I am 28 years old and I have ADHD. I agree that Adderall in my case was a terrible medication. It made me worse instead of better. However, there are other medications for ADHD that do not harm children. Also to the person who said their son died from being "addicted" to the medication. It is possible your son was misdiagnosed. Stimulants, such as amphetamine and even cocaine have a different effect on people with ADHD. It allows them to focus. Do not shun ADHD meds. I should take mine more.
My son was diagnosed with ADD and prescribed an amphetamine at age 12. He died Nov 4th, 2009 from his addiction. He was on the Dean's list for 2 years before he spiraled out of control and could not stop. He doctor shopped, and more. They learn the tricks, and how to lie. See the new warnings from the FDA site. It ruins their enjoyment of life, and damages the brain's stop go decision center. A teacher made the call. He was smart sweet and no trouble at home. Thank God for Griefshare.
