yeah the first castlevania ever released was in 1986, and i am a real GoW and PoP fan but this was the original and if anything God of War or Prince of Persia stole things from Castlevania. so stfu talking about castlevania stealing stuff from other games, fools.

I hate how this trailer strongly implies that Dracula is the villain in this game. When I first saw this, I was so pumped to see a real sinister Dracula in this new darker and more realistic take on Castlevania. Going to that epic castle and confronting Dracula on his throne? Definitely had potential. And with Jason Isaacs's voice?! That would've been perfect!

This game was epic in all ways, the music, the atmoshere.. everything.. Havent played the god of war and will never play it.. In my opinion, this was an good castlevania going in 3D and yes i loved sotn too and loved it, but it was the end of 2D in someways, people gotta move on =) Come on people, this was an exciting adventure to behold and i want more adventures in 3D, just realize that gaming is going on and on and there is no way we are going backwards, even if you wish it =)
This game had a lot to live up to and for the most part, I think it did. I think the series hit a slump when it just kept producing the 2D SotN Metroidvania style games. I enjoy them but it didn't evolve the series.
This is the first real powerful change to a dusty series since SotN. New score, new storyline, epic landscapes, modern & crisp game play, etc. It has it's problems but a still a wonderful new direction. Looking forward to the DLC and sequel.
yeah, when you see the fighting mechanics you think of god of war... because of the chains and flames and lalala. but what did you want? the main weapon in castlevania is a Whip, a cahin Whip. the flames part comes apart. and when you actually play it you can realise that the gameplay is completely different. this games is mostly like Super Castlevania 4.
Doesn't anyone know that there was a 3D castlevania far BEFORE God of war? or DMC? so God of War cloned castlevania in first place. it was called Castlevania Legacy of Darkness and came out for N64 go check yourself
The Belmonts were the first to use the chained weapons before any of these modern day video game heros. Imo god of war was inspired by the original castlevanias.
However it is another God Of War clone because Devil May Cry never used chain weapons it wasn't until God Of War that chain weapons were entered into Devil May Cry fighting system

Do you really blame them considering that all of the other 3D titles were failures. Sure, Lament of Innocence was good, but it is still something of a flop. They just wanted to make a successful 3D entry. It did copy things from those games, but Lords of Shadow put its own twist into combat.

@extremeloco23 I do agree that it did define the 2d sidescroller, and I love the original. I just don't know how it could have redifined much considering how much of a lack of innovation there is today. To be honest, it did define that these games could be long, considering how short most games are today.

It's not a remake of anything. Just because it has huge bosses like no other doesn't make it a GOW clone. It's simply taking elements from it. And who's to say it's not taking the idea from SotC?

@TheHollywoodV1 In Order of Ecclesia they actually toned down the anime looks. If you liked the games before Dawn of Sorrow better you might wanna give it a go. It is not as good as Aria of Sorrow but I liked it a lot more then Dawn of Sorrow.
@eMoDevil1993 castlevania is a bit like metroid .... they try to bring some good stuffs in our 3d consoles ... but the best one ( cv and metroid) are the 2Ds ...
However, I saw that they brought back the circular whip move where he constantly swings the whip in, well, a circular motion around him to deflect projectiles and even for having that sort of hack and slash feel, the combos shown in here look really sexy imo. Hopefully, they can set this hack and slash style apart the way they did in Lamment of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. To be honest, I still feel good about this game. Konami hasn't let us down so far
I'm not ripping on the game at all, seeing as how I am a Castlevania freak, but I do see much similarity to God of War. Some of the attack styles shown here have that sort of wide-ranged aoe/ish style that Kratos had. I also heard it's taking the "Holy and Unholy" tree styles from Dante's. (need to make another post)
as some people say, just because Castlevania is on 3D doesn't mean that is a copy of god of war or devil may cry. is just Castlevania. when devil may cry first came out, it was like ''oh this new game is like castlevania but it's on 3D'' you know what i mean? devil may cru can be easily a copy of castlevania, but is not, it have its own storyline and gameplay, as do this Castlevania. or what about a castlevania RPG? it would be a copy of final fantasy?
@SktMew I agree. I think they're just adapting it to the modern gameplay. This is where 2d games have gone. Look at Mario, Link, even Sonic has gone 3d. I remember thinking DMC was just Castlevania but 3d, this is just the originals finally adapting their game properly.

