  • Is this "Do it yourself for Dummies", damb i feel stupid!! :(

  • ok i love chevy but they really droped the ball with the design on the headlights.

  • I thought I had a loose bulb in the headlight unit - causing the headlight to shake and flicker everything on the road. Turns out the inside of the headlight where you plug the bulbs in wasn't fully attached to the outer casing of the unit. It's probably cracked so I'm trying to decide weather to buy a whole new unit or try and disassemble the headlight unit and glue it back together.

  • The dealer told me it was common on a Trailblazer to have the plugs that plug into the headlights melt and turn black (both showed combustion). Check your headlight plugs before plugging them in. GM sells pigtails to solder in place of the original plugs but the headlight assembly has to come out first. Headlights $62.00, pigtails $66.00, used grill $105.00...

  • Doesn't work on a 2004 Trailblazer LT. McGrevy is right and my grill broke. Drivers side is easy to reach anyway but airbox blocks access to the passenger side. Sucks!!

  • Perfection! Followed the video step by step and worked like a charm. Thanks for posting!

(BTW -- Taking the grill off, added about 45 seconds to the project, so don't be afraid to take this extra step to make the job much easier)

  • Umm what about he passenger side?

  • What this video DOESN'T tell you is that there are several tabs on the bottom of the grill that need to be popped off too. As a woman, the top tabs took a bit of work, and the bottom tabs were impossible. I finally reached in and got the rubber backing off the light and replaced the light with little or no problem WITHOUT taking the grill off. DIYPV is totally correct. It is NOT necessary to take the grill off. Good job to Chevy for making this so frickin' hard.

  • Great video made the job much easier than it could have been. The grill coming off for the passenger side lights makes all the difference. There are a few more clips to remove the grill. but not a big problem just use the screwdriver to pop them out. Thanks for posting this.

  • Do we need to open the hood first?

  • @MrGrevy wait wait wait... how do I open a "hood"

  • @BulletBlazerSS Maybe Auto Zone has a video for it?

  • No need for all this. Use something small and pointy to pop the rubber cap off of the lamp connection on the back of the headlight. Switch out the lamps, reinstall and replace the rubber cap. You're done in about 3 mins. Couldn't be easier.

  • @wldj4 No room to do that, retard.

  • @MrGrevy F--- you. I changed 2 of them just prior to the original posting.

  • @wldj4 I'll give it a try, but I don't think it will work.

  • @MrGrevy You hadn't even tried before you name called? I suggest you just follow the instructions provided in the video then. You're an ass.

  • @wldj4 How dare you sir? Of course I tried before and there wasn't enough room. You Chevy owners are a blight on the automotive community. I hate that we use them for our company cars.

  • @wldj4 Yeah that way actually does work, at least for the driver side light. Saved some time and plastic clips. No, I didn't change them both at the same time:(

  • @wldj4 thanx for that mate, our drivers light went out and using your way I had the bulb change in under 3 minutes!!

  • Thank You SOOOOOOO uch. . . .perfect example and with it I changed itin like 10 minutes. . . .didn't look like NOOOOOO PPPRoblem. . .Thanks Again

  • Try it without taking the grill off. Didn't crack or damaged the grill. Scratched the heck out of the bumper. Mentioned in an earlier post, there are 7+ tabs, of which the bottom two scratched my bumper.

  • Do not take the grill off!!! Just pop off the battery cover and use a small screw driver to remove the rubber cap behind the light you are changing. twist the light out, plug in a new one and you are done. You will crack your grill if you do it the way in the video.

  • @DIYPV, this guy is 100% right, don't need to take-off grill. It only took me 3 minutes to change both bulbs. Thanks DIYPV !

  • Thanks, what a great help!

  • Thank you very much for the video. I have nearly zero ability to work on a vehicle, but with your video I took my time and worked slowly and it took no longer than 18 minutes. The only advice is to pull the grill off very gently and slowly

  • +1 This helped me a ton. Thanks!

  • Thank you for putting this on you saved me some cash!!

  • There are another 7 clips holding the grill on that aren't mentioned. I cracked the grill trying to gently take it off. After doing all the the bulb doesn't fit. Thanks AutoZone.

  • skip the tree obvious steps 1:10 saved to a minuet of your life

  • thanks a lot, man I was doing everything wrong. Thank you.

  • Thanks for the video! It was awesome and helped a lot!

  • Thanks for posting...very good instructions...i got my headlight changed without problem

  • Thanks for posting this video! I'm sure I could have turned this into a one hour job rather than 10-15 mins, had I not watched this first.

  • Great video! Saved my life ar work. Super like!!!

  • Great video, Thank's went to alot of sites to find out how to do this and nothing really helped till found your video and it only took 10 min. to replace both sides.

