@HM60428 I see no reason to accept that these ten commandments came from the divine. They were clearly taken from the Code of Hammurabi. The earliest possible date proposed for the exodus is 1450 BCE. The Code of the Babylonian king Hammurabi dates to 1790 BCE and declares that perjury, theft, murder and marital infidelity are morally wrong and punishable by the state.
A citizen’s right to violate the remaining commandments is protected by the first amendment which trumps biblical law.

I am an atheist and I do not mind if anyone puts up a nativity scene on their property. Whether its a bank, a store, a house and so on I really don't care. BUT I do care if a Government owned building does so. They should never put anything up that catering towards one religion. Separation of church and state should be followed here.

You are awakening the Church and stirring it into action. Because of you and your group we sent a stack of training courses to the churches in Henderson to teach them how to share their faith, and we have a team going there in January.

You are an incredibly intelligent individual as evidenced by your posts and could argue circles around me all day, however unlike me there are many scientists that are as highly educated as you and believe in creation not because of a blind faith but because of scientific evidence. What are their reasons? If creationisn is true and somebody could prove it to you would you be open to believing in it? If not then there is no point to all of this discussion.

As for the matter at hand, seems that too many groups, foundations, organizations, and individuals want to force their way of life down everyone's throats that it is pissing me off. As a soldier I am sick of fighting and training to defend the American way of life only to have some idiot that sits behind a desk telling others what they can or cannot do. Get real people. The earliest possible date proposed for the exodus is 1450 BCE. The Code of the Babylonian king Hammurabi dates to 1790 BCE and declares that perjury, theft, murder and marital infidelity are morally wrong and punishable by the state.
A citizen’s right to violate the remaining commandments is protected by the first amendment which trumps biblical law.

There is simply no empirical evidence to support the validity of the Ten Commandments as being some sort of wisdom from the divine. As I pointed out, it was inspired by earlier sources.
I generally do not lie. I am usually only deceptive when I allow those I encounter casually to assume I am a Christian. I would prefer to be open and honest, but I need to keep my job.
The whole idea of Hell is both sick and silly.

On Judgement Day your whole life will be shown back to you, your words and your thoughts. You will not go to Hell for all of your good deeds. You will go to Hell without the blood of the Passover Lamb covering you.

No one claims humans evolved from monkeys; however, all primates share a common ancestry.
Devolution is not a biological term. Organisms may evolve in a way that causes the loss of an attribute. For example, the hind legs of whales evolved into vestigial limbs.
Regardless, disproving biological evolution will not absolve you of the burden of proving creationism.

These individuals are always welcomed to submit their findings to established peer reviewed scientific journals. Should one of them effectively discredit biological evolution they would surely be awarded a Nobel Prize. Finding rabbit bones in pre-Cambrian rock strata would do it nicely.
Again, disproving biological evolution does absolve one of the burden of proving creationism.

There are tests which can objectively demonstrate the existence and properties of gravity. Anyone performing these experiments will arrive at the same results. The same is not true for Hell.

@catomember Christianity, like all of the Abrahamic faiths, is not noted for its tolerance. No biblical passages advocate tolerance toward those who worship other gods or follow no gods at all.
The idea of tolerance toward other faiths came from the Puritan founder of Rhode Island, Roger Williams. He was an early advocate for religious freedom and the separation of church and state.
There is a tyrannized minority of non-Christians in Athens, Texas. They are good Texans, too.

@catomember The founding fathers were far more influenced by the thinkers and writers of the Enlightenment, than any of the biblical narratives. After all, the radical notion that each individual is born with certain intrinsic rights that can not be infringed upon by either a king or a nation is not to be found within the bible. It is found in the writings of Locke, Voltaire, Condorcet, etc.
Had the crafters of the U.S.A. wanted to form a Christian nation, they would have written it into law.

henderson county placed the nativity scene during the Christmas holiday becuase Christmas is about obout thing and one thing only, the birth of Christ. the nativity simply represents his birth. you are not being forced to do anything.

The fact that a date holds significance to a religion does not entitle its adherents to tyrannize others. Would you also support Islamic dominance during Ramadan?
