I understand the whole blw concept.. but, Aren't u still supposed to only introduce one food everything 3-4 days incase of allergy or allergies don't matter to you guys? Instead you introduced 3-4 new things each day, so if an allergy ever presented, you would have never known what caused it.
You don't feed the rest to him. He's in total control over what he eats. There's a saying "Food is for fun until the age of one". He should be getting all he needs from breastmilk or formula. Food is just an add-on. If he doesn't eat anything, he doesn't eat anything. No harm done.
Hello, Great Video! We just started our son on solids this way a week and a half ago at 6 months but he's not great at getting it to his mouth without smushing it into oblivion and then gets very frustrated that he can't pick it up. At that point i feed the rest to him mushed up on my fingers. Should i just switch to mash for a while?
Great video! What a gorgeous baby girl! My LO is almost 5 mths old, so I'm going to wait a few more weeks before we start BLW with her. Can't wait :-)
@lovelyamethystangel Yes most of it is either steamed or roasted, the veges that is, the fruit was raw. The skin can make it easier for them to hold it, it holds it together a bit rather than it just turning to mush in their hand.
Thank you for the nice video, I have 5 and ahalf month baby and want to start solids soon. But can I ask you about the fruit and the veges, do you steam or boil them? or all of them raw? like the carrot and the apple and other food, and I noticed that you didn't peel the food. Thank you so much.
@drybasil Hey there, awesome that you are about to start solids, I hope Baby Led Weaning works well for you guys! The vege was either steamed or roasted (sweet potato, squash, and potato), the fruit was raw, the apple was lightly steamed. We used Organic food, so other than a wash there was no need to peel it. Also the skin helps them hold it and keeps it together too. Like with the banana it made it easier to grip with the skin on, without it would just be slipping everywhere. Enjoy, have fun!
Can you email me some more info on baby led weaning?! How did you cook the foods. How old was your baby when you started?? email is shepherd.adrianne@ gmail. com

You're baby is super cute! BTW: Love the music in the background. My wife told me about BLW the other day, and I decided to research it on YouTube. Do you have any advice for us? Our daughter is about 4 1/2 months old!
@TheFunnyrats Great! Hope you have fun with it, it is such an awesome way to wean! It is recommended to wait until 6 months, as their digestive system is not properly mature until around then. But check out the baby led weaning website, the forum there is really good, if you feel your baby is ready earlier than 6 months, there will be some good info about that there. Enjoy it all, and be relaxed about it too, and of course film it so we can see how it goes!
@Anglynn74 yes that is a common concern, but babies have this amazing reflex called the gag reflex, which is a very efficient and safe way of returning food that is too big. Also (as seen above) if they have a piece that they can't chew then they most often spit it out. Google will give you plenty of info to reassure any fears about choking hazards. It can be scary the first few times you see your baby gag, and it indeed looks like choking, but most of the time they can deal with it themselves.
@cast0r aw thank you! She is now 2 and has her "not so cute" days! But she only has to look at me with her big blue eyes and all uncuteness is forgotten!
I loved the leaving most of the banana peal on. What a good idea. Our daughter mostly mashes the banana and can't get a grip. Going to give that a try.

@evabobeva - we got the bibs from a few places, Mothercare (UK), but also the Silly Billyz brand are really good, bit more expensive, but 18months later they are the only ones that are still looking good (not stained and plastic ripped and falling apart, so well worth the money!)

About to start my baby on solids and this video has helped me to better understand/visualize baby led weaning. It appears far more simple and intuitive than the puree approach I took two years ago. I'm going to give it a go! Thank you!!
This is such an awesomely done video! Thank you for sharing! I'm just about to start my babe on solids. You made it really easy to understand the process! Love the kicky feed!
this is so encouraging!! we started baby led weaning last week and i was so worried baby wasn't getting enough food. she is 26 weeks and i have been breastfeeding exclusively up till now. can i ask what do you give your baby for breakfast, how do you get on with the foods which are naturally sloppy, and how many milk feeds does your little one have??? sorry for so many questions!!!
@landsbuzzcott Sorry for the delay in replying, we have been travelling far from cyberspace! Baby is now 17 months and the greatest eater ever! She eats what we eat, be it curry or olives! When she was 6 months she was exclusively breastfeed too, always has been, and still is, i kept all feeds the same, but cut her night feeds once she was eating. For breakfast we did porridge, not too sloppy so she could pick it up, we were pretty relaxed about mess. I hope you guys are having fun with it!!!
@KittyCartier Hey there, her bracelet was just one of her dad's chains that we cut to fit, sorry I don't suppose thats very helpful. Hope your baby is loving the whole food experience!
@riefand We started at 6 months, sorry to hear your baby is gagging a bit, that can happen if they have a sensitive gag reflex, i hope its getting better, great that she is enjoying it tho!
angelsterh, with baby led weaning breastmilk is meant to be given first and the solids are just a top up because BM is the most nutritious and important food. One of the motto's is "food is for fun until you're one", so parents needn't stress if a lot of the food isn't eaten but just explored.
When i started solids w/ my child, i made all her baby food, which was EVERYTHING i ate (which is healthy food and all different food groups), just pureed or smashed down enough for it to be easy for her to gum (didn't have teeth till about 8 mo).

Great video - thanks. My little girl now 6 1/2 month just doesn't want any food at all - we started 7 weeks ago (its common to start at 41/2 month in Australia) and it's so despressing - nothing. The bowls are all still full when I go back into the kitchen. I've started the BLW - been giving her banana, steamed carrot and steamed pumpkin - nothing yet but will continue - ho hum.

Absolutely brilliant - my daughter is nearly 7 months and has refused spoon feeding from the start - I went to a BWL class on Wednesday and have only used finger foods since (it's Fri today) - so far I have tried carrots, broccoli, toast, banana and she stole a chip from my plate yesterday!!