    Thank's again

  • Took 10 minutes. Couldn't have done it without this video. Anyone can follow this video. The auto repair shop lists this as a 30 minute repair, which it is not, so don't waste the money.

  • Excellent ! You might add that there are four (4) clips at the top of the grill that have to be compressed and pryed forward. and the outboard headlamp clips are easily pulled upward (released) with an 18" prybar.

    Thanks

  • thank YOU BRO!! a life saver!!

  • GREAT VIDEO man thanks for the help!!!

  • Thank you! It's 17°F outside here and I'm glad I found your video. I probably would have snapped something and spent 10x longer than needed. Thanks again!

  • AWESOME! I can't thank you enough for so kindly taking the time to record this. It took me probably 10min to do the change, but I can imagine it might have taken forever without your tips. The grill came off pretty easy, my biggest problem was the clips that needed to be lifted to releas the headlamp assembly. One came up pretty easy, the other was difficult. Had I not seen the video I might have questioned if that was the correct method. These steps work great, and anyone can do this.

  • There is a much simpler way to do this

without the risk of breaking your grill..

  • @Ardmortician Care to share your wisdom?

  • @danpie02 I tried to post a video response but wasn't able...

What exactly are you trying to do?

  • @Ardmortician Anyways if you go to my channel you will find a detailed video

explaining the steps to changing a headlight on a 04-06 model trailblazer...

  • great video, very helpful. thank you!

  • thanks!

  • thank you for the video very helpful, so I don't have to go to mechanic service :)

  • Fantastic! You saved me a ton of time. I just viewed the other suggestions below regarding removing the battery and/or air cleaner; that may work but following your instructions in this video made it all go very smooth. Thanks for taking the time to post this helpful video.

  • I would have never in a million years would have thought about moving the grill in order to change the bulb, you just made life more easier, thanks for your existence.

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this instructional video for all of us back yard mechanics!!! You made the job easy for me! :)

  • Being a person not handy at all, I just followed exactly the steps in the video and in 10 minutes replaced the light bulb on the passenger side for a 2003 trailblazer. Don't listen to other comments. The steps in the video are really easy and clear. Some comments suggested removing "things" in the back, which block the access to the light bulb. It won't work in my case.Thank you for posting the video. You are wonderful.

  • Just did this job on an 05. DO NOT REMOVE THE GRILL or the entire head light unitl!!! You only need remove the battery or air filter depending on what side you are working on!

  • thanks for sharing helped me out a whole lot

  • I think this is a big waste of time and a risk of breaking expensive grills and emblems. Just reach your hand in there and change it from the back. The cover for the bulb is rubber so it's easy to grip. Takes about 1 minute to change the drivers side.

Passenger side is easy also. Simply remove the air cleaner, this exposes the rubber covers and is easily done. Takes about 5 minutes to do this side. I'd never spend this much time to change a bulb, do it the easy way.

  • @fj4072 - changed my headlight bulb on passenger side just the way you said, it worked perfect-took no more than 5 minutes-thank you so much for the tip

  • @fj4072 I fully agree, I changed my driver side bulb in the Autozone parking lot in like 2 minutes. Got pretty dirty, but thats part of being a man!!

A+ for effort @X04TrailblazerX , but i would rather cut my arm up a little trying to squize it in the access area.

  • @fj4072 Thanks for the information. I contacted my GM dealer before I got on line and they said it would cost $42.00 for labor because they would have to remove the grill, plus the cost of the bulb. I had previously purchased a bulb for about $11.00. No telling what the dealer would have charged. Again, thanks for the info. Charles

  • Worked great, but I broke the front grill in two places trying to pull it off. Be careful pulling the grill off!!!

  • Thank you, I was told it was a pain. I wanted to do it on my own and now I can.

  • If you have big hands and cannot reach into the passenger side head light unit to remove the headlight then this is a great option

  • Just simply remove the air cleaner, much easier and no risk of breaking anything like the grill.

  • thank you i was trying to figure out how to pull the headlamp unit!!

  • This video is awesome. I've had mechanics change my lights 5 times since I got my 04' T.Blazer in NOV....I can change it myself now!!

Why do the freakin' lights go out so frequently?!?

  • because we all made the mistake of buying a trailblazer... we all meaning if your watching this video then you got one lol this is the worst car chevy has made, its got nothing but problems and is constantly haven to be repaired..inside and out..

  • Comment removed

  • @Toasty504 must be the owner, I've had mine for 8 years so far and I've never had an issue!

  • Thank you for posting this! I have an 06 Trailbazer and need to change the driver side low beam. Couldn't figure out how to get the grill off. Will try again tomorrow!

  • GREAT JOB!!
