were going to spend an eternity in Hell. Enjoy your wickedness while you can! It is all up to you. John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. Mark 9:48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

  • @beautifulwhitecat Basing opinion on the bible, everyone knows that the holy teapot made by spagethi monster is the true creator of the cosmos.

  • @gumme1234 It sounds like you are on some pretty heavy drugs because that is not what the Bible (AKA God's word) says.

  • @beautifulwhitecat

It might as well say that. Seems just as sensible.

  • @beautifulwhitecat what if i were high?

  • @gumme1234 I pray that you are not hurting your body is all. Also, if you are high you will not be able to think with a clear mind and conscience. God gave us our bodies so we should glorify Him in them.

  • @beautifulwhitecat What a wierd god you got, he creates man to get praised, that is selfish. If i were god i would not base peoples faith in an old book.

  • @gumme1234 He doesn't need our praise really, but since He gave us that which we do not deserve, we should praise Him for giving us anything at all. I would absolutely agree with you if it were just any old book but the Bible is God's word. This lets us know what we should and should not be doing. Also, it tells us of the precious sacrifice God made of His only Son so that we could be saved and spend eternity with Him.

  • @beautifulwhitecat What i read: The world is 6000 years old even though we can see things that is million light years away, it is possible to break the laws of physichs, when you die you arent dead, all gods is wrong but mine because i say so, im affraid of death, year old 3000 sand people knew more about cosmology than modern day scientist.

    *god*

i will create flawed people so i can put them in hell and later murder my self so they wont go to hell and then later put then in hell for sinning.

  • @gumme1234 Eve was deceived and Adam willfully ate of the fruit that God had commanded them not to eat. This is from Genesis 3. He created them perfect yet gave them free will. They chose to disobey and this meant they would someday die. This is how death came into the world. I couldn't die for you so you could be forgiven because I too have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Jesus became our sacrifice on the cross because He is the only sinless and spotless person to have lived.

  • @beautifulwhitecat An you base that on what evidence? none

  • @gumme1234 Eyewitness testimony from those who were there. : )

  • @beautifulwhitecat That is not evidence, it can easly be false

  • @beautifulwhitecat So what, you view death as a sin?

  • @beautifulwhitecat So, you like a deity who says things like this? "Samaria will be desolated, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword, their infants will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open." Hosea 13:16 Just take a look at much of the Old Testament in the bible. It makes me sad that you support the killing of babies. :(

  • religion parasites life whatever life does religion goes after it to try to drain it out at make death. they only feed about it fuckers. even the religious people know there is no divinity on earth but they are cowards for them there is always somebody superor to them to what they defend themselves outrigthgeously.

  • What's with the hairless chimps?

  • If humans of today are Windows 2000 then religious people must have forgotten to upgrade from Windows ME.

  • @crax83

not windows me.... more like... windows 1.0

  • in his closing remarks he should have said we are all lucky to be here... Thanked God!

  • @barbiejr haha, good one

  • Has Richard Dawkins ever taken psychedelics? It would be interesting to see if it changes his ideas any.

  • Chimps are MS DOS and human's are Windows 2000

    Bahahaha this is so old!

  • @tomorrowneverknows94 Actually, I think he was just insulting humans there...

  • Lol at that Chimp part where it show "Root of all evil?" lmao.

*Assume that chimps are the root of evil*

    xD

  • what's with the "root of all evil" every time?

  • @245800A that is the title of this series. the virus of faith is an episode of the root of all evil series.

  • @hvhfyjtdhf oooooh now i get it! Thanks ^_^

  • @245800A I think that was the original name of the documentary.

  • beautiful ending. I find that religion fiddles with two sacred things that should only ever be learned/experienced in a subjective way: spirituality and sexuality.

  • hi im a mac, an over priced, hipster. i believe in whatevers cool :)

  • we should make the most of our time while alive!

  • The last 2 minutes sum up my view on life. I think I'll etch those words in stone, meet once a week with like minded people, make a statue of Dawkins, break bread in memory of him, collect money so I can share his message.......

  • @monster762 And kill the people who oppose him. You would be doing Dawkins proud.

  • @TheAndiePerson Oh yes, thanks for reminding me.

