Is your final score at the end affected by the difficulty you play on? I won a Cultural with Sitting Bull on Warlord and still got Dan Quayle. Was kind of pissed.
It was awesome. I watched all the videos and enjoyed them. Will watch more of what you got, too. Greetings from me and thanks for all the hard work, TheMeInTeam.
Once I was playing this game on the lowest difficulty, I attacked a town with 4 spearmen and a horse archer vs 1 ARCHER! and I lost the battle! Then I just said "Well fuck this bullshit" and went to play Civ Rev. XD
I guess you’ve played a lot, easily way more than I have. Does the number of computer opponents and the size and shape of the map affect the length much? I prefer playing against the maximum number of AI opponents, on an Earth-size map.
I watched the whole thing also . Today I practiced some of the things I've learned from ur videos . Even tho I'm playing on easy level I finally managed to go on war and beat a civ . Thanks
i never can make friends on this game, i am too war oriented, no matter how i try i end up winning by killing everyone else or losing same way....oh well
I was playing Beyond the Sword when WW 1 broke out on 1853 AD, it started with France declaring war on me, and then I told all my friends to attack France, so he got all his friends, and attacked us. We lost, and I retreated to an island, along with Germany and China.. then they attacked us with airstrikes and battleships until we we're defeated.
Nice vid; I always win by diplomatic or cultural, ive tried domination but most of the time my people would die attacking a colony while the other nation sends the same bunch of troops and takes my capitol or something dumb like that but im a good with the tech tree; ive had the internet around 1700ad before
Heh, if only it were so simple. The game has a lot of depth and to be good at it you have to have some ability to plan coupled with knowledge of the game mechanics and what options give you the highest returns. Civfanatics forums has helped a lot of people attain high levels, so if watching the videos is not enough, check that out too.
nice videos, i watched the 1st one bcos i was interested in buying this game but i ended up watching all videos (from 1-18) which is a testament to urself and the game
Just lost a game on Noble as Ghandi, going for a cultural victory. It was going so well, then Montezuma and his vassal Hatshepsut declared on me for no reason, when I was at least +7 with him. I knew Monty was a dick, but I never realised how bad :(
He won't declare @ friendly (+11), but getting him there before a dow is a little iffy...
Actually, no AI plots war at friendly. Catherine is unique in that she will take bribes against civs with which she is friendly, but of course she also must be friendly towards the briber.
AIs that care very little about religion and have later favorite civics are the worst (shaka, toku, genghis, alex to a lesser extent).
thanks for the great vid. Maybe you'd wan to try that 'terra' map-style where the world looks a lot like the Earth and everyone starts in the New World. That would have to involve some crazy colonization racing. that would be cool. I would also like to see a world domination via conquest win, because war is fun.
THANKS for sharing, but i'd like to see how you are with a earth shaped normal size map with 12 civs including you. though i know it was informative, thanks again... i play civ iv almost every evening on week day, so great,
I have a question that you said you were going to answer, but you never really got around to it. How do you decide if a certain city is a commerce, hammers, or food city?
I always find diplomatic victories so lame because you can just butter up your rivals to vote for you. The AI usually don't go for that type of victory anyways, so I don't feel right using it against them.
Great videos, helpful and funny. I would like to see how you go about industrial and later warfare, with massive navies and airforces. An archipelago map maybe, they are ftw.
Thanks a lot for making this walkthrough. I really enjoyed it and you made it all look so easy. I'm very impressed with how fast you made a lot of decisions.
That was cool btw, interesting you went UN victory rather than just conquer everyone. I prefer games where people use every situation to their advantage to win rather than just deciding before hand how they want to win. You pulled this win off nicely and I learned a lot too. Thanks :)
Some players who go more heavily on the specialists get city sizes at or near 40.
Yes, enough #s will eventually win, but you do have hammer limitations in terms of how many troops you produce. To kill large numbers of opposing troops efficiently, you want siege since it damages multiple units per attack. Using siege it's normal to beat a stack of 80 units with 60, assuming your siege hits them with collateral first and you kill off 40+ units before they even attack. Siege initiative.
great game! my difficulty is prince and i've won it a couple of times but the normalized score is 15k (conquest) or 10k (space race)! why am i getting such low score? the year counts that much? (1979)
Yeah I still need to work on the sound. I think it's a limitation of my mic ----> believe me I wasn't whispering. I'll see what I can do for the next one, which should be coming up soon.
Youve educated really well while you played so Im thankful for that, only thing that bugged me through this whole lp, is how you whispered in to the mick. I had to put all of my voices full to hear what you where saying, so might want to take a look in that. im not sure if you noticed yourself but there was a lot of background sounds too, most likely coming out of your computer, but its really hard to take those voices out, but can always try to develop.
I'm not running deity until I get better on immortal ;). My next game will likely be one from civfanatics forums, so it will likely be a custom scenario.
I cleared my cache so I can keep leaders random. Or, if I do a forum game, it will be a scenario and I won't know who I'm fighting.
That said, IMO this game had a pretty good/realistic mix, in fact maybe a bit on the hard side ;).
The starting save is available on civfanatics forums if you want to try this one.
Would it be out of the question to do a 'Play Now' scenario rather than a custom game? If you kick it to a harder setting, it might be bit of a pain, and there would be the random events, wich you dont like, to consider, but it would let the wiever to know better where to focus. Also, a Deity game on a duel map would be very intriguing to see, hmmm?...

Since Jan. 2008. When this video was made that was only about a year. Now in more recent videos I am of course much better at the game.

@DNOMYTE Yes, there is a .2 modifier in either direction from 1.0 at noble for score. You also get more points for finishing sooner.

There's no real satisfaction winning Diplomatic though

I completely disagree
diplomatic victories require more strategic planning than a conquest or space race victory, and are usually pretty rare.
For those reasons alone, diplomatic victory is satisfying

Do a game with the maximum number of civilizations possible on continents, preferrably no bigger than large map. Ought to see some blood fly there.
That aside, though, an enjoyable and educative playthrough. Thanks.

The biggest factors in score are population, land, and finish date by far. Other things matter, but far less so.
Domination on marathon where you abuse sid's sushi or possibly cereal mills to "milk" the score seems to be the consensus method of high scores.
Somebody got over 1 million in a legit game...my record is a little under 300k.
