I have the same style computer. I was wondering about the sockets myself. I am going to solder two new sockets on and see if it works. Mine is a SR2014HM btw. Have you tried soldering new ones on?
@DarkPrince013 Never tried. This was a customer machine, and I'm not going to risk it screwing something up if it's got chipset/BIOS modifications to not support the extra slots.
And since I don't buy shit like this myself, I don't have a victim one to experiment on. :)
these videos are JUNK! I don't think you get the point with these machines. They are "Buy as they are" and no serious enthusiast would ever even consider them. They are a GREAT solution for sombody who just wants to use them. I build VERY high end systems and actually built a nice PC for my father... BIG mistake... I was the tech support for him and never got a break. I talked him into a HP machine, it came with decent software, had good performance for the time period and HP was his support.
@BikerBry If you don't like them, then don't watch them.
And I do get the point of these machines. To make the manufacturer money.
Memory upgrades are the single most effective way to improve the performance of the vast majority of computers. The extra 25 cents for the two extra memory slots isn't a great price to pay for the flexibility that it offers down the road. The average family user doesn't want to have to buy a new computer when a software update maxes out their memory.
@cbiltcliffe 1. That comment was over a year old. 2. Memory is not a significant performance improvement unless the programming needs it. 3. NOBODY uses the term "Clone" anymore. 4. ASUS is one of the best motherboard Manufacturers on the market today. 5. The sockets weren't "removed", they were never installed. 6. Memory is cheap and finding matching DDR speed, CL and Volts would be difficult or impossible given the age so replacing them completely would be preferred.
Well, in Compaq's like this and eMachines computers, you could always buy a new motherboard. I mean, this computer specifically and others of this style (and a shitload of ones from eMachines) use uATX, a pretty industry standard MB type.
2nd post, a question also... did intel provide heatsinks with a fan for all of their CPU's? my current e8400 had a fan included (well... built-into the heatsink, but now im using a non-reference heatsink fan). If they did include fans... then LOL wow cheaping out and stealin my fan :( . but the funnel thing (in last post) wasnt a makeshift one, im sure it was manufactured and has a hinge so it can turn and be taken off.
Well, I mostly deal with dirty technology companies, as that's the industry I'm in, but I'll do it for anything that ticks me off enough.
But no, Intel didn't provide fans for all CPUs. That setup with Dell is pretty much standard for Dell hardware. Cooling is the one thing they consistently do well, and I'd rather have that design than a lot of others, because it uses a bigger fan that's less likely to break down.
do you post vids on any dirty-playing company? If so, then keep the vids rollin :).
and about the vid, is that legal or illegal to do that?
I have an old dell comp (5'ish years) that hasnt been used in a while, and the weird thing is that its heatsink doesnt have a fan actually ON it. It has a case fan that has a funnel (not a round one) surrounding the heatsink leading to the fan to cool it down... which means it doesnt expel air from the rest of the case.
My whole point is to expose some of the garbage that happens in the industry, especially from the established players - although everybody's fair game, regardless.
nice vid man seen your other vids nice to see some one else notice's this crap in big brand pc's. I have seen lots of crap like this wish I recorded some of the crap I have seen any way keep the vids commin.

Thanks for the information. My poor son checked the slots on crucial and it showed that it had 3 slots yet, when he opened it up, he only found 2.

I just got finished poking around in my HP pavilion a6683w-b, and I noticed the EXACT SAME THING..

Yeah. HP and Compaq are the same company.
Used to be separate, but they merged a few years ago.
Now, Compaq is the low end consumer line, and HP is the higher end, business class stuff.
Nice to see they're pulling the same crap in business class PC's, huh?