@nicholasmc2009 Whoa whoa my son, I beg to differ! I see and understand your issues with the game but I have to say it looks like Castlevania is finally stepping up to modern games. This is just a trailer, but it looks promising and far more interesting than its previous 3d interpetations, which I believe were mere hack and slash adventures like GOW and the like. This looks to have something like the classics combined with modern gameplay. Don't dismiss it by a trailer, hold out hope for it.
@MadMaxe13 I only have a pre conceived problem with this game because I expect much more from the story. If it falls into the pit of focused gameplay that most games have fallen into, then all I can say is that its not my style.
I make the point about Nintendo vs MS and Sony because Sony and MS focus on the visual, sexual, and violent appeal. Nintendo makes their games pure FUN. You can tell by the graphics and gameplay that this game has left its father, Nintendo, and giving up on fun.
@nicholasmc2009 Hadn't thought of it that way. I get what you're saying but remember, way back in the 16 bit days, Castlevania was Nintendo's darkest game. Was it fun? hell yeah! But it carried a lot of those sexual and violent aspects as well (Succubus, murderous creatures roaming the woods). Hell Castlevania 2 scared the crap outta me when I was a kid. The visuals have just advanced. But I agree, this looks like kind of a button masher, I just hope its story stands up.
I'm a bit curious, if it'll be like Castlevania-style gameplay meets Metal Gear-style gameplay. I can't even guess as to what the end result would be, but I hope it's good. I'm surprised at the voice talent lent to this game, I think the story might turn out to be pretty good.

God Of War came out 2005 which was later than Devil May Cry (2001) and the modern 3D Castlevanias (Lament of Innocence, 2003)... so stop saying this is another GOW "clone"

Before you start "pitying" me, learn the difference between "you're" and "your." Also, experiencing something firsthand /is/ the only way to actually /know/ whether something is good or bad, even more so to be able to compare it to another game. Sure, you can make educated guesses if you have enough information (though a trailer like this wouldn't count in that aspect), or as it seems in your case, if the genre of the gameplay suits your personal tastes,
you can usually feel confident that you won't /hate/ the game. But no, you /cannot/ know that this game is good yet, and to say that this game will be /better/ than God of War without even playing it is true ignorance.

I wonder what the exact story is in this game. How will Gabriel tie into the Lords of Shadow. I heard he will become Death. But how so? Anyone have any opinions?
rofl We'll just leave it as "we don't know" for now. They say that this new CV isn't canon, but that doesn't make sense for such a big event and so many big names putting their thumb on it. With Kojima in the ranks, there are always misleadings, usually by his own making. And the fact that Judgment touched on wiping the timeline clean, I think it was a tongue-in-cheek stab at how convoluted and trivial the existing timeline had gotten.
Producers had put out that this is a reboot. And Gabriel's story is very much like a retelling of Leon Belmont's story (the first Belmont to inherit the Alchemy Whip and then, the Vampire Killer). If Gabriel is the ancestor to Leon, this new Crosswhip should've been handed down in a similar fashion as the Killer, it being enough to stop the Vamps shown in the screencaps, assumingly. If this is after Lament, the whip would be Vampire Killer, which it isn't.
i see two logo's that appeared on metal gear solid 4, enough for me. i cant describe in words how epic it looks to me :) always loved castlevania and a 3rd gen has been a long time coming
They should have drew from Curse of Darkness and Symphony of the Night instead of trying to make another generic action/adventure which Castlevania is too good for.
But his influence in Castlevania? There are some aspects of this that are worrysome. A Spanish composer for the music instead of a Japanese composer. The graphics are too Western. A shift away from vampire hunting? The main character looks like a boxer instead of a badass Belmont. Weapon customization has been removed. Looks to be another stupid Assassins Creed, God of War, or Prince of Persia game...How dissapointing!
1: The soundtrack is epic and awesome, not generic FF chanting like most Japanese compositions.
2: The Graphics and design are western because Castlevania is set in a western style fantasy world.
3: did you see what the Animu designers did to Belmont... DID YOU, he looks like a generic leather wearing bondage freak. take a look at the cover for Castlevania Judgement.
Um there was no weapon customizing in CV1 - CV:SotN. SotN had equipment changes, but you can only really customize weapons in CV:Circle of the Moon and Curse of Darkness.
Gabriel looks more like the original Simon and Trevor than any of the characters we've had lately.
Learn your history and learn about more games than fucking GoW before you start complaining.
How surprising to think that this is a Japanese made game. It's good to see the shift of graphics from anime looking to western looking. I shall add this to my collection later.
Yeah i know, but doesn't mean the main character in each Kojima game has to look like Snake (not that it's a bad thing). I actually did some research more on the game and even though Kojima is playing little part of the development, he had an influence on what Gabriel's appearance would look like.
This seems to confirm that Gabriel is indeed a Belmont. Also, anyone notice how huge Gabriel is? XD Look at him in comparison to the peasant. I know the Belmonts are supposed to be nigh super-human, but damn. That really makes it hit home.

