If they want to do this for real, they're going to have to regulate the hell out of it in order to keep their economy under control. I mean, every game has a different value for their currency, such as in eve where a single player can earn billions of isk compared to world of tanks where you don't need that sort of money. I mean, it would be great to do that but if it's not done exactly right it could spell disaster for their country.
I don't understand, how can virtual currency have a value at all? Unless the game is based on real life currency. What makes it have value? You aren't doing a service for anyone but yourself, with money that is nothing but text..
Theres a lot of legal issues to think about, being a game developer this really affects me. Does that count for say any game or just online games would it count for say diablo?
And since I use bots quite a lot.. would that become a irl crime? I don't think it would be anymore a crime than using a robot in an assembly line. both make you money with the cost of a bit of electricity :) Although one might get you banned in-game :)
Well it would be good and bad if virtual currencies were convertible everywhere. me.. as the average gamer.. for me it would make my countless hours spent on mmo's more valuable. and encourage me to spend more knowing it's not a 100% waste of my time. but it wouldn't stay that way for long... Gold farmers would quickly ruin everything in every game. they would make every in-game currency worthless with excessive farming.. not that they don't already.. but I think there would be more of them...
Not many games on the market yet to really get a scare over it, yet...Doubt blizzard will be involved at all, now company's like NDoors inc, will be hard pressed to develop games And so will Cryptic studios the maker of Star trek, it will seem to benefit the MMO community at first, but in the long run it's who can pump out the most games to make that money. Will also encourage game company to make better anti-botting programs or be forced to hire more GMs....we will see
this is just the governement trying to capitalize.
simply put...the goverment wants their hands in everyhting. Virtual goods is a HUGE business and what more does the goverment want than to get a piece of it.
Wait, you think that the only reason the Korean government made the decision that they did was because of the money it would bring in, and then you think the US government wouldn't?
I was just fairly surprised someone thinks that the Korean government made this decision purely because of the financial benefits, and then thinks that the US government is above such things.
It doesnt surprise me that Korea would make such a move.
But the numbers cannot be ignored. If they are generating that many conversions, virtual to real currency then hell ya, they will want a piece of the action/ I.E. taxs :D
I have been playing FFXI for over 5 years now and this is HORRIBLE.. lol its already a big mess with in games advertising for currency and character theft.. this is just TOO much hahaha great video my friend
Crazy. Wonder how long it will be before that hits North America and the rest of the world. Here's a question as well. Do the game companies have to pay you out for your in game currency whenever you want?
that is Crazy people could sell extreme amount of gold for money and whats even worse is gold farmers wouldn't need you to by they're gold any more they could sell it to the company so its scary and cool indeed

There's going to be alot of new lawsuits with all these mmo companies, and fortunately for those Korean mmo developers they get a free lunch.

How would this work wouldn't the taxing of it make it traceable? thus making it easier to ban people who are selling virtual goods

i wonder what would happen to someone who was caught boting.
DIABOLI999666 2 years ago
Obviously this is just the government being greedy and taxing a billion dollar industry without thinking through the repercussions.
Same has been discussed in the US and it will likely happen in some form there too.