  • @monster762 LOL That's too good.

  • atleast he didn't say windows Vista lol

  • FUCK we are windows 2000

  • @doominator69 Not me, I'm Linux. Fast, virus free, no lock ups, no sin and no God. lol

  • Only what you want to believe and see and thing about of being real... for you will be as real as it gets.

  • And I might add, you never really were alive. Even for science its impossible to describe what life really is about, but there's no need for it.. Some religious people seem to be so afraid of the idea that things can operate on a different level.

You dont need God, God just needed you for him to be real.. even though he isnt.

  • Those last words, I find really beautiful. I couldn't add too much to that, cause to me and many others thats it.

And sure you sometimes would think that it would be great if there was more, but indeed what more do you want?

Sure, this is it... but thats just for this form.. this way of seeing the world and interpretating it. Death isnt really death, and certainly nothing to be afraid of... your building blocks will stay out there in nature, so you never really die.

  • I never thought of life like that. I thought of it as an endless eddy of despair, but gave changed my perspective.

  • "The I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine."

From the look of those chimps, they've been doing too much back scratching. They look like they have the mange

  • He just says what i've been thinking my whole life ...

keep it up my atheist friend(s)

  • Dawkins - You Know He's Right.

  • Dear Richard Dawkins,

Please debate Dr. William Lane Craig in a public debate. He has debated the majority of your fellow atheists and now challenges you. Please stop running and make your stand. As one of the foremost defenders of the Christian faith, Dr. Craig has challenged you multiple times and you have refused time and time again.

  • as arrogant as he can be, he does prove a valid point.

  • I almost cried watching this; beautiful. Religous people can't see that atheism frees you: it doesn't condemn you. Live every single moment in this life to the very fullest; do NOT be satisfied and complacent. We have the gift of conciousness; let's use it.

  • In a few centuries atheists will be so more advanced than religious people that we would be like Gods in terms of technology...

  • @leegeorgeson Then could we pleeeeassse treat them like their "god" treats humanity, i.e. kill the bastards?

  • That means our only hope for immortality is if we find a way to prolong our lifespan through science. Otherwise... wormfood.

  • Amazing ending.

  • Great Windows/Microsoft reference! =-] Now all we need is a Linux reference and all will be revealed to us! Oh and did anyone else get Rebecca Black's Friday as a recommended video?

  • @xdavidxgrovesx Obviously! Black friday is very relevant to this movie, lovely song!

  • @xdavidxgrovesx Obviously! Black friday is very relevant. Lovely song :D

Also linux reference would be great!

  • Great Windows/Microsoft reference! =-] Now all we need is a Linux reference and all will be revealed to us!

  • The true words of Dawkins and his way of expressing his beliefs is so beautiful. It hurts to have to close this window.

  • ok you have heard this side of the story if you are open minded read the case for faith and do some study of your own and see the other side of thing as well

  • Why do those chimps look so sickly?

  • from 8:00 to 8:42, EPIC

  • I would like to think that there is something after death; possibility dictates itself. BUt I do not know what that something is. I wish for it to be kind, not just for me, but for everyone. And there is nothing wrong with that. There are living creatures in this world who suffer without being able to stand up and say, I will think this way, I will live this way. This argument, i think, could be seen as being against religion AND atheism... What remains for us then? That is the question/answer?

  • I would like to think that there is something after death; possibility dictates itself. BUt I do not know what that something is. I wish for it to be kind, not just to me, but for everyone. • anyone else wondering why the chimps are all going bald?

  • @andrewgoulet93 yes, i was wondering that too.. might be some kind of mange... or over-grooming through stress... some kind of over shedding mechanism... I too would like to know.

  • I just realized how lucky i am to be alive

  • It's true that the basic laws of morality are common sense, but there are other morality laws that are not as obvious. For example: forgiveness instead of vengeance. Common sense tells you that if someone hurts you, you should hurt them back. But this creates a cycle of violence that will escalate as time goes on.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 No, common sense tells you that if you would benefit from having that person around, the logical thing to do would be forgiveness. Common sense also tells you that if you can suffer from vengeance, it is not the logical option.

Think before you speak, use the common sense you have.