@TheHollywoodV1 In Order of Ecclesia they actually toned down the anime looks. If you liked the games before Dawn of Sorrow better you might wanna give it a go. It is not as good as Aria of Sorrow but I liked it a lot more then Dawn of Sorrow.

However, I saw that they brought back the circular whip move where he constantly swings the whip in, well, a circular motion around him to deflect projectiles and even for having that sort of hack and slash feel, the combos shown in here look really sexy imo. Hopefully, they can set this hack and slash style apart the way they did in Lamment of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. To be honest, I still feel good about this game. Konami hasn't let us down so far

I'm not ripping on the game at all, seeing as how I am a Castlevania freak, but I do see much similarity to God of War. Some of the attack styles shown here have that sort of wide-ranged aoe/ish style that Kratos had. I also heard it's taking the "Holy and Unholy" tree styles from Dante's. (need to make another post)

as some people say, just because Castlevania is on 3D doesn't mean that is a copy of god of war or devil may cry. is just Castlevania. when devil may cry first came out, it was like ''oh this new game is like castlevania but it's on 3D'' you know what i mean? devil may cru can be easily a copy of castlevania, but is not, it have its own storyline and gameplay, as do this Castlevania. or what about a castlevania RPG? it would be a copy of final fantasy?

@SktMew I agree. I think they're just adapting it to the modern gameplay. This is where 2d games have gone. Look at Mario, Link, even Sonic has gone 3d. I remember thinking DMC was just Castlevania but 3d, this is just the originals finally adapting their game properly.

I wish the protagonist would be a little more realistic than this.. and I don't want to throw more sand your bikinis, but this game is like God of War. I love Castlevania's past, not the new hack and slash bull crap that seems to be all the rage in adventure games. This style transfer is very relevant in the way the game has moved from Nintendo onto PS3 and Xbox. looks like the only REAL FUN adventure franchise remaining is Zelda. I have deep sorrow for this cheap move onto fun killing systems.

@nicholasmc2009 Whoa whoa my son, I beg to differ! I see and understand your issues with the game but I have to say it looks like Castlevania is finally stepping up to modern games. This is just a trailer, but it looks promising and far more interesting than its previous 3d interpetations, which I believe were mere hack and slash adventures like GOW and the like. This looks to have something like the classics combined with modern gameplay. Don't dismiss it by a trailer, hold out hope for it.

@MadMaxe13 I only have a pre conceived problem with this game because I expect much more from the story. If it falls into the pit of focused gameplay that most games have fallen into, then all I can say is that its not my style.
I make the point about Nintendo vs MS and Sony because Sony and MS focus on the visual, sexual, and violent appeal. Nintendo makes their games pure FUN. You can tell by the graphics and gameplay that this game has left its father, Nintendo, and giving up on fun.

