a like your metro a hav 1 with the same interior but can I av your glove box nah am only kidding she looks sweet y did u av the choke on when she was warm
My God thats so rare, this car was made when i was 12 (i'm 40 now) how did you stop it from dissolving away? It's passed from being new, then used,on to the not too old but affordable stage, to old banger status and finally into the realms of collectorship.Keep hold of it, for surely now it is a museum piece. For me,it brings back memories of a simpler time in my life.
I remeber my mum bringing back a brochure from the local BL dealer with the new 1983 Metro range in it, she eventually chose the 1.3 HLE version in Silver Leaf Metallic, funny how you remember these things!! Car rotted like a peach and was scrap in 7 years though!!
The metro especially the MG variant was a cheeky little number that demanded attention.red carpets, alloys and a quality wireless, what more could anyone wish for in a automobile?.
my granddad had a red one when they first came out, I thought it was the biz. red seat belts , red carpets, cool :-) fellow MG drivers flashed in self congratulation! lots of bits broke and it leaked oil...memories!
Its a 1982 and has done 58,000 miles which just about readable in the video. It has no rust to the floors and archs. The front lower valance has some rot which failed yearly MOT test so is currently stored till I weld a new one on. Then it will be back in action. So this example has lasted pretty well.
Cheers for the Comments, yes its one of the very first MG Metro's and until Y reg have the early style stalks you mention. The chrome handles are from a Austin Ambassador and are a straight swap to fit. But I think I might remove them for the original items as I fitted them when I was a teenager into modding etc but now want it factory standard now im a little older :)
I'm quite fond of the early Metros, I only wished they'd seen the sense of connecting the Hydragas units. Just out of curiosity, could the pipes still be retro fitted today?
On the early Metro's like this, the rears are conected. Front's are individaul.
1990 on K-series Metro's are connected front to back so they already have them, no need to retro fit but lots of retro fitting parts like lotus elise engines into 1990 on Metro's happens as its a straight fit with some electric work :D:D Instant 160bhp in some caes.
You must of been unlucky, my 82 one still exists today, bought it was I was 15 in 2000 to rag round my parents field with my pocket money but just left when I passed my test as i couldn't afford to insure a MG! recently got intrested again in it. I think their worst problem is rust which mine has very little of thank god but the rest seems pretty reliable and mega easy to work on.
Ive had 5 of these in my time and none were unreliable, they were all really reliable cars, the only thing was the rust which would kill the car after 7 or 8 years if you were lucky!
Prerequisite of youtube videos: All cars whose dashboards are visible must have little or no fuel in them!

sorry, im new to this metro lark but did they ever do any with 5 gears?
gradicafc 1 year ago
@gradicafc the 1.1 and 1.4 versions can come with 5 gears from 1990 onwards.
Minispares do a 5 speed gearbox for eariler examples if you want to retro fit.

is that a 1300cc MG Metro? My sister had one in silver grey. If I remember correctly, the steering was quite heavy at low speeds! Nice car though...
MrStraight6 1 year ago
@MrStraight6 Hi, thanks, Yes, MG Metro 1300, steering is heavy by todays standards as it doesn't have power steering.

I had 2 Metros in the late 80's. One beige 3 door 1.0L and one red 5 door 1.3L both were very economical on fuel compared to others around then.

i much prefer this early dash to the awful flat and uninteresting one that Roy Axe styled for the 84 model year!

i bought a new MG metro back in 1984.
I was a great car.
had a race with an XR3i and it kept up with it until we got to 100 MPH,but the escort had a more powerful engine.