@nicholasmc2009 Hadn't thought of it that way. I get what you're saying but remember, way back in the 16 bit days, Castlevania was Nintendo's darkest game. Was it fun? hell yeah! But it carried a lot of those sexual and violent aspects as well (Succubus, murderous creatures roaming the woods). Hell Castlevania 2 scared the crap outta me when I was a kid. The visuals have just advanced. But I agree, this looks like kind of a button masher, I just hope its story stands up.

I'm a bit curious, if it'll be like Castlevania-style gameplay meets Metal Gear-style gameplay. I can't even guess as to what the end result would be, but I hope it's good. I'm surprised at the voice talent lent to this game, I think the story might turn out to be pretty good.

Before you start "pitying" me, learn the difference between "you're" and "your." Also, experiencing something firsthand /is/ the only way to actually /know/ whether something is good or bad, even more so to be able to compare it to another game. I mean it kinda depends on what type of game it is one is talking about, sure in this case it's kind of hard to tell, but if we're talking about a sequel then it's another story.I'm a big fan of halo you see and even though I haven't played reach yet I still know that it's gonna be awesome.

(Last one, for real) However, the game could end up buggy, maybe the level design will be uninspired, perhaps combat won't be polished well enough; there are all kinds of possibilities that could hamper the quality of any game that one can't see until it's in their hands. It's certainly happened before; just look at Sonic the Hedgehog 06.

okay, thats it, im buying this game when it comes out. although i do think they could make Gabriels character model a little better by making his shoulders a little smaller, and not making his pauldrons so plain looking i still have a lot of confidence in this game from what ive seen so far. but at the same time im kindof skeptical, lets hope that they pull this one off.

rofl We'll just leave it as "we don't know" for now. They say that this new CV isn't canon, but that doesn't make sense for such a big event and so many big names putting their thumb on it. With Kojima in the ranks, there are always misleadings, usually by his own making. And the fact that Judgment touched on wiping the timeline clean, I think it was a tongue-in-cheek stab at how convoluted and trivial the existing timeline had gotten.

Producers had put out that this is a reboot. And Gabriel's story is very much like a retelling of Leon Belmont's story (the first Belmont to inherit the Alchemy Whip and then, the Vampire Killer). If Gabriel is the ancestor to Leon, this new Crosswhip should've been handed down in a similar fashion as the Killer, it being enough to stop the Vamps shown in the screencaps, assumingly. If this is after Lament, the whip would be Vampire Killer, which it isn't.

One of my least favorite games in the series.
The only redeeming factor for that game was Sarah's soul being used to embue the Alchemy whip with powers to make it the Vampire Killer.

I love the Metal Gear series.
But his influence in Castlevania? There are some aspects of this that are worrysome. A Spanish composer for the music instead of a Japanese composer. The graphics are too Western. A shift away from vampire hunting? The main character looks like a boxer instead of a badass Belmont. Weapon customization has been removed. Looks to be another stupid Assassins Creed, God of War, or Prince of Persia game...How dissapointing!

1: The soundtrack is epic and awesome, not generic FF chanting like most Japanese compositions.
2: The Graphics and design are western because Castlevania is set in a western style fantasy world.
3: did you see what the Animu designers did to Belmont... DID YOU, he looks like a generic leather wearing bondage freak. take a look at the cover for Castlevania Judgement.

Um there was no weapon customizing in CV1 - CV:SotN. SotN had equipment changes, but you can only really customize weapons in CV:Circle of the Moon and Curse of Darkness.
Gabriel looks more like the original Simon and Trevor than any of the characters we've had lately.
Learn your history and learn about more games than fucking GoW before you start complaining.

Yeah i know, but doesn't mean the main character in each Kojima game has to look like Snake (not that it's a bad thing). I actually did some research more on the game and even though Kojima is playing little part of the development, he had an influence on what Gabriel's appearance would look like.

This seems to confirm that Gabriel is indeed a Belmont. Also, anyone notice how huge Gabriel is? XD Look at him in comparison to the peasant. I know the Belmonts are supposed to be nigh super-human, but damn. That really makes it hit home.
